Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

”Since you’re all so sincere, and given our relationship, I won’t hold it against you anymore!”

”However! There are a few things I haven’t had the chance to say yet!”

”It’s not like just anyone can come with me! They have their own requirements!”

As soon as the man said this, the crowd grew tense.

”What do you mean there are requirements?”

”Didn’t you just say anyone could go?”

”Yeah! What are the requirements? Just tell us already!”

The man didn’t rush to speak. He just waited quietly until the crowd settled down before saying, ”I didn’t get to finish what I was saying. I never said everyone could go! You all know how precious Crystal Cores are. At least for now, it’s impossible to awaken a Superpower in every single person!”

That was, indeed, the truth.

The survivors, who had been a little unhappy just a moment ago, nodded in agreement after hearing this.

Seeing they had been convinced, the man finally smiled.

”I knew everyone would understand. I only have twenty spots available! First come, first served!”

”But I still want to remind everyone that although the risk is much lower now, it’s not like there’s no danger at all. I suggest that those in better physical condition come with me. Otherwise, if something were to go wrong... you don’t want to see that kind of scene, and neither do I!”

Sierra Sullivan had watched the whole thing from start to finish. Hearing his speech now, she couldn’t help but applaud the man in her mind.

’This man is a real pro!’

’You can tell this isn’t his first time doing something like this!’

’Not only is he a veteran, but he also has a firm grasp on human psychology.’

After all his back-and-forth, the crowd was already completely convinced by his words.

Not only did they not suspect his intentions or purpose, but they even felt he was being thoughtful and considerate.

Sierra Sullivan could clearly hear some people already discussing who among them would be the best choice to go and awaken their Superpower.

The man wasn’t in a hurry; he just waited quietly.

Although his expression was hidden, you could tell from his eyes that he was feeling smug and triumphant.

In a way, leading so many people around by the nose was indeed something to be excited about.

Sierra Sullivan tugged on Jayce’s sleeve.

After exchanging a look, the two of them walked toward the man together.

Jayce lifted his chin at the man. ”Can you really help us awaken Superpowers? This isn’t a scam, is it?”

When the man saw Jayce, his eyes instantly lit up.

Although Jayce was also wrapped up tightly, you could tell from his gaze, the skin around his eyes, and the powerful resonance of his voice when he spoke that he was very healthy and in great physical shape!

’Healthy is good!’

’Connor Kane’s people make the best test subjects!’

’Maybe he can even endure a few more experiments!’

’As long as I can bring someone like this back, the reward will definitely be huge!’

The man was ecstatic, his voice trembling slightly as he spoke.

”Of course you can! I can tell you’re very healthy just by looking at you! For a strong young man like you, awakening a Superpower will be a total breeze!”

Jayce snorted. ”You make it sound better than a song! Fine! I’ll trust you this once! Both of us are going!”

”Both of you?”

The man seemed to only just notice Sierra Sullivan’s presence.

After a casual glance at Sierra Sullivan, he agreed without any hesitation.

”Sure!”

’As long as one of them is healthy, that’s good enough!’

’It doesn’t matter what the other one is like!’

’Even if her body is weak, she can be a one-time disposable. It’s not a loss.’

With Sierra Sullivan and Jayce signed up, others soon came forward.

Without exception, all who signed up were in relatively good physical shape.

Looking at these people, the man couldn’t have been more excited.

”Alright! Trust me, everyone! I definitely won’t let you down!”

”Opportunity knocks but once! Let’s not waste any more time. Let’s go now!”

The eighteen people besides Sierra Sullivan and Jayce grew incredibly excited upon hearing the man’s words.

They were about to become Superpower Users too!

Just the thought of it was thrilling!

Led by the man, the group walked through the underground parking garage for over twenty minutes before finally entering the stairwell of Building 10.

Sierra Sullivan raised an eyebrow.

’So it’s in Building 10!’

’If I remember correctly, Hugo Cheney and his father live in Building 10, don’t they?’

’Looks like my earlier suspicions were spot on!’

’This really is connected to Hugo Cheney and his father!’

As she walked up the stairs, Sierra Sullivan was surprised to find that the stairwell of Building 10 was unusually clean.

It wasn’t that there was no sand.

In the current environment, sand could still get into even the most well-sealed rooms.

A place like a stairwell was, of course, no exception.

When Sierra Sullivan said ”clean,” she meant there were no people.

Sierra Sullivan didn’t know what the situation was like in the other buildings.

But in the building she lived in, the stairwell was packed with people.

Yet now, the stairwell of Building 10 was completely empty!

With so many survivors in the base that there was no way to properly house them all, how could this building’s stairwell be completely empty?

This in itself was a very strange thing.

Sierra Sullivan wasn’t the only one who found it strange.

While Sierra Sullivan was just wondering about it in her head, the others had already voiced their confusion.

”How come there’s no one in this building’s stairwell?”

”Yeah! How is the environment in this building so good?”

Faced with these questions, the man showed no signs of panic and just kept smiling cheerfully.

”There’s a reason this building is so quiet! You see, quite a few Superpower Users live in this building! To ensure these Superpower Users have a comfortable living environment, no one is allowed to live in the stairwells!”

”It’s an order from Commander Cheney!”

”If you can become Superpower Users, you can also have your own rooms in this building. Not just you, but your families can move in with you too.”

The group, which had just been feeling that something was off, all grew excited after hearing the man’s words.

Doubts? Suspicions? Questions?

They vanished!

Now, they were filled with nothing but anticipation!

They were anticipating becoming Superpower Users themselves and successfully moving in!

They walked up the stairs, continuing all the way to the sixteenth floor before finally stopping.

If not for the fact that climbing stairs had become the norm after the apocalypse, some of them probably wouldn’t have been able to make it up in one go.

Even though they had all made it up now, several people were panting and out of breath.

The man paid them no mind, stepping forward to knock on the door of 1601.

A moment later, the door opened.

The person who opened the door was wearing a white lab coat and glasses.

He perfectly fit Sierra Sullivan’s stereotype of a researcher.

”You’re here? Come on in!”

The man in the white coat stepped aside, and the recruiter walked in first.

The others filed in after him, their eyes filled with novelty and excitement.
