226: Chapter 226 Liu Haorui struck goldEarly the next morning, Zhang Wei was cooking noodles in the kitchen when his phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller ID; it was Liu Haorui. Seeing it was Liu Haorui, he fished the noodles out of the pot with his chopsticks while picking up the phone. ”Hello, Old Liu? Why are you calling so early? What’s up?”

On the other end of the line, Liu Haorui’s voice sounded unusually excited. ”Old Zhang, do you know? About that Taisui I mentioned to you yesterday—I just got a call, and a company says they want to buy it!”

Hearing this, Zhang Wei’s movements paused. With a mouthful of noodles, he asked indistinctly, ”What did you say? A company wants to buy it?”

Liu Haorui chuckled heartily on the other end. ”Yeah, Old Zhang, I received the call not long after I finished talking to you yesterday. Quick, help me calculate this. The market price for this piece of Taisui I have is about five thousand per gram. I have one jin, which is five hundred grams. Wouldn’t that be 2.5 million?”

Zhang Wei swallowed a mouthful of noodles and replied with a smile, ”That’s right, that’s the figure.”

Liu Haorui became even more excited. ”I never imagined that this thing I picked up from a small ditch by the roadside would be worth so much. Old Zhang, Xiao Hua and I are currently on our way back to City Name.”

Zhang Wei asked curiously, ”In such a hurry? You’re not staying for a couple more days?”

Liu Haorui said, ”The purchasing company is right here in City Name. I’m just waiting for them to give me the word now.”

Zhang Wei thought for a moment and reminded him, ”How about finding an expert in City Name to appraise it again? After all, this thing is quite valuable. It’s always better to double-check.”

But Liu Haorui laughed and refused. ”No, no, Old Zhang, I need to keep it a secret. Besides, I’ve already promised to sell it to them. Once I get the money, I’ll go buy a house with Xiao Hua. Haha.”

Hearing this, Zhang Wei could only offer his blessings with a smile. ”Alright then, how about coming over to my place for dinner tonight?”

Liu Haorui agreed without hesitation. ”Sure thing, Old Zhang! I want hot pot!”

Zhang Wei nodded with a smile. ”Alright, it’s a deal then. See you tonight.”

The two hung up, and Zhang Wei continued to enjoy his breakfast, feeling happy for Liu Haorui’s good fortune.

In the afternoon, as sunlight slanted across the streets and alleys of City Name, Liu Haorui and Wang Xiaohua arrived smoothly in the bustling metropolis. As soon as they got off the vehicle, they couldn’t wait to take a taxi straight to the office of the company that was supposedly buying the Taisui—Youyou Auction House’s branch in City Name. Along the way, Liu Haorui was in an exceptionally good mood, constantly imagining the wonderful life ahead after receiving the money, as if those 2.5 million were already safely in his pocket.

”Xiao Hua, what do you think about buying a larger house? We won’t have to squeeze into a rental anymore,” Liu Haorui planned for the future excitedly.

Wang Xiaohua nodded with a smile, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. ”Okay, I also want a home of our own, so we don’t have to keep moving and can have a stable place to belong.”

Liu Haorui patted her shoulder and said firmly, ”When the time comes, My older brother can also live with us. Our whole family will be together and lively.”

Wang Xiaohua felt a warmth in her heart but still said, ”It’s alright, I have my own arrangements for My older brother. Old Liu, I appreciate the sentiment.”

Liu Haorui became displeased. ”What are you saying? We’re about to become one family. Your brother is My older brother. Why distinguish between yours and mine?”

A look of touched emotion appeared on Wang Xiaohua’s face as she tightly grasped Liu Haorui’s hand. ”Old Liu, you’re so good to my brother. I really don’t know how to thank you.”

Liu Haorui hugged her, grinning from ear to ear. ”Don’t be so polite. We’re family now; there’s no need for such talk. We have a long life ahead of us.”

Amidst their chatter and laughter, they arrived at the office of Youyou Auction House. It was a modern office building with a glass curtain wall gleaming in the sun, looking very grand. Liu Haorui and Wang Xiaohua entered the lobby and headed straight for the front desk.

”Hello, young lady, we’re here to see President Chen,” Liu Haorui greeted warmly.

The girl at the front desk looked up politely and asked, ”Which President Chen are you looking for?”

Liu Haorui said confidently, ”President Chen Dong. We have an appointment to meet today.”

The girl at the front desk paused for a moment, flipped through the logbook, and then said, ”Are you mistaken? We don’t have anyone named Chen Dong here.”

Liu Haorui didn’t quite believe it and frowned. ”How is that possible? We were just talking to him this morning, and he told us to come here this afternoon.”

The girl at the front desk explained patiently, ”Sir, we really don’t have an employee named Chen Dong here. Could you have the wrong place or the wrong name?”

Liu Haorui still wouldn’t give up. He pulled up the chat records on his phone and handed them to the girl. ”Look, these are our chat records. We agreed to meet here today. There can’t be a mistake.”

The girl glanced at the chat records and shook her head. ”I’m sorry, we really don’t have this person here. If you continue to cause a scene, I’ll have to call security.”

Liu Haorui started to panic now, fine beads of sweat breaking out on his forehead. ”How is that possible? We were chatting just fine this morning, and he said he was very interested in our Taisui.”

After saying that, Liu Haorui stubbornly dialed the other party’s mobile number again, only to find that it was turned off. Watching Liu Haorui’s anxious state from the side, Wang Xiaohua also felt uneasy. She whispered, ”Old Liu, could we have been scammed?”

Liu Haorui froze. The smile on his face instantly solidified, replaced by an expression of disbelief. ”How is that possible? How could this be? We were chatting just fine this morning, and he said we’d meet in the afternoon.”

Wang Xiaohua comforted him, ”Old Liu, don’t worry. Let’s calm down first. Maybe something unexpected happened to him, or maybe we really did get the place wrong.”

Liu Haorui shook his head. ”No, I remember clearly. It’s right here. The address and phone number are all correct. I really can’t figure out why it turned out like this.”

Seeing Liu Haorui’s anxious state, Wang Xiaohua also felt a bit flustered, but she tried her best to remain calm. ”Old Liu, let’s head out first. Let’s find a place to sit down and think about what to do.”

Liu Haorui nodded, and the two walked out of the Youyou Auction House building together, sitting down in a nearby cafe. Soft music played in the cafe, but Liu Haorui was in no mood to enjoy it. His mind was entirely on the Taisui in his bag and the missing President Chen.

Wang Xiaohua tried to guide him. ”Old Liu, think carefully again. Did he mention any other information, like an address or contact details?”

Liu Haorui frowned, trying hard to recall the conversation from that morning. ”I remember clearly. It’s right here. The address and phone number are all correct. I really can’t figure it out. We even discussed the price and market prospects of the Taisui.”

Wang Xiaohua said unwillingly, ”Could it be that he has something urgent to attend to or something happened?”

Liu Haorui sighed and shook his head. ”No, I don’t think that’s likely. His attitude was very clear, and we agreed to meet here today. He wouldn’t just stand us up like this.”

Wang Xiaohua sighed. ”So what do we do now? Should we call the police?”
