Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 537: Streaming Debut Data Shines

Of course, the plot of Record of Chasing the Wind couldnʼt possibly move forward that quickly in reality, otherwise Song Chenye really could wipe out all his enemies in one go.

So while investigating his enemies, Song Chenye gradually meets many people; besides killing for revenge, he never forgets to help the weak, assist in solving martial world cold cases, distinguish right from wrong, and stay true to his principles.

The subsequent plot not only introduces the main characters who will appear later, it also deepens the portrayal of Song Chenye, strengthening the audienceʼs impression of him.

You could say Song Chenye is a very pure knight-errant: burdened by blood-deep hatred, yet not cynical. He shows no mercy to enemies and villains, executing justice decisively, while toward the weak and the good he offers kindness and proactively lends a hand.

And he is not foolish; he can clearly discern right from wrong and make sound judgments. Even when faced with danger, he can defend and suppress with force.

This is truly an old-school, extremely orthodox, quintessentially wuxia, even somewhat rigid, righteous male lead.

Long ago, a protagonist like this would have been criticized as a sanctimonious father figure, slammed by viewers for being ”too soft-hearted” or a ”hypocritical goody-two-shoes.”

But surprisingly, audiences did not resent Song Chenye’s actions; instead, they were hooked—

On the night Record of Chasing the Wind premiered, every metric looked brilliant. Even the aloof Channel Eight account reposted the official premiere announcement for Record of Chasing the Wind and offered congratulations.
While Banana Video was riding a wave of popularity, Record of Chasing the Wind aired simultaneously on Channel Eight’s prime time slot, immediately breaking the two-point mark in ratings and setting a new premiere record for Channel Eight’s historical dramas.

After the latest episode aired, topics related to Record of Chasing the Wind kept refreshing, and thanks to its strong early episodes, it successfully attracted a large audience to tune in.

On major marketing strongholds, the conversation had erupted into a lively frenzy.

A blogger who had been ready to camp out and criticize the work, planning to post a hit piece to siphon off Xiao Heʼs traffic, watched the episode and silently deleted the negative draft to safeguard his account. He reposted the premiere promo for Record of Chasing the Wind and captioned it: [Recommended, worth watching, will keep following, updates tomorrow.]

This was right at the natural time when the episode finished airing. Normally, this time window is the main battleground for marketing accounts and fast-paced roasting bloggers, and it’s the earliest concentrated upload period for derivative videos.

Those accounts usually edit while watching, or even prepare outlines and templates in advance. With short recaps and highlight remix clips, they scramble to grab platform recommendation traffic, specifically targeting viewers who had just finished the first episode and wanted more, as well as casual onlookers who hadnʼt started watching yet.

His post quickly drew other viewersʼ attention, and soon laughing comments spread everywhere.

[Poisonous, you’ve changed. I thought you’d always be harsh on every traffic drama.]

[Xiao He counts as a skilled actor, right? Not exactly a traffic star.]

[Wow, makes sense. I can recommend it to my friend who dislikes traffic dramas.]

[So is Record of Chasing the Wind good? Any pure outsiders share opinions?]

[Pure outsider here, strongly recommend Record of Chasing the Wind! Super good.]

[Indeed pretty good, worth a watch.]

[Not sure whether Record of Chasing the Wind is good? Open your Moments; netizens might lie to you, but older relativesʼ posts never do.]

[Hahaha, really. My mom posted on Moments to recommend it right away, I almost died laughing. Didn’t expect her to be this enthusiastic.]

[I told you, Xiao He is a little box suitable for all ages. dog head emoji]

Xiao He had recently received an award, and with Record of Chasing the Wind being aggressively marketed almost in a bundling fashion, many casual viewers gave positive reviews. Meanwhile, the more professional Little Box fans had already started producing derivative content and scoring the show, doing data work everywhere for Xiao He.

Although Xiao He’s current situation, as netizens joked, didnʼt rely on traffic, lacking traffic was still absolutely disastrous—

At two in the morning, Xiao He officially landed in Shanghai.

Sitting in the car, he reopened his phone, contentedly scrolling through netizens’ comments, and set a scheduled Weibo post for the next morning to announce that Super Spacetime Confrontation would start filming the day after tomorrow.

Yes, while many people still focused on Record of Chasing the Wind, the start date for Super Spacetime Confrontation was set for August 10, which is the day after tomorrow—or rather, since it was already past midnight, technically tomorrow.

Xiao He would still take part in some of Record of Chasing the Wind’s promotional activities, but they couldnʼt slack on Super Spacetime Confrontation; filming had to begin as soon as possible.

Xiao Chen, sitting in the car, reiterated the upcoming schedule to Xiao He: ”Next, Brother Xiaoʼs main task is to join the crew. Record of Chasing the Wind might have a few live streams later; Brother Xiao may need to prepare in advance.”

These live streams had different natures: one was a private account stream where some actors would link up with their own accounts to give fans and drama buffs special content; another was a platform-organized Banana Video stream, broadcast live from the set on the platform’s official account, aimed not only at fans and drama lovers but also at attracting platform users and casual viewers to boost interest in Record of Chasing the Wind.

The final live stream would be sponsor-oriented, somewhat like a product-pushing event, again feeling like an old friends’ talk where more advertisers and brand partners would be invited—another form of promotion to secure more sponsors for Record of Chasing the Wind...

Each live stream served its own purpose. As the main male lead, Xiao He naturally couldnʼt miss them, so when both sides required him, he had no choice but to attend both.

However, Liu Rulan still hadnʼt returned to Shanghai with Xiao He this time.

She remained in Beijing.

Xiao He was now entirely capable of handling things on his own and no longer needed Liu Rulan to follow him at all times. So Liu Rulan needed to continue using her top-tier agent skills elsewhere to secure more opportunities for him.

Xiao Chen, who had taken over Xiao Heʼs daily affairs, dutifully ran through the itinerary once more.

Xiao He reviewed it mentally, then nodded: ”Go straight to the filming base. We wonʼt return to the company today.”

They had already slept two hours on the plane; going directly to the base now would allow them an extra day to rest without detouring back to Linghui Entertainment.

”Okay.”

Lao Qi immediately turned the car toward the filming base.

What Xiao He didnʼt know was that earlier this morning, an unexpected visitor had arrived at Linghui Entertainment’s entrance.

”Hello, could you tell me if Manager Liu is back?”

A man wearing a mask stood at the entrance with a complicated expression for a long time. At last he seemed to muster the courage to approach the front desk and ask.

The receptionist eyed him warily but remained polite. She checked the visitor list in her hand and shook her head: ”Sorry, Manager Liu hasnʼt been in Shanghai recently.”

”Oh...”

He murmured in disappointment.

”Would you like me to make an appointment for you? Or you can tell me your business; I can find someone else to assist.”

”No, thatʼs fine.”

Tong Junhui shook his head, then turned and left.
