Help! The Villainess Trapped in the Beast World's Drama!

Chapter 61: Chapter 55: Ways to Make Money

Gu Lian still hasn’t been able to wait for Jia Lan’s plea for mercy, so angry that her lungs were about to explode, her nails fiercely dug into her palm, the venomous resentment on her face twisted like a sinister snake.

That damned fat woman better watch out; she dared to ruin my plans, she will pay a bitter price!

Malice flashed across Gu Lian’s beautiful face. Anyway, she was about to leave this forsaken place. A barefooted person doesn’t fear a shod one. Silently killing a female, by then the military wouldn’t be able to trace it back to her.

...

Shen Tang had just reached her door when a sound of something piercing through the air came from behind.

Her bloated and clumsy body had no chance to dodge, the sharp arrow aimed precisely at her heart!

If hit, death was inevitable, not even a god could save her!

But the anticipated scene of blood and gore did not appear. Just as the arrow was about to pierce her skin, it seemed to encounter some kind of barrier and was deflected, turning mid-air to pierce through the door.

The Beastman hidden behind a tree was utterly shocked; his archery skills were renowned in the city. He had aimed correctly, how could he not hit?

He quickly pulled the bow and notched another arrow, intending to try again.

No matter how lucky that fat woman is, she couldn’t possibly escape a second time.

A system alert sounded in Shen Tang’s mind, and she rapidly ran away from her spot, pulling the arrow from the door frame, then shouting towards the crowd gathering in front of her, ”Someone, come quickly! Someone is attempting to harm a female!”

The Beastmen nearby were alarmed by her cries for help and rushed over to gather around.

Shen Li happened to be patrolling nearby, the fiery sharp fox ears twitched as he heard the familiar shout. His brows knitted slightly, without time to think further, he swiftly led his team over.

Seeing the sharp arrow in Shen Tang’s hand, Shen Li’s face suddenly darkened. He ordered coldly, ”Surround this area!”

The Leopard Beast hiding in the dark turned pale with fear. He had barely made it to the point of leaving this hellish place, unwilling to end up in prison, he abandoned the assassination attempt on Shen Tang and fled like a shadow.

The patrol team of Beastmen were a step too slow to catch him, they only found discarded bows and arrows in the bushes.

Shen Li walked over, showing concern for Shen Tang, ”Are you injured anywhere?”

Though Shen Tang’s face was somewhat pale, she calmly shook her head, ”I’m fine. I’ve always been lucky, that guy missed me.”

Shen Li affectionately sighed, ”Xiao Tang, you certainly have a tough fate. Once, twice, all these people are targeting you. I’ll lead the team to investigate shortly, no matter how fast the culprit escapes, they can’t leave without some trace.”

Shen Tang thought to herself, isn’t it because of you guys attracting trouble, causing everyone to want her dead? If it weren’t for the defensive equipment awarded by the system, she would surely have been turned into a pincushion!

Though Shen Li was trying his best to comfort her, Shen Tang understood that the culprit used a handmade bow and arrow, obviously they came prepared, even surveillance would be hard to investigate, this matter was likely to end unresolved.

”Forget it, the culprit ran away so fast, it’s unlikely we’ll find them. They probably won’t have the guts to strike again.”

It was noon, also time for Shen Li to get off work and rest. Shen Tang with a strong sense of professionalism said, ”Do you want to stay for lunch?”

Seeing the female’s bright smile, a hint of surprise flashed in Shen Li’s eyes.

He wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but he felt Shen Tang’s teeth had become much straighter; previously crooked like a camel’s, now they looked clean and neat.

The sunlight spilled onto her, her chubby face smiling revealing her teeth, eyes curved like crescents, her appearance was plain and ordinary, yet faintly exuded a hint of fresh cuteness.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, Shen Li’s affinity +5!]

Hearing the sudden prompt from the system in her mind, Shen Tang looked up astonished at the red-haired man in front of her, his handsome and charming face still wearing a gentle and elegant smile, his long fox eyes glimmering with light, appearing more sincere than before.

”Xiao Tang has kindly invited me, it would be rude to refuse. I happened to hunt fresh deer meat yesterday but haven’t had time to eat it yet. Wait here; I’ll bring it over.”

”Alright.” Shen Tang nodded with a smile.

After a short while, Shen Li returned with a large piece of deer meat, the quality of the thawed meat was tender and translucent, mostly lean with little fat, perfect for someone on a diet.

This time Shen Li didn’t eat for free; he helped her carry the heavy meat into the kitchen and assisted with washing vegetables. After half an hour of busy work, they made a pot of fragrant and tender deer meat stew, devoured with pleasure and spice.

Having eaten his fill, Shen Li thought of the rumor he heard on the way — Shen Tang went to Jia Lan’s place at noon and stayed in his room for over an hour.

He knew Jia Lan was in heat, could it be that the two of them really...

For some reason, an inexplicable emotion flashed through Shen Li’s heart, a strange sense of irritation.

”Xiao Tang, this meat is tender and flavorful, really delicious. Deer meat is great for replenishing blood; you females should eat more.” Shen Li smilingly placed a big piece of meat into Shen Tang’s bowl. Seizing the opportunity while leaning close, he lowered his head and sniffed her, not smelling the fishy scent of a mermaid.

He secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Realizing the change in his own mood startled Shen Li slightly. He then turned his gaze back to Shen Tang, who was engrossed in eating. Needless to say, this female had become much prettier in recent days. Her personality was gentle and open, hardworking and capable, any male would naturally feel a liking towards her.

Shen Li didn’t think he genuinely liked Shen Tang, merely found her curious and likable; they had grown up together, treating her as a sort-of younger sister.

But he was still curious about what Shen Tang did during that hour in Jia Lan’s room.

Feigning ignorance, Shen Li asked curiously, ”Xiao Tang, I heard that you mated with Jia Lan?”

”Cough, cough, cough!” Shen Tang, eating enthusiastically, suddenly choked on his unexpected direct question.

”Eat slowly, don’t rush, nobody’s going to snatch it from you.” Shen Li patted her back, Shen Tang struggled to swallow the piece of meat in her mouth.

”Who said I mated with Jia Lan?”

”The Beastmen on the road said so; many saw you coming out of his room at noon.”

Shen Tang hurriedly shook her head, ”I didn’t; I was just providing him mental comfort, nothing else!”

After hearing her explanation, Shen Li was even more surprised. She dared drug Xiao Jin, yet during the Mermaid’s weakest heat period, she did only such an ”innocent” act, and nothing else?

Feeling the probing gaze of the man beside her like needles on her back, Shen Tang also realized that her actions didn’t quite fit the original character, quickly lower her head and poked her bowl with chopsticks, deflated, ”That Mermaid hates me so much, how would I dare do anything; otherwise he’d kill me when he wakes up!”

”Ha, that’s true.” Shen Li chuckled, still looking at her with a playful glint.

Feeling pressured under his gaze, Shen Tang decided to change the topic, ”I happen to have a big deal and would like you to help, are you interested?”

Shen Li raised his brows in surprise, ”Oh? What do you want me to do, Xiao Tang?”

Shen Tang smirked coldly, ”Revenge, and make a fortune!”
