Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 487: Xiao He’s Biggest Network of the Semester

Office.

After sitting down, Yuan Ling first took a sip of tea from the cup on the table, moistening his throat that had become dry from teaching. Only then did he speak to the person before him, ”You brat, you never contact me when thereʼs nothing going on. The moment something happens, you pop up out of nowhere.”

Xiao He chuckled, ”Isnʼt that because Iʼm intimidated by your imposing presence, Old Yuan? I usually donʼt dare to bother you.”

Yuan Ling shot Xiao He a sidelong glance, feeling both fondness and frustration towards this student who had decent ability but had instead plunged headfirst into the entertainment industry.

Yuan Ling was Xiao Heʼs professional course teacher, usually responsible for computer-related classes. However, because he taught many different classes normally and his work within the entire department was quite varied, even after teaching for over three years, he was at most familiar with the faces of students in his class, not quite at the level of knowing each one individually.

Yet, Xiao He and his group were different.

After all, Xiao Heʼs dormitory once had all its members oversleep, causing them to miss Yuan Lingʼs morning class.

Yuan Ling was notoriously strict, basically taking attendance every single class. Other students in the class didnʼt dare skip his lessons.

Only that day, the entire class secretly called and messaged the dormitory guys, trying to wake up the sleeping quartet. Meanwhile, Yuan Ling on the podium had already started drawing ”death red circles” on the attendance list.

Of course, the final outcome wasnʼt too bad. Although Yuan Ling had specifically emphasized before class not to be late, leave early, or skip class—otherwise face disciplinary reports and failing grades—Xiao He and the others sincerely apologized to Yuan Ling and wrote a letter of commitment by hand. The matter was then let go by Yuan Ling, who didnʼt pursue any further punishment.
But Xiao Heʼs dormitory of four was thoroughly remembered by Yuan Ling. Basically, every class, he would find different ways to call on them and ask questions.

Fortunately, if such a situation happened to just one person, it might be somewhat awkward and embarrassing. But if good buddies encounter it together, itʼs just brothers in misery holding hands.

I donʼt know this question? But my buddy definitely does! Let him answer.

He doesnʼt know either? Then letʼs stand in a row together.

Anyway, the guys were thick-skinned, didnʼt hold grudges, studied quite well, respected teachers and valued education in class, and could also chat casually with Yuan Ling after class. So, back and forth, they actually became quite familiar.

It was only later, from other students, that Yuan Ling learned that Xiao Heʼs dormitory of four were somewhat prominent figures in their class.

Xiao He was somewhat handsome, Zhai Zhipeng had a bit of money, He Junhao was a Bilibili content creator, and Dai Bo was the top student class monitor who got scholarships every year.

Later, when their graduating class scattered to the winds, Yuan Ling learned that Xiao He had entered the entertainment industry and wasnʼt the least bit surprised.

The employment pressure these days is immense, and every student has different possible paths.

Moreover, this brat Xiao He really did look passably good. Trying his luck in the entertainment industry was quite fitting.

What really gave Yuan Ling a fright was when Xiao He later suddenly produced some software programs and code.

”You really bring me a surprise every time you come.”

Yuan Ling shook his head helplessly, ”The few connections I have, youʼve dug them all up.”

Xiao He let out a long sigh and decisively played the sympathy card, ”Teacher Yuan, our production team this time is really poor. We donʼt have that much money to hire foreign teams for special effects. So, after going around in circles, only Iʼm left to do it.”

Yuan Ling wore an expression of disbelief, ”Iʼve never seen a production team so poor they make their own actor do the special effects.”

Xiao He spread his hands, ”Well, now youʼve seen one. Yours truly, the unworthy one, is right here.”

Yuan Ling: ...

Yuan Ling looked at Xiao He with a complicated expression, ultimately saying nothing. He picked up his phone and forwarded the contact information to Xiao He.

”Let me make this clear first. Their team worked for foreign companies a few years back. Itʼs just that the pressure has been high these past few years, so they returned to China. Theyʼre teaching in our department now, but theyʼre usually not on campus. Recently, it seems theyʼre abroad participating in competitions. If you want to ask for their help, it definitely wonʼt be easy. Iʼm only responsible for giving you the contact. The rest is up to you.”

”Got it, thanks, Old Yuan.”

Xiao He immediately saved the contact information into his own address book.

Prestigious universities naturally have their advantages. Although a core course teacher might just be a teacher within the school, their achievements and connections outside the university are completely incomparable to those of teachers from ordinary schools. The fact that Yuan Ling could serve as a senior teacher for the computing major at Hu University was enough to prove his outstanding ability and solid backing.

Previously, those hard-to-sell firewall system codes of Xiao Heʼs were successfully sold at a high price because Yuan Ling helped connect him with a professor and then facilitated contact with a company. And now, the suitable candidate that even Xiao He and his team might not necessarily be able to find was also within Yuan Lingʼs network.

—This was precisely why Xiao He absolutely had to come back in person.

Yuan Ling was the biggest connection he could access during his university years!

If he hadnʼt accidentally stepped into the entertainment industry back then, Xiao He might have been able to do quite well by clinging to this personʼs coattails. After all, his former roommate Dai Boʼs current graduate supervisor was Yuan Ling.

Advance could lead to graduate studies, retreat could lead to internships or jobs at major tech companies. This career path planning was still quite clear.

It just wasnʼt used, thatʼs all.

”Lately, youʼve just been thinking about researching special effects production?”

Only after Xiao He saved the contact did Yuan Ling ask about Xiao Heʼs professional matters.

Perhaps due to the teacherʼs inherent professional habit, when Yuan Ling chatted, he couldnʼt help but care about Xiao Heʼs development in the computer field from a teacherʼs perspective.

Xiao He immediately scratched his head somewhat awkwardly, ”Uh, Teacher Yuan, Iʼve been too busy recently, havenʼt really studied these things much.”

He only tinkered with code when he needed it. If not needed, Xiao He basically didnʼt touch it at all now and hadnʼt made money by ”selling software” for a long time.

—Because he was just too busy, with too many things to learn and do. For a skill he had already mastered instantly, Xiao He had instead become less attentive to it. Plus, Linghui Entertainment was already on track. The money that could be made in the entertainment industry really came much faster and more intensely than him painstakingly coding software, so...

People are perhaps like this sometimes; they donʼt cherish what they have after obtaining it.

Xiao He was an ordinary person, and naturally, he was no exception.

Yuan Ling had also heard a lot about Xiao He recently and naturally knew how explosively popular this student was online now. He could roughly guess Xiao Heʼs current state. He let out a long sigh, still feeling somewhat regretful inside. But he wasnʼt in a position to advise Xiao He not to neglect his professional skills. Instead, he congratulated him, ”During the May Day holiday, I also went to see your movie. The protagonist in ʼNo Baitʼ was very good. Perhaps you really are more suited to being an actor.”

The day he finished watching ʼNo Bait,ʼ Yuan Lingʼs mood was very complex.

For a moment, he even wondered whether the computer major had held Xiao He back, or whether the acting profession had caused them to lose an outstanding talent in the field of computer science.

There are many people in the field of computer science, but there is one less Xiao He.

There are also many people in the entertainment industry, but now there is one more Xiao He.
