216: Chapter 216 Something Happened at Wang Xiaohua’s Family”Old Liu, it’s bad news. My older brother got into a fight and hurt someone!” Wang Xiaohua’s voice was filled with urgency.

Liu Haorui’s heart sank. He quickly tried to comfort her, ”Xiao Hua, don’t panic. How’s our brother doing now?”

Wang Xiaohua sobbed as she spoke, ”My brother is injured too, but the other person is hurt worse. They’re in the hospital emergency room right now. The doctor says they need surgery immediately, and their family is demanding 300,000 in compensation...”

Upon hearing this, Liu Haorui fell silent for a moment before replying, ”Xiao Hua, don’t worry. I’ll transfer the money to you right away. You stay at the hospital. I’ll get there as soon as I can.”

After hanging up, Liu Haorui turned to Zhang Wei and said, ”Old Zhang, something’s happened at Xiao Hua’s place. I need to head to X City Name right away.”

Zhang Wei immediately grew concerned. ”What exactly happened at Xiao Hua’s? If there’s anything I can do to help, just say the word.”

Liu Haorui shook his head. ”No need. I’ll go check on the situation first. We’ll meet up in Sheng Hai later and catch up then.”

Zhang Wei nodded. ”Alright. Be careful on the road. If you need anything, call me anytime.”

Without further delay, Liu Haorui hastily bid Zhang Wei farewell, hailed a taxi, and rushed straight to the high-speed rail station.

In the taxi, he kept making calls on his phone, arranging the money transfer and asking Wang Xiaohua for the hospital’s specific location and details.

And so, with an anxious heart, Liu Haorui boarded the train back to Sheng Hai.

Sunlight stealthily slipped through the gaps in the curtains, spreading a golden carpet across the living room floor of Jiangnan Garden. The light danced in patches on the floorboards. Zhang Wei sat leisurely on the sofa, gently handling the jewelry and antiques he had just acquired from J City Name and T City Name, his eyes full of appreciation.

He arranged those treasures one by one on the living room coffee table. Instantly, the entire table transformed into a miniature exhibition stand for precious items.

At that moment, An Xiaoxi came skipping over, her eyes immediately captivated by the dazzling jewelry.

”Wow, these pieces are so beautiful!” An Xiaoxi’s eyes lit up instantly, as if she had discovered a new world. Especially when she saw the glass-like imperial jadeite necklace, she directly put it around her own neck, ran to the bathroom, and admired herself in the mirror from every angle, utterly enchanted.

Zhang Wei watched her delighted expression and smiled helplessly. ”Little girl, do you like it that much?”

An Xiaoxi spun around proudly, laughing, ”Isn’t it lovely? Does it suit me?”

Zhang Wei shook his head, saying with affection, ”You Little girl, I really don’t know what to do with you.” As he spoke, he picked up a pair of gold earrings inlaid with eastern pearls and handed them to An Xiaoxi. ”Take a look at these earrings. What do you think?”

An Xiaoxi took the earrings and examined them carefully. ”They’re pretty. Too bad I don’t have my ears pierced.”

While scrolling through information about eastern pearls on his phone, Zhang Wei explained to An Xiaoxi, ”eastern pearls were treasures during the Qing Dynasty, considered the finest pearls of that time, and were highly favored by the Manchu people. Back then, Manchu women wore three earrings in one ear.”

An Xiaoxi listened and nodded. ”Oh.”

Zhang Wei pretended to be heartbroken. ”Just an ’oh’? Little rich lady, have you already outgrown these earrings?”

An Xiaoxi giggled playfully. ”Are they as nice as the necklace around my neck? But these bracelets of yours aren’t bad either.” As she spoke, she reached out, picked up the bracelets, held them up to the light, squinted her eyes, and admired them closely.

”Hey, Zhang Wei, where did you get all these treasures?” An Xiaoxi asked curiously.

So, Zhang Wei told An Xiaoxi all about his trip to the Water Park. After listening, An Xiaoxi’s eyes sparkled. ”So that’s it, Zhang Wei! So that’s what you were up to when you disappeared for half a day. You know, Sister Yuhan was really worried when she couldn’t find you.”

Mentioning Lu Yuhan, Zhang Wei’s expression became somewhat complicated. He fell silent for a moment, unsure how to define his relationship with Lu Yuhan. He sighed and changed the subject. ”I wonder how Liu Haorui is doing. I haven’t heard from him in days.”

An Xiaoxi asked with concern, ”What’s wrong? Did something happen to him?”

Zhang Wei sighed, his brow furrowed. ”Wang Xiaohua’s older brother has really gotten into big trouble this time. He beat someone up, and they’re still in the hospital. Maybe you should give Xiao Hua a call and see how she’s doing?”

Upon hearing this, An Xiaoxi immediately nodded, pulled out her phone, and dialed Wang Xiaohua’s number. ”Sister Xiao Hua, how are you guys doing now?”

On the other end of the line, before Wang Xiaohua could even speak, An Xiaoxi heard a loud *clang*, like a phone hitting the floor, followed immediately by a chaotic mix of shouting and scuffling sounds, with Liu Haorui’s angry yells mixed in.

An Xiaoxi’s heart skipped a beat, her intuition screaming that something was wrong. Within seconds, the call was disconnected. Her face changed, and she said anxiously, ”Zhang Wei, something must have happened to Liu Haorui and the others!”

An Xiaoxi quickly recounted the situation to Zhang Wei. Hearing it, Zhang Wei also felt that the trouble with Wang Xiaohua’s older brother had likely escalated beyond their control.

Neither of them dared to waste time. Zhang Wei quickly got Wang Xiaohua’s home address from Chen Jiayan and drove there with An Xiaoxi. On the way, An Xiaoxi kept silently repeating to herself, ”I hope they’re all okay. I hope they’re all okay.”

By the time they arrived at Wang Xiaohua’s home, the sky had already darkened. Zhang Wei stepped forward and knocked on the door. It opened quickly. Wang Xiaohua appeared before them, her face frighteningly pale, her eyes filled with terror.

”You... what are you doing here?” Wang Xiaohua’s voice trembled.

Zhang Wei and An Xiaoxi exchanged a glance, their hearts growing even more certain that the situation was bad. Zhang Wei asked in a grave tone, ”Xiao Hua, what exactly happened? Where’s Old Liu? Why isn’t he with you?”

Wang Xiaohua sighed and invited them inside. The room was in disarray, clearly the scene of a fierce argument. Wang Xiaohua sat on the sofa, a note of despair in her voice. ”Old Liu was taken away by the police. He... he got into a fight with someone to protect my sister-in-law.”

Hearing this, Zhang Wei nodded and asked with concern, ”Xiao Hua, what exactly happened?”

Liu Xiao Hua sighed and began recounting the whole story. ”It all started with Wang Xiaohua’s biological older brother, Wang Xiaolong. After graduating from technical school, he started working at a relatively large Taiwanese-funded factory here in our local area. There, he met Hong Minmin, who had come to X City Name from out of town for work. They hit it off and quickly got together. Last year, they decided to get married and returned together to Hong Minmin’s hometown. Who would have thought that trip would lead to all this trouble.”
