Doupo: Rebirth of Gu He, Starting with a Strategy to Win Over Yun Yun

Chapter 10 Yunyun’s First Time Grilling FishChapter 10: Yun Yun’s First... Grilled Fish

The sunset sank, and the moon rose above the willow branches.

Gu He had not returned for a long time, making Yun Yun feel anxious.

Suddenly, a sound came from outside the cave.

Yun Yun’s expression immediately turned serious as she attempted to circulate her Dou Qi, putting her whole body on guard.

”Yun Yun, I’m back!”

Gu He’s steady voice reached Yun Yun’s ears; her heart relaxed, and her furrowed brows smoothed out.

”Why were you gone for so long?” Yun Yun asked softly.

As soon as Gu He entered, he noticed the cave was dim and quickly took out a Moonstone from his storage ring, placing it on the stone wall.

In an instant, the small cave was illuminated, and the warmth brought by the light instinctively put one at ease.

”I went to find some fish!” Gu He raised his eyebrows at Yun Yun happily.

”There are many Rank One and Rank Two Demonic Beasts nearby, but none of them taste good. I found a lake and caught these fish there.”

He lifted the fish, which were tied with hemp rope, so Yun Yun could see them.

This fish was half a zhang long; Gu He had coiled and tied it up so it wouldn’t touch the ground.

The fish eyes on the head were particularly prominent—large and round, with the outer white encircling the inner ink-black, looking like water jelly.

”Wait a bit longer, I’ll grill the fish now.”

Hearing his confident words and seeing his steady manner, Yun Yun should have felt at ease, but Gu He unexpectedly took out his medicinal Cauldron from his storage ring.

”Hmm?” Yun Yun was somewhat puzzled.

Why take out a Cauldron to grill fish? It’s not like he’s performing Alchemy.

Gu He explained, ”I want to roast the fish eyes.”

”Roast fish eyes?”

”The eyes of the fish.” Gu He paused. ”It’s a way of eating I accidentally invented while searching for Heavenly Flames before.”

While setting up the rack to grill the fish, Gu He carved out the fish eyes. Using an Alchemy method, he placed the eyes into the fire vent, wrapping them in Dou Qi to bring out their inherent deliciousness.

”Pfft—”

For some reason, Yun Yun suddenly let out a laugh.

Her sudden smile blossomed into laughter; Yun Yun felt that before this, she had never laughed so many times...

”Gu He, I didn’t expect you to do something like this...”

”Refining fish eyes as if they were Medicinal Pills and then eating them—only you could come up with that.”

Gu He gave a knowing smile and said, ”Do you feel a bit better now?”

Yun Yun was startled, suddenly realizing that even now, Gu He was still looking after her emotions as a ”patient.”

”A bit better...”

Gu He put away the Azure Sea Flame and, using Dou Qi to support the truly ”freshly refined” fish eyes, came to Yun Yun’s side.

”Ah—” Gu He said, as if coaxing a child.

”Can these fish eyes really be good?”

Yun Yun murmured softly and dazedlly opened her mouth.

The crispy yet soft fish eyes touched her lips, and the delicious essence of the fish seemed to explode in her mouth.

*Gulp.*

With a slight sound, the fish eyes entered her stomach. Yun Yun looked at Gu He with her beautiful eyes.

”Is there more?”

”...” Gu He looked at her with a silent gaze.

Yun Yun blinked awkwardly, her long eyelashes like a pair of butterflies about to take flight.

So delicious!

Gu He used Dou Qi to lift the other fish eye. ”As everyone knows, fish have a pair of eyes. I couldn’t possibly not let them reunite in your stomach, could I?”

He teased her while gently feeding her.

After these two fish eyes went down, Yun Yun’s appetite was clearly whetted.

By now, the cave was also filled with the aroma of grilled fish.

*Gurgle.*

Yun Yun’s stomach growled betrayingly, and she turned her head away in embarrassment.

”Here.”

Gu He timely held the freshly grilled fish meat to Yun Yun’s lips.

