Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures

“Yeh know, Harry,” said Hagrid, beaming down at him, “I used this to brin’ yeh here sixteen years ago. Yeah, the last time yeh was on it, I could fit yeh in one hand!”

Harry nodded. He had dreamed of this flying motorbike countless times when he was a child.

He had ridden it once before — when he was still a baby.

Harry thought it was cool, but as he got into the sidecar, he couldn’t help but feel a little humiliated. It placed him several feet below everyone else, like a child in a bumper car. He stuffed his rucksack and broomstick down by his feet and rammed Hedwig’s cage between his knees. It was extremely uncomfortable.

“This bike’s been around a long time. Ever since that flyin’ regulation was passed — the one bannin’ all airborne vehicles except broomsticks — I haven’ used it at all. But don’ worry, it’s in good shape. Arthur’s done a bit o’ tinkerin’ not long ago,” said Hagrid, quite oblivious to Harry’s discomfort. He settled himself astride the motorcycle, which creaked slightly and sank inches into the ground. “It’s got a few tricks up its handlebars now. Tha’ one was my idea.”

He pointed a thick finger at a purple button near the speedometer. Harry had no idea what it did, but he had a bad feeling about it.

“Please be careful, Hagrid,” said Mr. Weasley, who was standing beside them, holding his broomstick. “I’m still not sure that was advisable and it’s certainly only to be used in emergencies.”

“I know, Arthur!”

“Hagrid, whatever happens, don’t stick around. If something goes wrong, use those controls,” Sirius added, walking up. “See you soon, Harry!”

“All right then, mount your brooms,” said Moody. “Everyone ready, please; I want us all to leave at exactly the same time or the whole point of the diversion’s lost.”

Evan mounted his Firebolt. He was not a good flyer; this was not his preferred way of travel.

He glanced around. From the sidecar of the motorbike, only Harry’s head was visible.

Hagrid kicked the motorbike into life: It roared like a dragon, and the sidecar began to vibrate.

The others were ready. Hermione, her hands on Tonks’s waist, sat on the thestral. On the other thestral, Fleur and Bill had swapped places, with Bill holding Fleur. Fred and George’s brooms were already hovering casually in the air. Ron followed Moody, looking nervous and glancing around warily.

“Good luck, everyone,” shouted Moody. “See you all in about an hour at the Burrow. On the count of three. One … two … THREE!”

There was a great roar from the motorbike.

Amidst the roar, Evan pushed off and soared into the air.

He hurtled through the night sky, the wind whistling past him, blowing his hair back.

Around him, brooms were soaring upward too; the long black tail of a thestral flicked past. They drifted further and further away from number four, Privet Drive. Soon, the house was reduced to a small cube, blending into the other houses below. Higher and higher they climbed into the sky —

But before they could split up as planned, a mass of black shadows burst silently out of the thick surrounding clouds. They were surrounded.

At least thirty hooded figures, suspended in midair, formed a vast circle in the midst of which the Order members had risen, oblivious —

Below them, more Death Eaters were appearing. Screams, a blaze of green light filled the night on every side.

“Follow me, Harry. We’re breaking out!” Sirius roared, steering his broom straight towards the nearest Death Eater.

Evan hurried to catch up, flicking his wand rapidly, firing Stunning Spells and Disarming Charms at the Death Eaters at great speed. He flew in Sirius’s wake, dodging spells flying his way, trying to fight like Harry would. If he couldn’t dodge in time, he used the Shield Charm.

The Death Eaters couldn’t be sure if Evan was the real Harry — but they all definitely recognized Sirius Black.

Therefore, the largest group of Death Eaters had gathered on Evan and Sirius’s side.

“Over here! That one’s the real one!”

“No doubt — I just heard Black call his name!”

“Damn it, don’t let them get away!”

Beams of green light shot back and forth. Evan fired off another Stunning Spell, knocking down a Death Eater who had been trying to ambush Sirius from the side. Then he quickly cast a Barrier Charm behind him. The spell had a wide area of effect — three Death Eaters hit by it were suspended in mid-air.

Seizing the opportunity, Evan looked around. On the other side, two broom-riding groups had already broken out of the encirclement and were flying off into the distance, though he couldn’t tell who they were. …

Hermione, Fleur, Harry, and the remaining broomstick group were still trapped inside the circle. Evan swung his wand, rapidly casting Stunning Spells and Disarming Charms to help break them free. He was far faster than any other wizard.

At this level of magic, Evan could cast spells with just a flick of his wand. With him and Sirius attacking, their side was causing the biggest commotion.

More and more Death Eaters were drawn toward them. The encirclement began to collapse.

Seconds later, Hermione and Tonks rushed out, followed by Hagrid and Harry. …

From the moment the fight began, only four Death Eaters had surrounded Harry and Hagrid.

They seemed to believe that the one Hagrid was carrying wasn’t the real Harry — the plan was working.

Taking advantage of the Death Eaters’ confusion, Hagrid gave a yell and the motorbike rolled over with a thunderous rumble.

Hooded Death Eaters scattered, not daring to block it head-on. In the sidecar, Harry was jolted so violently he felt dizzy and disoriented.

Suddenly, the motorbike flipped over, and Harry lost any sense of where they were: Streetlights above him, yells around him, he was clinging to the sidecar for dear life. Hedwig’s cage, the Firebolt, and his rucksack slipped from beneath his knees —

Harry reached out to grab it, but a burst of green light swooped in from the side, whizzing past his left ear and striking the cage. The owl inside screeched.

“No!” Harry cried, knowing the owl was dead.

Then it hit him — thank goodness Evan had taken Hedwig. Otherwise…

The thought made Harry break into a cold sweat. He felt even more anxious about the others’ safety. He turned his head and saw a large number of people on the move, with green lights firing back and forth. The entire group seemed to have broken free from the encirclement. Behind them, the four Death Eaters who had been scattered earlier were now chasing the motorbike relentlessly.

More curses shot from behind, and Harry had to sink low into the sidecar to avoid them.

Wriggling around he cried, “Stupefy!” and a red bolt of light shot from his own wand, cleaving a gap between the four pursuing Death Eaters as they scattered to avoid it.
