From American Internet Celebrity to God Among Men

132: Chapter 132 Data, Imitation, and Dimensional ReductionIn New York, inside a shared recording studio converted from an old church in the West Side, the air was filled with the distinct scent of old wood, dust, and electronic equipment. There were no stage spotlights, no cheering crowds, only a few eye-protection lamps providing uniform lighting, and three cameras at different angles silently recording.

Alex sat on a high stool, with a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, and a guitar connected to countless effects pedals spread out before him. He wore a simple grey hoodie, his hair messy, looking more like a music student cramming for a project than the superstar who had made history in two top-tier venues just days ago.

This was the first live recording and broadcast of the ”City Soundscape Wanderer” series. The livestream title was plain and simple: ”Can the sounds of New York at 4 AM be turned into a song? Let’s find out.”

Ten minutes after the broadcast started, the number of online viewers stabilized at around 1.2 million. This couldn’t compare to the scale of hundreds of millions during his grand finale, but the activity in the interactive section was astonishingly high. Viewers were excitedly discussing the models of the effects pedals next to Alex, guessing how he would process the environmental audio just played, which had been recorded under the Brooklyn Bridge and was mixed with the sound of wind, distant sirens, and the mumbling of a homeless person.

”This sound, if sampled directly into a drum loop, would be too cluttered,” Alex said to the camera, his tone like he was sharing work tips with a friend. He dragged the audio waveform, pointing out a few sharp frequencies, ”But if we only extract this interval...” He operated the software, and a rhythmic loop with a metallic texture began to play. ”And then, layer this low frequency that sounds like a heartbeat...” Another processed sound was added. ”Then, give it some space, like this...”

He picked up his guitar and improvised a few melancholic notes with a bluesy feel, forming a wondrous dialogue with the electronic rhythm. The entire creative process was clearly visible, including the moments he shook his head in rejection of certain chords after a few attempts.

[Barrage]: ”He actually gets stuck! I thought geniuses just produced finished products directly!”

[Barrage]: ”This processing idea is so practical! I’ve learned it (not really).”

[Barrage]: ”The atmosphere is incredible, I feel like I can smell the fog and rust by the New York river.”

[Barrage]: ”More engaging than an MV, is this the charm of creation itself?”

Halfway through the stream, according to the ”accidental” plan, Taylor’s video window cut in. She seemed to be in the studio in her Los Angeles home, with bookshelves packed with sheet music in the background.

”Hey, didn’t interrupt your ’wandering’, did I?” Taylor greeted with a smile, naturally joining the discussion on ”how to capture the feeling of urban insomnia with music,” and shared her insights on how she handled the ”data rain” sound effects when scoring for city of instantaneity.

This low-key collaboration once again triggered a frenzy in the barrage and successfully directed some traffic to the upcoming final trailer for the movie. By the end of the stream, the musical segment Alex built in less than an hour, though rough, was full of raw experimental color and genuine emotional tension. He had no intention of releasing the finished product, just saved the project file, saying: ”Maybe it will become a small part of a future song, maybe not. That is the meaning of ’wandering’.”

The stream ended. Data was quickly fed back to Marcus:

· Average viewing duration reached an astonishing 41 minutes (far exceeding normal streams).

· The ”City Soundscape Wanderer” topic naturally trended in the New York area on Twitter.

· Within the ”Flashpoint” app, relevant discussion sections saw a 500% surge in new posts, and the number of users spontaneously uploading sound materials from their own cities increased sharply.

· A large number of user-made Remix versions based on the livestream segments appeared on audio platforms.

The strategy was beginning to show results. With a ”de-haloizing” practical demonstration, Alex successfully transformed part of his artist persona into an ”open-source creative process” that could be learned from, discussed, and even participated in. On the system interface, his available popularity welcomed another small wave of solid growth, accompanied by a prompt: [Series content has gained stable recognition, strategy execution + 1, Information Reception Filtering (Passive) efficiency slightly improved in non-combat/crisis environments.] The reward was small, but it verified the correctness of the path.

However, the tree craves stillness, but the wind will not cease.

Just four hours after the stream ended, Rex sent an emergency briefing.

”YouTube Music just officially announced a brand new project, ’Urban Soundscape Collector,’ the mode is too similar to our announced ’City Soundscape Wanderer.’ They invited three independent musicians to serve as ’curators’ and announced they will open platform APIs to encourage users to upload ambient sounds for AI-assisted music creation. The slogan is ’Let every street corner become your recording studio.’”

The briefing included detailed pages and promotional videos of the opposing project. Whether it was the concept, visual style, or the emphasis on ”ordinary people participating in creation,” it carried a blatant implication of imitation and sniping. More tricky was that, relying on YouTube’s massive user base and mature recommendation algorithms, once launched, it would form a crushing traffic coverage on the emerging new content field that ”Flashpoint” was building.

”Reaction is really fast.” Alex looked at the briefing in his hotel suite, with no expression of surprise on his face. This was almost an industry law: any new model verified to have potential would be quickly copied and amplified by platform giants, then crush the original creator with their scale advantage. ”Did you find any more specific connections? Summit Creative?”

