Becoming an Immortal and Ancestor, Starting from the Clan-protecting Divine Beast

17: Chapter 17 Pursuing the Origin, Pursuing the Rainbow, and Testing the SpiritLuoyun Mountain, Luoxia Garden.

Ruan Zhirou looked at her aunt with some confusion and asked, ”Aunt, that female infant clearly possesses the Luck of the Li Fire, and the mysterious bird imprint on her forehead is the best proof. Why not let me say it out loud? Isn’t this what we should do?”

A Midwife is not only responsible for delivering babies for Cultivators, but if the baby born has Innate supernatural traits or unusual phenomena, she must also use her own experience and insight to make a rough judgment and inform the employer.

Ruan Yurong waved her hand, interrupting Ruan Zhirou. She stood up from her chair and walked straight to the window, looking at the sea of clouds outside, her tone faint:

”Zhirou, you are still too young. For a small Family like this, the appearance of a descendant carrying the Luck of a certain Dao is not a blessing, but a disaster.”

As she spoke, she turned around and looked at Ruan Zhirou, her voice crisp: ”I will give the Chen Family twelve years. If they can produce a Foundation Establishment Great Cultivator, then I will give the Chen Family a great Opportunity—an Opportunity that will allow that girl to grow. Whether they can grasp it depends on the Chen Family themselves.”

”But Aunt…” Ruan Zhirou wanted to say something more, but Ruan Yurong reached out and interrupted her.

”Bearing the Luck of the Li Fire and carrying the mysterious bird imprint, the Luck of this Chen Family should rise accordingly. That Chen Family Head has a solid Foundation; it should not be difficult to Breakthrough to Foundation Establishment within twelve years.”

”Zhirou, when you followed me onto this path, you should have understood what the mystery of Luck is, what the wonder of Luck is. When breaking the rules, one cannot treat things with common logic.”

After Ruan Yurong finished speaking, without any hesitation, she walked directly into the main bedroom to rest, leaving Ruan Zhirou standing in the hall with furrowed brows, her thoughts in chaos.

”Luck, is it?”

Having lost her parents at a young age, she had traveled the world with this aunt since she was a child, seeing all kinds of people, including those with Innate supernatural traits.

In Ruan Yurong’s words, these people all possess great Luck and their cultivation in a certain Dao far exceeds that of others; they are future seeds of the Purple Mansion or even the Golden Core.

Even within a Golden Core Upper Sect presided over by a Golden Core True Monarch, those who possess such Luck are in the minority; they are either Purple Mansion True Disciples or direct Disciples of the True Monarch, holding a status far above ordinary Disciples.

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Chen Fufeng sat on the edge of the bed holding his fourth son. As a Cultivator, Ji Wanqing recovered quickly after giving birth and was now leaning against the wall, looking at the female infant in her arms with a gentle expression.

”By the way, Fufeng, have you decided on the names for our fourth son and fifth daughter?” Ji Wanqing asked.

Upon hearing this, Chen Fufeng straightened his back and said, ”Wanqing, I had already decided earlier. If it’s a son, we’ll call him Zhuyuan, Chen Zhuyuan. If it’s a daughter, we’ll call her Zhuhong, Chen Zhuhong.”

”Good, then from now on you are Zhuhong,” Ji Wanqing said softly to the female infant in her arms, then looked at the male infant in Chen Fufeng’s arms: ”And you are Zhuyuan.”

Just like that, two new members were added to the Chen Family Main Lineage in Liming Town: Chen Zhuyuan and Chen Zhuhong!

...

Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, six months had passed.

The Chen Family Ancestral Hall was very lively today. A miniature version of Yuan Feng sat on Chen Fufeng’s shoulder, his aura weak and almost imperceptible, saying nothing, just watching the busy crowd.

Chen Wang and Chen Bao also came, with several seven or eight-year-old boys and girls standing behind them, looking ahead timidly.

As for Ji Wanqing, she stood beside Chen Fufeng, holding Zhuyuan in one hand and Zhuhong in the other, watching her second son quietly.

Chen Zhuxiao, dressed in plain white clothes, stood in front of the Ancestral Hall, holding a stick of incense. He bowed three times to the ancestors of the Chen Family, then inserted the incense into the incense burner.

Today was his seventh birthday, and also the day for his Spiritual Root test.

