Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

”I know it’s dangerous outside.” Jayce’s expression didn’t change. ”But it’s dangerous for everyone.”

Kevin Everett was taken aback by his words, then seemed about to say something but stopped himself.

Jayce didn’t wait for him to speak and continued, ”Dad, I’m not some selfless person who sacrifices himself for others. It’s just that if they can’t hold the line downstairs, those of us up here will become sitting ducks. Won’t we be in an even worse position then?”

This time, Kevin Everett couldn’t find any words to object.

Even if he didn’t want to admit it, he had to: Jayce had a very good point.

”Fine! Then you two go! Candice Tate can stay here. Your mom will look after her, so don’t worry. You two be careful.”

Kevin Everett looked deeply at Jayce and Sierra Sullivan. ”You have to come back safe and sound!”

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce nodded, said nothing more, and turned to leave.

Watching their departing figures, a glint of tears appeared in Kevin Everett’s eyes.

But he was a reserved and steady man.

He knew very well that now was not the time to be sentimental.

Before anyone could notice the moisture in his eyes, he blinked gently, suppressing all the emotion and returning to his usual composure.

Kevin Everett looked over at Candice Tate and saw that she had already run to the window, where she was pressed against the glass, looking down.

From her actions alone, it was clear she wanted to see Jayce and Sierra Sullivan.

But with the yellow sand filling the sky and blocking out the sun, it was impossible to see anything. Her efforts were futile.

Kevin Everett sighed silently but didn’t stop her.

Even if she couldn’t see a thing, it was the only thing Candice Tate could do right now. There was no need to interfere.

Yvonne Shelby came over, sat down next to Kevin Everett, and let out a long sigh. ”When will these days ever end!”

’How did our good life end up like this!’

Kevin Everett’s gaze grew determined. ”Thinking about that now is useless! With this time, we’d be better off thinking about how to get stronger!”

Having lived together for decades, they knew each other extremely well.

Just from hearing his words, Yvonne Shelby immediately sensed his intentions.

”No!” Yvonne Shelby’s voice was incredibly firm, leaving no room for argument. ”You can’t go try to awaken a Superpower! You’re at an age where your health isn’t great to begin with! What if something happens?”

”It’s not like accidents are that common. There are people my age who have successfully awakened...”

”Don’t try to fool me! Don’t you know in your heart whether more people succeed in awakening or more people fail?” Yvonne Shelby directly exposed his well-intentioned lie. ”Besides, it’s not like only Superpower Users are useful. Someone has to stay in the rear to coordinate and plan! Mr. Everett, people should do what they’re good at, not force themselves into difficult situations! Even if you did awaken a Superpower and could go kill Aberrant Beasts, how many could you actually kill? Would the contribution you make really be greater than what you do now?”

Yvonne Shelby spoke earnestly, and every single word struck a chord with Kevin Everett.

In fact, how could Kevin Everett not understand what Yvonne Shelby was saying?

He had just gotten fixated on the idea.

He was just seeing red with anger at these Aberrant Beasts.

He wanted to fight them to the death.

Now, listening to Yvonne Shelby’s words, his impulsiveness gradually faded, and he calmed down.

Kevin Everett took Yvonne Shelby’s hand. ”Thank you, Yvonne.”

Yvonne Shelby’s cheeks flushed red. She instinctively glanced in Candice Tate’s direction, but she didn’t pull her hand back.

Seeing that Candice Tate was still pressed against the glass looking outside and hadn’t turned around, Yvonne Shelby secretly breathed a sigh of relief and shot Kevin Everett a mock-reproachful look.

”Honestly, at our age, and you’re still pulling these tricks!”

Her tone was reproachful, but she couldn’t hide the smile at the corners of her mouth.

...

「First Floor.」

「Building Entrance.」

Dominic Crawford and a few other Superpower Users were guarding the entrance, both inside and out.

As soon as an Aberrant Beast got close, they would immediately cut it down.

When the Superpower Users outside were exhausted, they would quickly swap out, come back inside, and use Crystal Cores to recover.

But the number of Superpower Users was limited, while the Aberrant Beasts were endless.

Before the Superpower Users inside could fully recover, the ones outside had already exhausted their Superpowers.

They could only swap again.

In this way, both their Superpowers and their mental fortitude were being heavily drained.

When Sierra Sullivan and Jayce arrived, they saw that the few Superpower Users inside the building entrance were all looking excessively pale.

Dominic Crawford had just turned around when he saw Sierra Sullivan and Jayce. He was a bit stunned. ”Why are you two down here? It’s dangerous outside—”

”What kind of thing is that to say! If it weren’t dangerous, we wouldn’t have come!”

Although Jayce’s face was covered up tightly, you could tell from his voice that he was smiling.

This was very Jayce.

There was no mockery or contempt, just pure confidence and pride.

Before Dominic Crawford could say anything else, Jayce had already walked to the doorway and said to the people outside, ”All of you, come in!”

Sierra Sullivan walked over too. ”Get some rest and recover! Leave the rest to us.”

It wasn’t their first time working together.

Everyone was well aware of Jayce’s and Sierra Sullivan’s abilities.

Seeing Jayce and Sierra Sullivan move to the front and begin slaughtering Aberrant Beasts on a massive scale, the others didn’t try to hold on any longer and quickly retreated inside the building entrance.

Dominic Crawford had wanted to persevere a little longer, but Jayce stopped him.

”Captain Crawford, with the two of us here, there isn’t much you can do to help. No need to waste your Superpower. You should go back, rest up, and recover. You can join them later!”

If anyone else had said such a thing, it would have made people feel uncomfortable.

But for some reason, when Jayce said it, it wasn’t unpleasant at all.

”Alright!”

Dominic Crawford answered in a clear voice.

”Then I’ll leave it to you!”

Dominic Crawford retreated and closed the building door.

The sandstorm was too strong. If they didn’t close the door, the survivors in the stairwell would suffer!

At this point, Sierra Sullivan could no longer pay any attention to Dominic Crawford and the others.

Her eyes were filled with nothing but the endless stream of Aberrant Beasts.

Because the sandstorm was so thick, her vision was obstructed, and she couldn’t see where these Aberrant Beasts were coming from at all.

They seemed to appear out of thin air, suddenly lunging at her.

She had to concentrate completely to kill them before they could reach her.

The longer she used her Superpower, the more adept she became.

Now, Sierra Sullivan, like Jayce, could condense sand and dirt into arrows. A single shot through the heart—clean, efficient, and lethal.

At first, her aim wasn’t very good.

But after a few tries, she became perfectly accurate.

’No wonder Jayce always likes using arrows. Not only are they effective, they’re also incredibly satisfying!’

Behind the building door.

Dominic Crawford had already recovered and was now pressed against the glass, looking outside.

Watching Sierra Sullivan and Jayce’s ferocious slaughter, his eyes went wide.

Strong!

They were just too strong!
