Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 483: Teacher Songzhe’s Prosthetic Limb

However, although He Jinnian had already arrived in Shanghai with the production team, filming couldnʼt begin immediately.

After all, to shoot such a large-scale sci-fi film, the necessary preparatory work was indispensable.

The next day, Xiao He came to the studio temporarily rented by the production team to begin the difficult process of body casting.

Body casting involved creating a 1:1 human model, then based on filming requirements, manufacturing the various component parts of the mecha shell, such as mechanical arms, mechanized transforming weapons, mechanical external helmets, and so on. Finally, everything would be assembled, details added, mechanical joints processed, and lighting installed to perfect the overall appearance.

The advantage of this approach was that even in close-up shots, the metallic texture, patterns, and light reflections of the machinery would appear more realistic. The physical interaction when actors wore the suits would also be more natural, with smoother action transitions. This would reduce the need for extensive post-production CG repairs and allow the actors in opposite scenes to feel more immersed.

The only person who might find it particularly arduous was Xiao He himself.

He needed to repeatedly undergo casting adjustments, ensure he maintained his physique to keep the model consistent, and simultaneously begin weight training.

The general content of this weight training was that Xiao He needed to strap heavy sandbags to his arms, legs, and back, then perform walking back and forth and basic martial arts movements.

This was essentially simulating the mechanical combat state during filming in advance.

And this training was unavoidable for Shu Han as well.
Although his six-to-seven-meter-tall mecha robot was created with post-production special effects, Shu Han also had to wear many sets of flight devices and combat suits in the early stages. Furthermore, the number of times heʼd be doing wire work wouldnʼt be much less than Xiao Heʼs, making him a major highlight of the fight scenes as well.

And so, the two brothers in misery began their bitter torment at the martial arts hall once again.

Leading them was still Xiao Heʼs previous martial arts teacher, Song Zhe.

Song Zhe was the sword techniques teacher who had lost an arm during a mission. Although his body had a disability, it didnʼt affect his teaching quality. Over the years, Xiao He had learned many things from him, including not only sword techniques and martial arts, but even some basic combat techniques from other countries.

And this time, Song Zhe was once again going to lead Xiao He and the others in training for the filmʼs combat scenes in advance.

-

On this day, Xiao He saw Song Zhe voluntarily attach a prosthetic arm to his own arm for the first time.

In the past, when movements were large in amplitude, wearing a prosthetic would actually affect flexibility and easily place a burden on the body. Therefore, Song Zhe rarely appeared wearing his prosthetic during daily teaching sessions. Xiao He had already grown accustomed to this and didnʼt give his disability a second thought at all.

It wasnʼt until this time, seeing Song Zheʼs arm filled with a mechanical texture, that Xiao He couldnʼt help but exclaim in admiration, ”Wow, thatʼs so cool, Teacher Song.”

In the plot of ”Super Spacetime Confrontation,” the assassin A played by Xiao He possessed a fully weaponized, freely transforming mechanical arm that could switch between different forms at any time to meet combat needs in various situations.

To better research the combat modes of the mechanical arm for the later stages, Song Zhe was also very professionally cooperating with the production teamʼs requirements by wearing his own prosthetic.

However, Song Zhe, who rarely used his prosthetic in daily life, couldnʼt help but show a trace of loss and melancholy on his face when he saw the mechanically-textured arm replacing his empty right hand.

But this emotion didnʼt last long before a clamor of voices came from outside the practice room.

Immediately after, Pu Rong pushed the door open and walked in together with Shu Han.

”Woo-hoo~”

This martial arts hall belonged to Pu Rongʼs family, and with Song Zhe as the resident teacher here, their relationship was naturally very good. So when Pu Rong saw Song Zheʼs prosthetic, he directly let out an exaggerated whistle, ”Brother Song, you finally decided to wear it? I told you, you should wear it from time to time. If you donʼt use this mechanical thing for a few days, problems easily arise—sticking here, jamming there. On the contrary, you need to use it regularly to keep it new!”

”Mm.”

Song Zhe raised his arm and waved it. The metallic prosthetic gleamed with an impersonal, cold light under the illumination.

”How come youʼre here, kid?”

Xiao He greeted him with a smile.

”Heh heh, I successfully recommended myself yesterday, so I came to join you guys!”

Pu Rong laughed especially brightly, then even winked at Xiao He, ”And thanks for the lead, Brother Xiao.”

Recently, when coming to the martial arts hall to practice, Xiao He had casually mentioned it to Pu Rong.

Pu Rong, who was currently worried about not having any new projects to film, decisively swallowed his pride and went to recommend himself to Director He as soon as he heard Xiao Heʼs production team was short on people. He successfully interviewed for a relatively important role.

And so, the practice squad gained another fierce addition.

However, everyone who had just arrived was very interested in Song Zheʼs prosthetic.

Xiao He also observed it carefully from the side.

The people he knew were basically all physically whole, so Xiao He had almost no contact with such things. Usually, when walking on the street, if he encountered someone with a physical disability, he would also subconsciously avert his gaze to avoid his stare causing them pressure. This was the first time Xiao He had been in close contact with and observed such a high-tech textured prosthetic.

It wasnʼt a cold, decorative object, but a true ”mechanical hand” that could actually move its fingers and perform basic grasping actions. Although the movements still carried a mechanical stiffness, its flexibility far exceeded Xiao Heʼs stereotypical impression of such prosthetics.

Shu Han clearly shared the same kind of amazement as Xiao He, ”Iʼd heard before that prosthetics capable of flexibly moving fingers had already appeared, but I didnʼt expect their sensitivity and convenience to be this high.”

”This is a myoelectric prosthetic, currently one of the mainstream mid-to-high-end functional prosthetics. Itʼs a type with relatively strong practicality. The main principle is to use the tiny myoelectric signals generated when the residual limb muscles contract to drive the prosthetic to perform corresponding actions.”

Song Zhe gave a brief introduction.

However, most of these prosthetics on the market now come paired with silicone simulated hand skins, making their appearance quite realistic and fitting the daily usage needs of the general public. The one on Song Zheʼs hand, however, directly exposed the cold, mechanical-textured interior. Its overall technological level was higher than those on the market.

Xiao He guessed this was probably a model not currently available on the market.

And if Song Zhe could use it, it should be because of his previous identity.

Since Song Zhe didnʼt mention it, Xiao He didnʼt ask either. He just curiously reached out and shook hands with Song Zheʼs prosthetic, then inquired, ”Can we try arm wrestling with it?”

Song Zhe hesitated for a moment but still refused Xiao Heʼs suggestion, ”Sorry, this arm isnʼt very suitable for that.”

Pu Rong also helped explain from the side, ”This prosthetic was sent over by Brother Songʼs friend for testing a while ago, so Brother Song doesnʼt fully understand its functionalities yet either. For safetyʼs sake, itʼs better not to try something like that.”

Their responses basically confirmed Xiao Heʼs guess.

It was indeed a prosthetic model not currently available on the market.

”Since it was sent for testing, then letʼs give it a try. Iʼm pretty strong, you know.”

Xiao Heʼs strength, due to some skill bonuses drawn from the System previously, had become far beyond that of an ordinary person, but it still didnʼt exceed the human range.

Moreover, with his recovery power enhanced, even if he accidentally got injured, it wouldnʼt be a problem.

Rarely getting the chance to try something unusual, Xiao He displayed an unprecedented level of interest.