As a small Family that had just started not long ago, the Chen Family’s method of testing Spiritual Roots requires the body to grow to a certain degree before measurement can be performed, to detect whether one possesses a Spiritual Root, whether one can step onto the path of cultivation, the length of the Spiritual Root, and what attributes the Spiritual Root tends towards, etc.

This method is called Spiritual Testing, also known as Ascending the Immortal Gate, implying that those with Spiritual Roots can step into immortality in one go, cross the Immortal Gate, and become an Immortal Cultivator!

After offering the incense, Chen Zhuxiao reached out and took a metal disk handed over by his father. Embedded on the disk were nine colorless crystals, with a protrusion in the center large enough for one hand to grip, and the surface was engraved with dense patterns.

This is a Spiritual Testing Disk, a First-Grade High Grade Magical Artifact, specifically used to test whether a Mortal possesses a Spiritual Root. The nine colorless crystals on it represent nine attributes: the Five Elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, plus the four special attributes of Yin and Yang, Wind and Lightning.

An ordinary Spiritual Testing Disk is a First-Grade Medium Grade Magical Artifact, which can only measure the Five Elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, and cannot measure Yin and Yang, Wind and Lightning. This one of the Chen Family is an upgraded version, and the price is much more expensive.

This was only because Chen Fufeng had made a fortune on his trip to the Li Family a while ago that he was willing to sell the previous First-Grade Medium Grade Spiritual Testing Disk and exchange it for this upgraded version.

”Is this the thing for testing Spiritual Roots? It looks pretty good.”

Chen Zhuxiao had been clever since he was a child. Before coming to the Ancestral Hall, his older brother had told him what day it was and asked him to be serious and not be sloppy, as this was related to his future and was very important.

”Calm your heart and place your hand on the jade stone protruding from the disk.”

Chen Fufeng’s voice came, allowing the tense Chen Zhuxiao to relax, and he hurriedly stretched out his right hand to grip it.

The moment he gripped it, he felt a current spread throughout his body. For just a split second, it made him shiver, but his right hand still gripped the jade stone tightly.

After a while, a deep blue light lit up from one of the nine crystals, with electric arcs faintly jumping, which was very dazzling.

The patterns on the Spiritual Testing Disk lit up one by one, with deep blue light flowing through them, and finally formed a line of text above the disk.

Spiritual Root length of 1.3 feet, affinity with Lightning attribute, Top-tier Aptitude!

Chen Fufeng and his wife looked at each other, their eyes filled with joy and shock.

The length of the Spiritual Root represents the quality of Aptitude. The longer the Spiritual Root, the faster the Cultivation speed. Anyone exceeding one foot is definitely a high-level Aptitude, not to mention 1.3 feet; this is definitely a cultivation Genius.

And Spiritual Root affinity indicates that the Spiritual Root has a high affinity for a certain attribute. Cultivating a Cultivation Technique of this attribute will achieve twice the result with half the effort, exerting an effect of one plus one greater than two.

”Dad, Mom, I have Top-tier Aptitude!” Chen Zhuxiao raised his chin and said proudly.

He was not a novice to the Immortal Dao. He had read books like Basic Knowledge of the Immortal Dao and Hundred Solutions of Cultivation. He had an idea of what level the Spiritual Root he tested was at, and it was definitely an Aptitude that could drop jaws.

”Very good, but don’t be too proud, kid. Our Chen Family doesn’t have any Lightning attribute Cultivation Techniques yet.” Chen Fufeng walked over, took the Spiritual Testing Disk in his hand, and said with a straight face.

He was afraid that Chen Zhuxiao would be too arrogant, which was not a good thing.

”It’s okay, Dad. Before the Qi Refining Realm, there is still the Nourishing Origin Realm. Your son wants to lay the deepest Foundation, and then refine High Grade Lightning attribute Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi to Breakthrough to the Qi Refining Realm. This will take a long time, enough for you to find a Lightning attribute Cultivation Technique.” Chen Zhuxiao’s eyes were bright as he spoke loudly.

In the Nourishing Origin Realm, one has not yet refined Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi. The focus is on consolidating the Foundation and tempering the physique, so the dependence on Cultivation Techniques is not high. But once you reach the Qi Refining stage, you must have a corresponding attribute Cultivation Technique.

”You kid.” Chen Fufeng patted his second son’s shoulder, feeling both happy and worried. Lightning attribute Cultivation Techniques are not that easy to find; they are very rare.

Not only that, having too high a talent is not a good thing, especially for a small Family like the Chen Family. It is easy to attract jealousy and bring disaster.

