Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Although it was her first time doing something like this, once she overcame the mental hurdle, it wasn’t too difficult.

The fire produced by a Superpower User was different from a normal fire.

The temperature was higher, and it burned more intensely.

The body was placed on the tile floor, and in just over ten minutes, it was completely reduced to ash.

Sierra Sullivan had already prepared an urn. She helped the little girl gather the ashes and carefully placed them inside.

Luckily, the urn was large enough; otherwise, it probably wouldn’t have all fit.

For such a small girl, a large urn filled to the brim was quite heavy.

Sierra Sullivan had wanted to help her carry it, but the girl firmly refused.

”I can do it myself.”

The little girl’s expression was determined, and her tone was exceptionally serious.

Seeing her insistence, Sierra Sullivan didn’t argue, simply staying close by, ready to take the urn if she needed help.

But soon, Sierra Sullivan discovered that she was worrying for nothing.

The little girl actually held the urn in her arms, and with surprising ease.

That kind of strength wasn’t something a child her age should have.

There had been many other things that didn’t add up, but Sierra Sullivan hadn’t had time to dwell on them before.

Thinking back now, the things that struck Sierra Sullivan as strange were indeed piling up.

The little girl’s mother had been dead for at least a week. So how had the girl managed to survive this past week?

’What did she eat?’

’What did she drink?’

Sierra Sullivan slowly crouched down, making her voice as gentle as possible to avoid startling the girl. ”What’s your name? I don’t believe I’ve learned it yet.”

”Candice Tate.”

Sierra Sullivan paused for a moment. ”That’s a very sweet-sounding name.”

”Mommy said ’Candice’ comes from ’candy.’”

Although Candice Tate’s voice was still a little hoarse, she spoke much more fluently than before.

You could tell that Candice Tate must have been a very cute and talkative child.

It was only because of what she had recently experienced that she had clammed up.

Now that Sierra Sullivan was asking her questions, she was slowly starting to open up again.

”You’re so smart, Candice Tate!” Sierra Sullivan praised with a smile. ”To remember that so clearly! So, Candice Tate, can you tell me what you’ve been eating lately?”

”Grass.”

”Huh?”

”Eating grass!”

As she spoke, Candice Tate took out a few grains of wheat from the small satchel she was wearing.

The next moment, a green light shone from Candice Tate’s palm.

The few grains of wheat quickly sprouted, growing into palm-length wheatgrass.

”I eat this!” Candice Tate explained.

Sierra Sullivan stared at the scene before her, momentarily speechless.

Candice Tate didn’t know what wheatgrass was; she just thought it was grass.

It was hard to imagine how a child so young could have survived for so many days on nothing but wheatgrass.

Of course, the most surprising thing was that Candice Tate was a Superpower User.

A very rare Wood Ability User!

’But didn’t Candice Tate’s mother know about this?’

”Candice Tate, when did you...” Sierra Sullivan searched for the right words. ”When were you first able to make this wheatgrass appear?”

”After Mommy stopped responding to me.” Candice Tate’s voice clearly fell, and she lowered her little head. ”Mommy put all the seeds in my little bag and told me to eat one if I got hungry. After that... Mommy stopped responding. Later, I was holding a seed, and it suddenly sprouted and grew into grass.”

After all, she was just a child of five or six. She had never known about things like Superpowers before, so naturally, she couldn’t explain it clearly.

The fact that Candice Tate could explain it this well was already a pleasant surprise for Sierra Sullivan.

It might not have sounded very clear at first, but if you thought about it carefully, you’d realize she had explained the entire cause and effect.

To be able to explain it so clearly was already incredible.

From this, one could deduce that Candice Tate’s Superpower must have appeared—or rather, been discovered—only after her mother died.

But delving into that now was pointless.

The dead were gone; the living were what mattered most.

”Candice Tate, do you have any other relatives?” Sierra Sullivan continued to ask.

”It was just me and Mommy here.”

”What about your grandparents?”

”Mommy said they’re in Belvoir.”

Sierra Sullivan fell silent.

Before the apocalypse, getting from here to Belvoir would have only taken a few hours by high-speed rail.

But now, trying to get to Belvoir was next to impossible.

Although Candice Tate was a Superpower User, she was only five years old. Her future arrangements would require careful consideration.

But that was all something to worry about after returning to the base.

Sierra Sullivan didn’t dwell on it. She opened her backpack, took out a carton of milk and a package of bread, and handed them to Candice Tate.

”You must be hungry, Candice Tate. Have something to eat.”

Candice Tate’s eyes lit up instantly, and she swallowed hard.

”Thank you, Miss!”

”Good girl. Go on, eat.”

Sierra Sullivan tore open the bread package for her before handing it over.

Candice Tate held the urn in one arm and the bread in the other, taking huge bites.

With every bite, she opened her mouth as wide as possible, stuffing it so full that her cheeks puffed out like a little hamster.

It was cute, but more than that, it was pitiful.

Sierra Sullivan didn’t tell her to slow down. She just poked a straw into the milk carton and handed it over, letting her take a couple of sips.

The bread didn’t look small, but it was gone in a flash.

After she finished the bread and the carton of milk, the craving for food in Candice Tate’s eyes didn’t fade. In fact, it grew even stronger than before.

Sierra Sullivan knew she wanted more, but it wasn’t a good idea right now.

For someone who had been starving for a long time, suddenly eating too much would put a huge strain on her body and hurt her stomach.

”Candice Tate, let’s not eat any more for now. I’ll make you some noodles for lunch, okay?”

Candice Tate swallowed again, but instead of crying or making a fuss, she nodded obediently.

The more obedient Candice Tate was, the heavier Sierra Sullivan’s heart grew.

Although Sierra Sullivan knew that in the apocalypse, a child with Candice Tate’s personality had a better chance of survival.

But knowing that was one thing.

Feeling heartbroken was another.

”Sierra, we should get going.”

Hearing Jayce’s voice, Sierra Sullivan immediately composed herself.

”Okay!”

’We’ve definitely been here too long!’

”Candice Tate, let me carry you downstairs, okay? Is there anything else you need to bring?”

Before Candice Tate could answer, Sierra Sullivan went to find a suitcase herself.

’She didn’t have any children’s clothes or supplies in her dimensional space.’

’I have to pack everything Candice Tate will need!’

Fortunately, Sierra Sullivan quickly found two large suitcases.

When she entered the child’s bedroom, Sierra Sullivan’s eyes immediately welled up.

It was a princess-themed room.

Just from the decorations and furniture, you could tell it had been put together with a great deal of love and care.

Sierra Sullivan blinked, easing the stinging in her eyes, before she started packing Candice Tate’s clothes into the suitcases.
