The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

203: Chapter 203 The Aftermath of the Cruise Ship IncidentBai Hua sighed and spoke to Lu Yuhan and Zhang Wei in a heavy tone, ”She started as a minor model and worked her way up step by step, enduring many hardships just to get a meager amount of attention. Your career is successful and you are highly appreciated by the boss, which she saw as extremely unfair. Thus, she developed a resentment toward you.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Yuhan’s brows furrowed, and her expression soured. She had never imagined that her own success would actually incite such immense hatred.

Zhang Wei couldn’t help but ask, ”Captain Bai, what about the matter with An Xiaoxi?”

Bai Hua’s gaze instantly became sharp. ”She admitted to that as well. Xiang Yuanyuan said she felt An Xiaoxi was your good friend, so she targeted her.”

Lu Yuhan’s heart sank abruptly, and a chill seemed to rise within her. Her voice was somewhat choked. ”How could she do this?”

Zhang Wei gently patted Lu Yuhan’s shoulder, wanting her not to be too upset. ”Don’t take it to heart. Everything has been investigated thoroughly, and she will be punished by the law.”

Bai Hua added, ”Xiang Yuanyuan also admitted that those rumors were spread by her as well.”

Lu Yuhan felt a mix of emotions after hearing this. After all, they were friends who had grown up together. Although they weren’t particularly close, that friendship was real. She never expected Xiang Yuanyuan would strike such a low blow against her.

All three fell silent. At that moment, Bai Hua suddenly looked up at his watch and said urgently, ”There’s an emergency at the City Bureau; I have to go first.” Having said that, he stood up, bid them both goodbye, and hurriedly left the coffee shop.

Lu Yuhan picked up her cup and took a sip of her drink. ”By the way, you mentioned going to the jewelry company. Is something happening with Sister Jiayan that you need my help with?” Lu Yuhan continued to ask.

”Jiayan has a new project under negotiation, and she needs me to head over there,” Zhang Wei explained.

”Oh, I see.” Lu Yuhan nodded thoughtfully, then suddenly said, ”I happen to have nothing to do. How about I go with you?”

”What do you think? Is it inconvenient?” Seeing that Zhang Wei didn’t answer immediately, Lu Yuhan asked somewhat nervously.

Zhang Wei thought for a moment and finally nodded, saying, ”Alright then, let’s take my car.”

Hearing Zhang Wei agree, a brilliant smile appeared on Lu Yuhan’s face, her eyes sparkling with joy. She gently took Zhang Wei’s arm, looking like a docile kitten.

After leaving the coffee shop, the two got into Zhang Wei’s car. Sunlight pierced through the car window, dappling Lu Yuhan’s face and outlining her delicate and exquisite features. She tilted her head slightly, her gaze falling tenderly on Zhang Wei, who was focused on driving, a faint smile gracing her lips. Since the Cruise Ship Incident, Zhang Wei had noticed that Lu Yuhan’s attitude toward him had shifted quietly; the former distance had gradually faded, replaced by her initiative to be close and her frequent companionship.

”Zhang Wei, have you been very busy lately?” Lu Yuhan’s voice was as soft as a Spring breeze, gently brushing against the heart.

”Hey, it’s alright.” Zhang Wei stared straight at the road and replied with that single sentence. He knew in his heart that Lu Yuhan’s words weren’t simple; there was another meaning behind the concern.

”No matter how busy you are, you have to look after your health.” Lu Yuhan’s words were full of care.

Zhang Wei responded with a warm smile. He wasn’t very good at dealing with girls, but Lu Yuhan’s gentleness and consideration made him feel exceptionally comfortable.

Arriving at the jewelry company, the two walked in together. The young girl at the front desk spotted Zhang Wei at once and greeted him enthusiastically, ”President Zhang, you’re here! President Chen is waiting in the conference room.”

Zhang Wei nodded and introduced Lu Yuhan to the girl at the front desk, ”This is my friend Lu Yuhan; she’s with me today.” Upon hearing this, the young girl also gave Lu Yuhan a smile.

Chen Jiayan pushed open the door to Zhang Wei’s office and glanced inside. Zhang Wei was sitting at his desk, and Lu Yuhan was right beside him, leaning over and whispering to Zhang Wei with their heads close together. A flash of surprise crossed Chen Jiayan’s face, wondering when these two had become so close.

”I was just in a meeting. Did I keep you waiting?” Chen Jiayan said as she walked in.

Hearing this, Lu Yuhan quickly straightened up and gave Chen Jiayan a polite smile. ”Hi, Sister Jiayan. Sorry for the intrusion; I just accompanied Zhang Wei here.”

”No intrusion at all, we’re all friends here.” Chen Jiayan laughed heartily, and the atmosphere in the office instantly became lively.

After a few pleasantries, Chen Jiayan got down to business. ”I asked you both here because there’s something we need to discuss. As you know, the ’Spring’ project is our major theme project for the Spring season, but the situation has changed a bit. The newly hired French designer, Olivier, has had his fiancée get into a car accident, and he needs to stay in his country to care for her. Consequently, he definitely won’t be able to come to China in the short term.”

Speaking to this point, Chen Jiayan paused, looked at the reactions of Zhang Wei and Lu Yuhan, and continued, ”In response to this, I have drafted two solutions. Option one: Olivier will remain in France, and we will maintain communication with him through online methods. Option two: hire a new designer. However, considering that the ’Spring’ project is a Spring theme, time is indeed tight.”

After Chen Jiayan finished speaking, she waited for Zhang Wei and Lu Yuhan to make a decision. Zhang Wei pondered for a moment and tried asking, ”How about letting Olivier and his fiancée come to China together? We can find a nanny to take care of her.”

Hearing this, Chen Jiayan shook her head helplessly. ”His fiancée has a comminuted fracture in her leg; the situation is quite serious. Besides, you know the French—they are incredibly devoted and persistent when it comes to love. At a time like this, it’s impossible for him to leave her.”

”Then is there a suitable candidate for option two?” Zhang Wei followed up.

Chen Jiayan picked up the documents on the table and turned a page. ”I contacted a few friends in the industry, and they recommended several designers. Look at this Wang Xueli. Her design style blends Eastern aesthetics and Western craftsmanship perfectly. I think she is particularly suited for our ’Spring’ theme.”

Zhang Wei immediately asked, ”Have you contacted her? What did she say?”

Chen Jiayan said, ”Wang Xueli is quite interested in this project. However, she has been collaborating with a foreign luxury brand since the year before last. The good news is their collaboration just expired; the bad news is she has to accompany her husband to the United States for surgery, which will take two months.” After saying this, Chen Jiayan sighed.

Zhang Wei frowned. ”Can’t this surgery be done here in China?”

Chen Jiayan shook her head. ”Wang Xueli specifically requested the heart specialist in the United States, Professor Vincent.”

Zhang Wei was unwilling to give up. ”What about other designers? Are there no more suitable ones?”

Chen Jiayan spread her hands. ”After looking at so many, she is the most suitable. The others are just... mediocre.”

Neither of them spoke for a moment, and the atmosphere was a bit heavy. At this time, Lu Yuhan, who had been playing with her phone on the side, suddenly looked up and asked curiously, ”Is the world-renowned heart specialist Carol Vincent the one on the right in this photo?”