”Foundation Establishment, must reach Foundation Establishment! Only by becoming a Great Cultivator can we deal with these troubles!” Chen Fufeng’s thoughts spun wildly. At this moment, his longing for the Foundation Establishment Realm reached its peak.

The Chen Family first produced the naturally supernatural Chen Zhuhong, and now there is an additional Chen Zhuxiao with Top-tier Aptitude. It can be said that the future is promising. It’s not just Foundation Establishment, they can even hope for the Purple Mansion True Person.

But the prerequisite for all this is that the Chen Family can hold on until the two of them grow up, otherwise everything is just empty talk.

”Brother Yuan, it seems you and I need to work hard on our Cultivation.” Chen Fufeng transmitted his voice.

Yuan Feng patted his shoulder and replied: ”Don’t worry, Old Chen, just don’t let me leave you too far behind.”

His words were not groundless. After this matter was over, he decided to add points to improve his Bloodline. He was afraid he would fall into a deep sleep for a while. After waking up, he estimated he could Breakthrough to Peak Qi Refining, and would be only one step away from Foundation Establishment.

The strength of a Yao Beast Bloodline determines the depth of the Foundation, so Yuan Feng naturally hoped to step into Foundation Establishment with a higher-level Yao Beast Bloodline, so that he could maintain strong combat power instead of being swept away by Cultivators of the same level like trash.

He now belongs to an Advanced Yao Beast Bloodline. He didn’t know what rank the next Bloodline would be—would it be a Top-tier Yao Beast Bloodline or something else?

Just as Yuan Feng was lost in thought, the few boys and girls behind Chen Wang and Chen Bao walked out one by one, and under the guidance of Chen Fufeng, they tested their Spiritual Roots.

They came from the Chen Family branch, and all had reached the age where they needed to test their Spiritual Roots. This time they came to participate in the measurement together with the Main Lineage young master, Chen Zhuxiao.

”Chen Zhuhua, no Spiritual Root, next.” Chen Fufeng’s calm voice sounded in the Ancestral Hall, but it sounded extremely harsh to the ears of the young person who had finished the Spiritual Root test.

No Spiritual Root means no cultivation Aptitude; one can only be reduced to the crowd and become the bottom of the Family.

Either go practice martial arts, and you can still have a certain ability to protect yourself among Mortals.

If one can Breakthrough to the Innate Realm, that is leaping over the dragon gate, turning from Mortal to Immortal, equivalent to a Qi Refining Cultivator.

There were five children in total, and four of them were tested in succession, all without Spiritual Roots, until a thin little girl was tested, and the Spiritual Testing Disk, which had been silent, suddenly burst into light.

”Chen Zhuyu, Spiritual Root length 6.5 inches, affinity with Wood attribute, Medium-Low Aptitude!”

As Chen Fufeng’s voice fell, Chen Wang bowed to Chen Bao and said, ”Congratulations, Brother Chen Bao, your lineage has produced an Immortal Cultivator seed with Medium-Low Aptitude. The future is promising.”

Chen Bao was extremely excited inside, but he didn’t show too much joy on the surface, pretending to be indifferent and said: ”So-so, it’s far worse than Young Master Zhu Xiao. If she can reach Late Stage Qi Refining in this life, it will be an honor to the ancestors.”

Chen Wang smiled and said nothing more.

Chen Zhuxiao’s 1.3-foot Spiritual Root, Top-tier Aptitude—compared to him, Chen Zhuyu is indeed far behind.

Such Aptitude is probably considered top-tier even in big Sects. The Chen Family is really going to rise!

After the Chen Family branch finished the Spiritual Testing, Chen Fufeng looked at Chen Bao and nodded.

The latter understood, walked out of the Ancestral Hall, and after a while, brought in twenty or so children, dressed in plain clothes—they were all the descendants of the Mortals down the mountain.

After Chen Fufeng established the Luoyun Mountain Chen Family, he strongly encouraged childbirth; the more children born, the greater the reward, so there were many newborn children in the Mortal territory under his command.

But even so, there were only twenty or so children who met the criteria this time, not many.

The reason for this is that the number of Mortals under his rule is too small. Unless ten or twenty years pass, this number will not be considerable.

However, for the current Chen Family, it is enough.

Under the leadership of Chen Bao, these children held the Spiritual Testing Disk one by one.

After testing ten or so, the Spiritual Testing Disk finally reacted; it was triggered by a little boy.

”What is your name?” Chen Fufeng’s tone was gentle.