The fish skin was crispy and the meat tender; Yun Yun didn’t even care that it was a bit hot. Opening her cherry-like mouth, she ate surprisingly fast.

”Is it good?” Gu He asked in a low voice, smiling.

”Mhm, it’s alright.” Yun Yun didn’t want to praise Gu He too much, fearing he would become arrogant.

After Yun Yun finished, Gu He ate a bit hastily and then cleaned up the remains.

”Gu He,” Yun Yun suddenly spoke up.

”I’m here.”

”My Meridians are severely damaged; I’m afraid it will take a few days to break the Seal,” Yun Yun said with difficulty.

”These next few days, I’m afraid I’ll be a burden to you.”

Gu He said, ”It’s fine. Um, do you want to wipe your mouth?”

Yun Yun was slightly stunned, then let out a hum of affirmation. ”Mhm.”

Gu He took a damp handkerchief and wiped Yun Yun’s mouth.

After eating her fill, Yun Yun exuded an air of laziness. Her full red lips were pressed down by Gu He through the handkerchief and then bounced back, appearing exceptionally sexy.

Gu He finished wiping with a hint of reluctance. Just as he was about to deal with the handkerchief, Yun Yun called out to him.

”Where are you sleeping tonight?” Yun Yun asked.

Gu He was startled. ”I’ll go meditate outside the cave. I can also keep an eye on the surroundings and move you if any danger arises.”

Yun Yun felt a warmth in her heart. ”Actually... it’s cold outside. You can observe the situation from inside too... Seeing you also puts my mind at ease.”

A gentle breeze seemed to rise within the small cave, drifting back and forth, entering the hearts of both.

...

A night passed.

The next day, the midday sun scorched the earth.

This time, Gu He brought back two large fish.

Yun Yun had been working hard to dissolve the Seal, and now she could slightly lift her hand.

Seeing the fish, which were even plumper than yesterday’s, her eyes lit up, and the words she had been holding back escaped her lips.

”Gu He, how about letting me grill them this time?”

Gu He was taken aback and helped her sit up.

Yun Yun said, ”I feel much better than yesterday. Let me try grilling the fish!”

Gu He looked at Yun Yun’s girl-like demeanor, and his heart stirred slightly.

”Alright, you do it,” Gu He said, but he still started the fire first, only letting Yun Yun turn the roasting stick and manage the seasonings.

Yun Yun carefully turned the roasting stick, the red flames reflecting off her snow-white face.

”Actually... I’ve never prepared food myself before.”

While controlling the heat, Gu He said, ”You’re already excellent enough. With the strength of a Three-star Dou Huang, I don’t know how many people fear and admire you. If you were good at everything, wouldn’t you be a Prodigy?”

Yun Yun was amused and laughed.

Shortly after, the fish was cooked. Gu He used Dou Qi to help Yun Yun process it, tearing it into small pieces and handing them to her.

Upon tasting it, Yun Yun was so scalded that she stuck out her cherry-red tongue.

Gu He leaned in and helped her blow on it, then Yun Yun took small bites.

”It’s a bit salty,” Yun Yun murmured softly.

Gu He also tasted a bit. Instead of saying it was salty, he praised her generously.

”For a first-time grilled fish, it’s not burnt, not bitter, and there’s no fishy smell at all. It’s full of delicious flavor. It’s great!”

Yun Yun’s face, usually full of cool elegance, suddenly flushed pink with embarrassment, and her ears turned so red they looked ready to bleed.

She with some difficulty raised her hand to touch her burning earlobes, not quite understanding: Gu He wasn’t saying sweet nothings to her, so why was she blushing?

”Mhm,” Yun Yun responded softly.

Gu He looked into Yun Yun’s dazzling eyes, of which she was unaware, and smiled warmly. ”Keep eating.”

”Since it’s difficult for you to move, I’ll feed you.”

Facing Gu He’s incredibly natural actions, Yun Yun couldn’t think of a reason to refuse.

”Okay.”

She accepted Gu He’s feeding bit by bit.
