Officer! You Can Get a First-class Merit Awards Just by Eating Melon Seeds?

Chapter 74 He’s a gangster!”Are you sure there isn’t?”

A playful voice came from Chen Mo.

From his tone, Long Hao and the others understood instantly.

There was something wrong with Wang Dawei’s answer!

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have used that tone.

”Huh?”

”No... no, there isn’t!”

Wang Dawei hadn’t expected the officer to question his answer, and for a moment, he looked quite nervous.

”What are you so nervous about?”

Am I nervous?

I’m not nervous.

”Officer, please stop teasing me. I’m a timid person.”

Wang Dawei let out a forced laugh, pressing his hands together in a gesture of pleading.

”It’s the first time I’ve heard of a timid person daring to lie to the police.”

After saying that, Chen Mo stared at him with an unfriendly expression.

The atmosphere on the scene instantly turned cold.

”We’re asking you, speak up!”

Xiao Zhang roared at Wang Dawei.

If Brother Mo said this person was suspicious, then he definitely was.

To think he actually dared to lie.

Did he really think they were that easy to fool?

”I...”

Wang Dawei’s face was filled with bitterness.

This wasn’t what he had expected before coming here.

He had thought that with just a few words, he could hide the secrets he kept in his heart.

He hadn’t expected his lying skills to be so poor that the officer in front of him could see right through him at a glance.

”I’ll talk, I’ll talk, okay?”

He was truly frightened by the several pairs of cold eyes staring at him.

”I do know who Lin Dahai might have a grudge with, but whether it was that person who did it, I really don’t know!”

Clearing his own name before confessing—a standard move.

”Cut the crap. We’ll find out for ourselves whether it was him or not. Hurry up and speak!”

Xiao Zhang urged him.

”Song... Song Wei, the owner of the restaurant diagonally across from mine.”

”Last month, business at my place was terrible. All the customers were lured away by Song Wei’s restaurant.”

”I thought about getting my hands on their recipe so my business would improve, and then Lin Dahai came for an interview.”

”We weren’t planning on hiring anyone because business was slow, but he said if I hired him, he had a way.”

After he finished speaking, the general situation became clear.

When Lin Dahai first moved here, he went to Delicious Abode for an interview. Delicious Abode’s business was poor and they didn’t need staff, but Lin Dahai, desperate for a job, made a deal with the owner, Wang Dawei.

If he got the recipe, he could get the job.

So he suspected that for Lin Dahai, who had only been there for a month, the only person he could have a grudge with was Song Wei.

The other party discovered the recipe had been stolen and killed him in a fit of rage.

And those steel nails embedded in the body were a warning to Lin Dahai to keep his hands clean in the future.

It made sense, but the motive wasn’t strong enough.

If it was just to teach him a lesson about keeping his hands clean, there was no need to kill him; the trouble following an injury is different from that of a murder.

Embedding steel nails in the hands would have been enough; there was no need to drive them all over his body.

”Why do you suspect Song Wei?”

Chen Mo keenly noticed that Wang Dawei had more to say.

It was likely the reason why, from his perspective, Song Wei would be capable of doing such things.

”Officers, you might not know, but there used to be over a dozen restaurants on our street. Since Song Wei moved in, only our two are left.”

Xiao Zhang nodded from the side, confirming that what he said was true. During the previous investigation, that street was indeed in such a state.

”Song Wei is a gangster! Everyone was forced out of business by his men.”

”Smashing windows late at night, throwing cockroaches and rats into kitchens, pretending to be customers and claiming there were flies in the food!”

Wang Dawei spoke vividly, glancing toward the courtyard gate as he spoke, for fear that his words would be overheard and leaked, bringing trouble upon himself.

”What you’ve said only shows that this Song Wei has an overbearing personality and engages in malicious competition. If you want to use us to get Song Wei arrested, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.”

Long Hao felt disgusted by this kind of person; his petty schemes were written all over his face.

He then waved his hand for Xiao Zhang to take the man away, finding him annoying to look at.

”Wait...”

”I know what you want to know. Song Wei is a murderer who just got out of prison after serving his time!”

Seeing that he was about to be led out, Wang Dawei didn’t dare to harbor any more petty schemes and quickly played his trump card.

”Wait a second, a murderer!?”

Long Hao signaled Xiao Zhang to let go of him first, then stepped in front of him and warned in a cold tone.

”I hope you’re telling the truth. If you’re talking nonsense, the consequences will be more serious than you can imagine.”

If this Song Wei was indeed a murderer who had been released after reform through labor.

Then the nature of the situation would be different from simple overbearing behavior and malicious competition.

When it comes to crime, once there’s a first time, there’s a second; that’s why there are so many repeat offenders in prison.

”I’m telling the truth. I asked someone to look up his background.”

Wang Dawei’s tone was firm.

Seeing this, Long Hao didn’t dwell on it too much; such things could easily be verified with a quick check.

”The questioning is over. You can go back now.”

”We will keep what you said today confidential.”

Wang Dawei breathed a sigh of relief and then left in a hurry.

”Xiao Zhang, take a few people and immediately look up Song Wei’s files and his associates. Bring them to me as soon as you find them.”

After Long Hao gave the order, Xiao Zhang left with his team.

”Song Wei is indeed a suspect. At the very least, he has killed before, and now the deceased is connected to him. Investigating him is justified.”

As he spoke, he looked at Chen Mo beside him.

”Yeah, let’s wait for the investigation results.”

...

Half an hour later.

Xiao Zhang walked in quickly with Song Wei’s files.

”Everything’s been found.”

”This Song Wei is 36 years old, a native of Binhai, with a high school education. At 17, he was sentenced to 12 years by the court for unlawful detention and negligent homicide, and he was released seven years ago.”

”He currently runs a restaurant and keeps over twenty thugs under him. The other restaurants on that street were all forced out by his people, using the same methods Wang Dawei described.”

”Business hasn’t been good this month, likely because the recipe was stolen by Lin Dahai.”

In that case, the suspicion against Song Wei is growing stronger.

”What do you think, Chen Mo?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Mo replied:

”This Song Wei is also from Binhai, 36 years old...”

He then picked up the file on Feng Juan.

His gaze fell on her educational background.

”Elementary school, middle school, high school (Binhai First High School), university.”

He then looked at Song Wei’s.

”Interesting. These two actually attended the same schools from elementary all the way through high school.”

”Really!?”

Long Hao hurriedly took the file to check.

”It really is! Looking at it this way, Song Wei is even more suspicious.”

”Did something happen between them?”

Seeing Captain Long’s gaze turn toward him, Xiao Zhang waved his hands repeatedly, indicating that he didn’t know either.

He had only noticed it after Brother Mo’s reminder.

”Does it say the specific reason for his previous imprisonment here?”

Chen Mo suddenly asked.

”Yes... yes, I printed it out specifically.”
