Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Before they left the master bedroom, Sierra Sullivan had packed Nathan Thorne’s backpack to the brim!

There was so much food and drink, it would have been enough to last even two more grown men for a whole day.

But how long had it even been?

Nathan Thorne had already eaten it all!

It wasn’t that Sierra Sullivan was reluctant to part with the food.

She was just wondering if eating so much in such a short time was putting too great a strain on his body.

Was he really going to be okay doing this?

As Sierra Sullivan pulled all sorts of food from her space and handed it to Nathan Thorne, she asked, ”Will you be alright eating like this? Won’t there be any problems?”

Nathan Thorne untied a plastic bag containing two meat buns, each larger than his fist.

He opened his mouth wide and took a bite, devouring a third of a bun in one go.

The bite was so large that his cheeks were stuffed to bursting.

But even so, he struggled to answer Sierra Sullivan’s question. ”I’m... fi... I’m... fine...”

He spoke with great difficulty.

And Sierra Sullivan had just as much difficulty understanding him.

Sierra Sullivan waved her hand. ”Don’t worry about talking. Just hurry up and eat. You can talk when you’re done!”

Only then did Nathan Thorne grin at Sierra Sullivan before starting to wolf down the buns.

Dominic Crawford was watching Nathan Thorne unconsciously, and after a moment, he suddenly swallowed hard.

”That looks so good! Watching Nathan Thorne eat like that makes it look so delicious! I’m getting a little hungry myself!”

Before anyone could say anything, Dominic Crawford corrected himself.

”No! That’s not right! I’m not hungry! I’m just craving it!”

Sierra Sullivan nodded in deep agreement. ”You’re right, Mr. Crawford. It’s not just you; watching Nathan Thorne eat like this is making me crave it, too. If this were before, Nathan could have definitely been a mukbang streamer! And he wouldn’t even have to fake-eat or purge. He has the perfect constitution for it!”

In the time it took for them to say this, Nathan Thorne had already finished both large meat buns.

With something in his stomach, Nathan Thorne’s heart wasn’t pounding with panic anymore. He looked up, a resentful expression on his face.

”You think I enjoy this? You can have this ’perfect constitution’ if you want it!”

Hearing this, everyone shook their heads in unison.

No thanks!

They didn’t want it in the slightest!

Although having three Superpowers sounded really cool.

And in some respects, possessing a Three-System Superpower was indeed a great thing.

But when they thought about it carefully, they knew it wasn’t good at all.

Just the aftereffects of using the Superpower—the complete exhaustion, the heart palpitations, trembling hands, deathly pale face, the feeling of being on the verge of death—was not something any of them wanted to experience.

Not to mention the sheer amount of food he had to eat!

This wasn’t like before the apocalypse, where you could just buy whatever you wanted to eat.

Even though they were Superpower Users, the amount of food that people like them could obtain was extremely limited.

Unless you were like Jayce and could awaken a Plant System Superpower.

But how could it be that easy?

The odds were just too low!

Nathan Thorne could eat like this without any pressure right now because Sierra Sullivan was there to provide him with food at any time.

If it were someone else, someone without so much food, they would probably starve to death before they could even enjoy the benefits of having a Three-System Superpower.

Sierra Sullivan herself didn’t lack food.

But she had no desire to become a Three-System Superpower User either.

The reason was simple: she didn’t want to have to eat in such a desperate, frantic manner.

Nathan Thorne started eating again, his movements looking somewhat mechanical.

For the current Nathan Thorne, it was difficult to enjoy the delicious taste of anything, no matter how good it was.

Nathan Thorne finished two more buns, then let out a long sigh. ”If I don’t descend into hell, who will?”

Although he said it in a self-deprecating way, there was a hint of that sentiment in his tone.

Dominic Crawford raised a hand and patted his shoulder. ”When Heaven is about to confer a great responsibility upon a man—”

”Alright, alright!” Nathan Thorne quickly cut Dominic Crawford off. ”Don’t feed me any of your inspirational quotes! It’s a little sickening!”

Dominic Crawford laughed heartily. ”Fine! Then I won’t say another word! Let’s move out! We’re heading back to the base right now!”

Dominic Crawford went to drive the car, and another person who often partnered with him got into the passenger seat.

Because it was difficult to get their bearings, the person took out a compass.

They first located the direction of the base, then began to move forward slowly based on their prior memory of the roads.

The wind was still howling, blowing in from all directions and battering their vehicle.

Fortunately, the vehicle had been modified. Its body was heavier, so while it was gently rocked by the wind, its forward progress wasn’t affected.

It was just moving a little slower, that’s all.

But compared to when they were walking on foot, feeling their way forward bit by bit, the current situation was a vast improvement.

After eating for more than ten minutes, Nathan Thorne finally stopped.

He only rested for a short while before he began to absorb Crystal Cores to recover his Superpower.

It wasn’t just Nathan Thorne; Sierra Sullivan, Jayce, and the others were all doing the same thing.

They weren’t sure what they would encounter up ahead, so their only choice was to recover their Superpowers as quickly as possible and face whatever might happen in peak condition.

The car wasn’t moving fast; it took a good ten-plus minutes to finally leave the residential complex.

On the top floor of a building within the complex.

A thin, gaunt figure stood by the window.

Even though there was nothing but endless wind and sand outside the window, the figure stared intently in the direction Sierra Sullivan and her group had gone.

It was as if its gaze could pierce through the sandstorm and see everything clearly.

”Just like that... you let them... go?”

A hoarse voice echoed from a corner of the room.

The gaunt figure didn’t move or give any reply. The room fell into an eerie silence.

After a long time, the gaunt figure finally stirred.

”No rush. We’ll meet again.”

This voice was even more grating, like static.

If anyone had heard it, they would have felt a sharp pain in their eardrums.

But the figure in the corner seemed to feel nothing, even cracking a grin. ”You’re... right... We’ll... meet... eventually... heheh...”

Back in the car, having recovered his Superpower and energy, Nathan Thorne got busy again.

In his words, since he had nothing better to do, he might as well treat the three injured passengers in the car again.

Healing them sooner would also boost their combat effectiveness.

Sierra Sullivan thought this made sense, so she didn’t stop him.

Watching the thin layer of sweat slowly form on Nathan Thorne’s forehead, Sierra Sullivan rested her head on Jayce’s shoulder. ”Seeing him like this now, he’s a completely different person compared to when we first met.”

”Yeah,” Jayce sighed in agreement. ”People always grow.”

It’s just that the price of growth is sometimes very steep.

Sierra Sullivan gazed out the window. ”I wonder how Candice Tate is doing now. We’ve been gone for so many days; she must be worried sick about us.”

The little girl was very attached to her; she wondered if she was crying her eyes out.

The more she thought about it, the more melancholic Sierra Sullivan became, and the more her heart ached to return.

At that same moment, in a vast room deep beneath the Red Sun Base, Candice Tate sat all alone on the floor. Tears hung in the corners of her eyes, but she was still endlessly forcing plants to grow.

She was exhausted and desperately wanted to sleep, but she couldn’t stop.

She had to keep going!

She had to hold on until her big sister came back!