The little boy raised his head, looked at Chen Fufeng, and said loudly, ”I… I am Jiang Yunlei!”

”Good.” Chen Fufeng touched the little boy’s head and announced loudly: ”Jiang Yunlei, Spiritual Root length 7.2 inches, affinity with Metal attribute, Medium Aptitude!”

He used his Spiritual Qi, and his voice carried very far, and the entire Luoyun Mountain echoed with his voice.

Among the group of Family members waiting at the waist of the mountain, an old man in old clothes burst into tears. He was Jiang Yunlei’s grandfather, who had raised Jiang Yunlei with great difficulty, and only he knew the bitterness of it.

The people around him had complicated eyes, with envy and jealousy.

Possessing cultivation Aptitude, and it is Medium Aptitude, the future is promising, it is definitely a rhythm for taking off.

If you don’t flatter now, when will you?

Just like that, a group of people began to flatter.

After letting Jiang Yunlei wait on the side, Chen Fufeng signaled the remaining children to come over for testing.

Just like that, the remaining children went up to accept the Spiritual Root test.

Finally, a little girl triggered the Spiritual Testing Disk, which meant that another person with cultivation Aptitude appeared!

”What is your name?”

The little girl lowered her head, fiddling with the corner of her clothes, her voice small: ”I… I am Su Meng.”

”Good child.” Chen Fufeng’s voice was soft, then he announced loudly: ”Su Meng, Spiritual Root length 7.3 inches, Medium Aptitude!”

Another Medium Aptitude!

Chen Fufeng was also a little excited. During this period, the Chen Family seemed to have had a burst of Luck, which really made him feel a bit dreamy.

First, a naturally supernatural person appeared, then a Top-tier Aptitude with a 1.3-foot Spiritual Root, then two consecutive Medium cultivation Aptitudes, plus one with Medium-Low Aptitude—the Chen Family’s generation already has five people who can step onto the path of cultivation. The future is promising!

On the other side, Ruan Yurong and her companion had not yet left and were still living on this Luoyun Mountain.

In Ruan Yurong’s words, the scenery of Luoyun Mountain is not bad, and she wants to stay a little longer, and by the way, provide after-sales service.

Of course, Chen Fufeng naturally didn’t believe this nonsense. The Chen Family has many secrets, and he is not at ease with such an outsider around.

Then, Ruan Yurong confessed directly to Chen Fufeng.

”Your Family’s Zhuhong bears the Luck of the Li Fire. The most suitable Sect for her is the Zhiyang Sect located in the Western Territory of Great Qi, but wanting to travel across borders is too dangerous. If the Chen Family can produce a Foundation Establishment Great Cultivator, then I can recommend your Zhuhong to go to the Zhiyang Sect to Cultivate.”

”A Foundation Establishment Great Cultivator is considered to have some ability to protect themselves and can travel across borders to the Western Territory without dying on the road.”

As for why she didn’t send a message to the Zhiyang Sect and let the Zhiyang Sect send someone to take Chen Zhuhong away, there is a reason.

The place where they are currently located belongs to Liyuan Commandery, and Liyuan Commandery is located in the Eastern Territory of Great Qi, within the Xuan Prefecture.

This Xuan Prefecture is the territory of the Xuan Yuan Sect, and this Xuan Yuan Sect has an irreconcilable conflict with the Zhiyang Sect. Both sides have had friction since their ancestors, and for so many years, there have even been fights at the Golden Core True Monarch level, with more than one Golden Core True Monarch falling. It can be said that they are Mortal enemies.

This is also the reason why she did not dare to let people from the Zhiyang Sect cross the border to take Chen Zhuhong away. If one is not careful, let alone Liming Town, the entire Liyuan Commandery might be beaten to the ground.

But she didn’t want a Genius bearing the Luck of the Li Fire to be buried. If the Zhiyang Sect is willing to spend great efforts to Cultivate her, a Golden Core True Monarch is to be expected, and she can even peek at the Realm above the Golden Core!

After learning this news, Chen Fufeng pondered for a long time, sought the opinions of his wife and Yuan Feng, and finally agreed.

If the Chen Family can produce a Foundation Establishment Great Cultivator within twelve years, then that Foundation Establishment Great Cultivator will take Chen Zhuhong across the Eastern and Western Territories to the Zhiyang Sect to become an apprentice!

This is a gamble, and it is also a struggle—a struggle for that glimmer of Opportunity to soar!
