Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures

Yes, no one thought that this day would come so soon.

The happy summer vacation, those happy memories, seemed like yesterday.

If time could be frozen, how wonderful that would be!

“Hermione and I are leaving, we…” Before Evan could finish, his mother got to her feet and pulled him into her arms.

She was crying. Since they had already said so much before, this time, apart from the words of farewell, there was nothing more to say.

But the tears of parting were indeed inevitable.

Even if they had long known everything, even the strongest people would shed tears in this moment.

They were about to part — and perhaps never see each other again. Never. …

Evan sniffled. He had told himself to be strong, but the moment he was held by his mother, he couldn’t stop his tears from flowing, soaking his eyes.

He quickly bowed his head and bent down to hug his mother tightly.

When no one was looking, he wiped his tears away with the back of his hand.

At this moment, he was supposed to be the strongest one.

Evan knew that after today, he would be Hermione’s only support.

They were about to embark on that dangerous journey, and if he showed weakness, it would only increase Hermione’s pressure.

“Take care of yourself out there, I…” Mrs. Mason choked up as she spoke.

“I will, Mum, you take care too,” Evan whispered in her ear. “It won’t be long, Hermione and I will come find you.”

“Take care, son. We’ll be waiting for you to come find us in China.”

Mr. Mason also stepped forward and patted Evan on the shoulder.

“Mm!” Evan nodded solemnly.

Then Mr. Granger came over to say goodbye, and finally Mrs. Granger, who was holding Hermione’s hand, slowly put Hermione’s small hand into Evan’s. This moment felt like a mother handing her daughter’s hand to the groom in a church wedding…

A simple gesture, yet at this moment it seemed to become a kind of ritual. Sacred, solemn, and of extraordinary significance. …

Everyone watched, blessed, and witnessed silently.

Hermione’s eyes were red, but she was no longer crying. She obediently let Mrs. Granger place her hand into Evan’s, then let him hold it. She held his hand tightly in return, feeling the warmth of his palm — the only warmth in that moment. The warmth of their hands reflected the warmth of their hearts. They leaned into each other.

“Evan, promise me you’ll take good care of Hermione,” said Mrs. Granger.

“Don’t worry, I will,” said Evan. He knew this wasn’t just a promise to the Grangers or to Hermione — it was also a promise to himself.

From now on, he would spend his life to fulfill this promise.

In the sad atmosphere, Evan and Hermione looked at their parents one last time, then took out their wands and pointed them at them. As if they shared a mutual understanding, they chanted the incantation at the same time.

A flash of blue light swept through the room. …

Goodbye. Let there be a day when we meet again!

Under the influence of inexplicable emotions, Harry didn’t know why, but he felt like crying a little.

He felt that he was really strange. He should be happy to leave the Dursleys forever.

This meant that he would not have to endure their torture anymore.

From now on, he could live with Sirius and Ginny. He could do what he liked without fear or restraint, just as a wizard ought to.

God knew how much Harry had longed for this day in the past sixteen years.

At this moment, the doorbell downstairs rang.

Harry hesitated for a moment, then headed back out of his room and downstairs. He told himself that he wasn’t going to say goodbye to the Dursleys — he was just going down to make sure nothing went wrong. It was too much to expect Hestia and Dedalus to cope with the Dursleys on their own.

“Harry Potter!” squeaked an excited voice, the moment Harry had opened the door; a small man in a mauve top hat was sweeping him a deep bow. “An honor, as ever!”

“Thanks, Dedalus,” said Harry, bestowing a small and embarrassed smile upon the dark-haired Hestia. “It’s really good of you to do this. … They’re through here, my aunt and uncle and cousin. …”

“Good day to you, Harry Potter’s relatives!” said Dedalus happily, striding into the living room. The Dursleys did not look at all happy to be addressed thus; Harry half expected another change of mind. Dudley shrank nearer to his mother at the sight of the witch and wizard.

As expected, he must have thought of the memory of growing a pig’s tail again.

“I see you are packed and ready. Excellent! The plan, as Harry has told you, is a simple one,” said Dedalus, pulling an immense pocket watch out of his waistcoat and examining it. “We shall be leaving before Harry does. Due to the danger of using magic in your house — Harry being still underage, it could provide the Ministry with an excuse to arrest him — we shall be driving, say, ten miles or so, before Disapparating to the safe location we have picked out for you. You know how to drive, I take it?” he asked Uncle Vernon politely.

“Know how to — ? Of course I ruddy well know how to drive!” spluttered Uncle Vernon.

“Very clever of you, sir, very clever, I personally would be utterly bamboozled by all those buttons and knobs,” said Dedalus. “The moment I saw you, I knew — definitely an experienced driver, remarkable…”

He was clearly under the impression that he was flattering Vernon Dursley, who was visibly losing confidence in the plan with every word Dedalus spoke.

Experienced driver, what the hell was this funny guy talking about?

“Can’t even drive,” he muttered under his breath, his mustache rippling indignantly, but fortunately neither Dedalus nor Hestia seemed to hear him.

“You, Harry,” Dedalus continued, “will wait here for your guard. There has been a little change in the arrangements —”

“What d’you mean?” said Harry at once. “I remember Sirius said he and Mad-Eye were going to come and take me by Side-Along-Apparition?”

“Can’t do it,” said Hestia tersely. “They will explain.”

The Dursleys, who had listened to all of this with looks of utter incomprehension on their faces, jumped as a loud voice screeched, “Hurry up!” Harry looked all around the room before realizing that the voice had issued from Dedalus’s pocket watch.

“Quite right, we’re operating to a very tight schedule,” said Dedalus, nodding at his watch and tucking it back into his waistcoat. “In short, we have changed our plans, Harry. Instead of waiting until you come of age, we are attempting to time your departure from the house with your family’s Disapparition; thus, the charm breaks at the moment you all head for safety. Well then, Mr. Dursley, are we all packed and ready to go?”
