Dream Capture: I Can See Through All Secrets!

85: 85. Lu Hu is in tearsLu Hu clutched the heavy cash box and followed the man in the duckbill cap towards the van. The cold storage truck’s engine was still humming, particularly grating in the empty warehouse.

Lu Hu squinted at the van, feeling something was off. This van was very new, and the model didn’t seem like the one from their usual transactions. Had he misremembered?

But he didn’t think much of it; perhaps the other party had simply changed vehicles.

”He wants to inspect the goods. Open it.”

The man in the duckbill cap winked at his companion, and one of them pulled open the back door of the van.

Cold air whooshed out, making Lu Hu shiver. He squinted inside, seeing dozens of white foam boxes neatly stacked in the spacious compartment.

Lu Hu hadn’t expected it to be so clean; he remembered it always being dirty and having a pungent smell in the past.

”These are top-grade goods, just shipped from overseas.”

The man in the duckbill cap climbed up, dragged over a foam box, and prepared to open it.

Just then, the warehouse door suddenly burst open with a clang.

Five burly men stood at the entrance. The leader was a bald man in a Hawaiian shirt with a large gold chain around his neck, looking exactly like a gangster from a Hong Kong film.

The bald man froze when he saw the situation, especially when he saw Lu Hu holding the briefcase, ready to inspect the goods. He became furious!

”Damn it! You dare to intercept my goods? Are you tired of living?!” The bald man stormed in, staring intently at Lu Hu.

Lu Hu looked bewildered: ”Who are you?”

The bald man stepped forward, grabbed Lu Hu’s collar, and spat in his face: ”Still playing dumb? I’m supposed to make a trade at 8 PM tonight, and you come early to steal my goods?!”

”No... not...” Lu Hu struggled to explain.

”Not you?! You’re asking for death!”

The bald man suddenly slammed him to the ground. Lu Hu’s backside hit the concrete floor hard, making him wince in pain.

The three men with the duckbill cap were also stunned, exchanging glances.

One of them muttered softly: ”What’s going on? This isn’t what we agreed upon...”

”Shut up!”

The man in the duckbill cap sharply cut him off, then turned to the bald man, speaking calmly, ”Brother, is there some misunderstanding?”

”Misunderstanding? I arranged with the middleman to trade for that batch of cigarettes. What, are you pretending not to know?”

The man in the duckbill cap’s expression changed, and he frowned: ”Wait, are you here to buy cigarettes?”

He immediately looked at Lu Hu: ”Then who are you?”

Everyone in the warehouse stared intently at Lu Hu, who was slumped on the ground, making him feel a chill down his spine.

Only then did he realize he had made a huge mistake, a big blunder. This wasn’t the frozen goods he was supposed to trade for, but... cigarettes?

How could this be? He was sure he hadn’t misremembered. It was Warehouse No. 7 at the suburban fertilizer factory... How could it be... wrong?

Lu Hu’s expression was shocked, his mind in utter chaos.

”I’m asking you a question! Where the hell are you from? You want to snatch my Brother Long’s goods, do you? If you don’t speak up, I’ll kill you tonight!!” The bald man squatted down, snarling at Lu Hu with a ferocious look.

Although Lu Hu had made some money, he had never dealt with such shady characters and instantly trembled with fear.

The man in the duckbill cap said gravely: ”Could he be a police informant?”

This sentence was like lighting a powder keg, causing everyone present to jump in their hearts.

After all, their transactions were always incredibly secretive, and for such a person of unknown origin to suddenly appear, it was definitely not right.

Seeing their hostile glares, Lu Hu quickly raised his hands, his teeth chattering, and his voice trembling: ”Gentlemen... gentlemen... this is... this is just a misunderstanding! I just... just came to buy frozen...”

”Frozen your mother!”

The bald man slapped him hard, dazing him, and roared: ”Beat him! Beat him hard! See if he talks!!”

Both groups simultaneously lunged at Lu Hu.

The men with the duckbill cap thought he was a police informant, while the bald man was convinced he was there to hijack the deal.

In an instant, countless fists and shoes rained down on Lu Hu, making him scream in agony.

Lu Hu was a pampered man who had never suffered such hardship. He could only curl up on the ground, clutching his head, crying and wailing.

”Ah ah ah ah!! It hurts! It hurts!”

”Oh my god, my hand... ah ah... boo hoo... stop hitting me... let me go... let me go... I... ah ah ah ah!!”

”I just came to buy... frozen... ah ah ah... goods...”

His screams were drowned out by curses. The intense pain became unbearable, and he wet himself on the spot.

The foul smell spread, making the bald man incredibly disgusted. He coughed up a gob of phlegm and spat it on Lu Hu’s face, preparing to ask more questions.

Just then, the lookout shouted in terror: ”The cops are here! Run!!!”

Police sirens wailed in the distance outside the warehouse, growing louder. Red and blue police lights flashed on the walls through the gaps in the iron door.

Everyone was greatly alarmed, and they looked at Lu Hu on the ground with even more hatred!

”You really are with the cops!!”

The bald man grabbed an iron bar from the ground and violently smashed it onto Lu Hu’s arm.

”Crack,” the crisp sound of bone breaking was clearly audible. Lu Hu’s arm twisted instantly, and the bone-deep pain brought tears and snot to his eyes. He curled into a shrimp-like shape, screaming in heart-wrenching agony.

”Ah ah ah ah!! My arm! My arm!!!”

After hitting him, the bald man threw down the steel pipe, feeling satisfied, and turned to run.

The two groups scattered like birds and beasts. The man in the duckbill cap didn’t forget to snatch Lu Hu’s cash box before leaving.

”Stop! Don’t run!! Police!” Fully armed special police officers rushed in, guns drawn, and began pursuing the fleeing men.

Lu Hu lay miserably on the ground, seeing a pair of shiny police boots appear before him. He struggled to look up, tears streaming down his face.

For the first time in his life, he felt the police were so kind.

He grabbed the police officer’s pant leg like a drowning man clutching a straw, begging in pain: ”Officer... officer... save me... save me... they stole my money, three... three hundred thousand...”

The police officer looked at him suspiciously: ”What were you doing coming to this place late at night with three hundred thousand yuan?”

Lu Hu’s face instantly went pale. He stammered, unable to speak, drenched in sweat!

He tragically realized that if the police hadn’t come, he would have been beaten to death, and now that they had, he was also doomed.

”Officer, I... I am a law-abiding citizen...”

The police officer sneered and waved his hand, shouting: ”Take him away! This person is also problematic; keep him under close observation and interrogation!”

Soon, an ambulance wailed to a stop, and several medical personnel lifted him onto the stretcher. As they passed the van, he saw that the police had already opened the foam boxes, which were all filled with various brands of cigarettes... Lu Hu wanted to cry but had no tears: ”It really isn’t my frozen meat... But how could this happen... There were never any problems like this with previous transactions...” He suddenly thought of the bronze Pixiu and the master’s words about good fortune arriving. He was instantly overcome with grief and indignation, punching the stretcher bed and gritting his teeth: ”Charlatan, you tricked me!! This is what you called good fortune... ah ah ah... it hurts...”

The police officer escorting him heard his mumbling and chuckled, saying: ”For the common people, of course, it’s good fortune. As for you... hehe... you’d better pray your record is clean.”