”The project is led by a new product team at YouTube Music, but the head of this team had lunch with a strategic vice president from ’Summit Creative’ last week. Cannot prove direct instruction, but there is a connection.” Rex replied.

Business competition shifted from hidden sabotage to overt model replication and traffic crushing. This was a more conventional and more difficult challenge to deal with.

”Marcus, contact our PR and legal, prepare a statement, the tone is ’Welcome healthy competition, jointly explore new boundaries of sound creation,’ emphasizing the core of our model’s ’real process recording’ and ’deep community interaction,’ which is different from purely technology-driven AI creation, to avoid direct confrontation.” Alex ordered quickly, ”At the same time, let our ’Flashpoint’ algorithm team prioritize optimizing the sound material tagging system and creator matching function; we need to understand ’human’ creative intent better than their AI.”

”Understood. But we are at an absolute disadvantage in terms of traffic.” Marcus reminded.

”Then play on differentiation. They do ’large and comprehensive platform empowerment,’ we do ’small and beautiful deep connections.’” Alex’s thinking was clear, ”Launch the ’Wanderer Partner’ program. From the most active users with the most inspired works after the first stream, select ten, invite them (we will cover the costs) to New York for a three-day offline workshop. I, along with several producers we’ve signed, will work with them to co-create a complete piece using the sounds of New York. The whole process will also be documented in a documentary style and broadcast simultaneously on ’Voice of Truth’ and ’Flashpoint’.”

Marcus’s eyes lit up: ”Extend ’participation’ from online to offline, build core communities and benchmark cases! This can greatly enhance user belonging and the uniqueness of our model!”

”Exactly. And,” Alex revealed a hint of a smile, ”at the end of the workshop, we will officially hire these ten users as ’Flashpoint Sound Exploration Ambassadors,’ granting them certain content recommendation weight and community management permissions. They will no longer be simple users, but part of our ecosystem. Giants can copy models, but it is difficult to quickly copy this ’human connection’ built on real recognition and co-creation.”

This was a typical dimensionality reduction strike—using deep operations and emotional connection to counter traffic and algorithms. This required more energy and cost, but once the barrier was built, it would be more solid.

”Also,” Alex added, ”how is the editing progress of the documentary for the completion of the first healing space of ’Sound of Echoes’?”

”The rough cut is done, Taylor’s voice-over recording is excellent.”

”Very good. Contact several influential non-entertainment media, such as publications and video channels focusing on education, psychology, and urban culture, and offer exclusive early viewing or cooperative broadcasting opportunities. We want the influence of this project to jump out of the entertainment and fan circles and reach a wider group with more social discourse power.” Alex was arranging another front, ”At the same time, open a ’Sound and Memory’ essay contest on the ’Voice of Truth’ platform, encouraging users to share stories of how music changed their emotions. Excellent works can receive small grants from the fund or be included in the ’Sound Library’ of the healing space.”

Multiple fronts, advancing simultaneously. Some dealing with competition, some consolidating foundations, some expanding boundaries. All these actions revolved around one core: to infiltrate the influence of ”Alex Su” into more concrete and stable areas in a long-term, steady manner.

A few days later, YouTube’s ”Urban Soundscape Collector” launched with high profile, relying on splash screen ads and algorithmic promotion, with eye-catching first-day data. However, a portion of the attention from the industry and core audience was attracted by the ”Wanderer Partner Program” and the offline workshop recruitment announcement released by ”Flashpoint.” This ultimate temptation of ”creating with Alex,” and the ”creator club” style community imagination established thereby, was something platform giants could not easily replicate.

Meanwhile, the teaser for the ”Sound of Echoes” documentary was released on several serious media platforms, receiving unexpectedly good responses and in-depth reports, successfully pushing the public image of Alex and Taylor one step further toward ”youth leaders with social care.”

Alex sat on the plane back to Los Angeles, looking at the progress reports and data feedback for various businesses on his tablet. In the system interface, the growth curve of available popularity was stable and healthy. The slight improvement in ”Information Reception Filtering” efficiency he had just gained allowed him to capture key points and potential risks faster, even amidst complex business information.

He did not redeem those tempting high-level abilities on the list. He treated them as strategic reserves. Now, he enjoyed this feeling of steadily operating and expanding in the real world using wisdom, strategy, and a little bit of extraordinary assistance.

The plane flew through the clouds, and below was the North American continent with its brilliant lights. Each city was like a ”sound node” waiting to be heard and connected. And he was learning how to listen better, connect more cleverly, and in the process, silently accumulating power that transcended the secular world.

His phone vibrated; it was a message from Taylor, containing only one picture: she was standing in the ”Sound of Echoes” Los Angeles healing space that had just been set up. The room was full of warm wood tones and soft lighting, and on the wall hung drawings and sentences collected from users about ”healing sounds.”

Below the picture was a line of text: ”It’s so quiet here you can hear your heartbeat. Next ’wandering’, want to try the heartbeat sound here?”

Alex smiled and replied: ”Good idea. Remember to record it.”

Feet on the ground, eyes on the stars.

And his starry sky was drawing increasingly real light from the lamps in the human world that he had lit with his own hands.
