Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

”Qualitative change...”

Lin Yu heard the tycoon’s words, and a subtle movement flickered across his expression.

In the last dungeon, neither ”A Nian” nor ”Heavenly Artisan” really used their class abilities.

Not to mention the abilities after ’Promotion,’ even the original abilities of the ’Thief’ and ’Craftsman’ classes were barely used.

But just based on the tycoon’s statement, Lin Yu could still imagine that players who had completed ’Promotion’ indeed held a significant advantage over ordinary players.

Seeing Lin Yu’s thoughtful look, the tycoon laughed.

”Alright, no need to get too ambitious. After all, the day you get to ’Promotion’ is still a long way off!”

Hearing this, Lin Yu was somewhat surprised.

A long way off?

He was clearly going to face his ’Promotion’ next week!

However, Lin Yu’s face remained calm and composed.

”Is that so? Then how much longer roughly?”

The tycoon chuckled at Lin Yu’s words.

”Usually, players encounter their first ’Promotion’ dungeon at the ninth or tenth dungeon... it depends on their performance in the previous dungeons!”

”When the Death Game thinks you’re ready, it will open the ’Promotion’ dungeon for you.”

”Those with higher potential get it at the ninth; those a bit lacking get it at the tenth.”

”Of course, a small number with decent potential and early signs get the ’Promotion’ hint at the eighth dungeon.”

”And a very few geniuses start their ’Promotion’ as early as the seventh dungeon!”

The tycoon looked at Lin Yu and said, ”Honestly, I don’t think you’ll have to wait until the ninth or tenth dungeon!”

”But even if you are a prodigy who gets the ’Promotion’ qualification at the seventh dungeon... that’s still a month away, no rush.”

Lin Yu smiled and nodded, saying, ”That makes sense.”

Yet deep down, he felt utterly shocked.

He wasn’t just not waiting until the ninth or tenth...

According to the tycoon’s tone, starting ’Promotion’ at the seventh dungeon was already extremely rare...

He was on his third!

Lin Yu immediately made up his mind to keep this matter completely hidden!

He was just a newcomer already being targeted by three troubling organizations. If he exposed any special traits, he would never find peace again!

Some people naturally loved being in the spotlight and thrived even in danger.

But Lin Yu was not one of them.

Except when performing, enjoying the attention of the masses, his daily life was very low-key.

Moreover, these Death Game players and organizations were crazier than one another, and Lin Yu did not want to draw too much attention from them.

So, Lin Yu lightly cleared his throat.

”Alright, it seems there’s no need to worry too much about this for now... but I’m curious, you just said the ’Promotion’ task is optional—so what happens if you don’t do it?”

”Oh, nothing will happen,” the tycoon took a sip of tea and smacked his lips lightly, ”It just means you’ll face it again after ten more dungeons... So, many people don’t complete their first ’Promotion,’ and even those who do it the second time are in the minority!”

”Of course, even if you don’t do the ’Promotion’ task, the task itself will make your dungeon harder... surviving that itself counts as strength.”

At this, the tycoon laughed.

”This is also why there is rarely information or guides about ’Promotion’ on the forum; it’s a tacit understanding among the organizations.”

Lin Yu also lifted his teacup and took a sip.

”What do you mean by that?”

The tycoon laughed again.

”You’ve been on the forum, so you should know, although the Death Game has a wide variety of ’classes,’ excluding those extremely special ’Unique Classes’... currently, the known classes don’t exceed a hundred!”

”And among them, some classes that aren’t unique are still quite rare... excluding those, the common classes are actually just over fifty!”

Lin Yu nodded slightly.

During the past week, he had almost memorized over fifty common classes and more than twenty less common ones.

He knew the tycoon’s words better than most new players.

And the tycoon’s words also gave Lin Yu a faint realization.

”So... could it be that the ’Promotion’ tasks of the same class are very similar?”

Lin Yu said, and the tycoon smiled.

”Yes, although the ’Promotion’ tasks adjust slightly according to the next dungeon, the tasks for the same class are basically similar—therefore, many organizations have rich experience on how to ’survive the Promotion dungeon’ and ’complete the Promotion task.’”

”Thus, players with average talent who want to survive the ’Promotion’ dungeon have the best chance by joining an organization,” the tycoon said calmly, ”After joining, you can get experience on how to survive, and even enjoy the service of experienced veterans ’helping with the Promotion dungeon’ at quite a favorable price. Some large organizations, like ’Order,’ even offer this as a free benefit—you only need to pay the cost price for ’Party Items!’”

”And players with higher talent and ambitions who want to complete the ’Promotion’ task earlier and more safely can also gain a lot of useful experience—although once the ’Promotion’ task is in a party, it cannot be completed and you can’t rely on the organization inside the dungeon for help, but outside the dungeon, the experience and guidance are invaluable!”

”Moreover, after each class completes ’Promotion,’ it will split into two different branches... choosing a branch is also valuable information for players seeking further advancement.”

The tycoon stopped, and Lin Yu understood.

”I see, thank you!”

Lin Yu said, also understanding the tycoon’s intention.

Since last time, Lin Yu had sensed that this uncle...

Seemed to want to recruit and win him over.

And through these inquiries, besides getting a lot of information about the Death Game and the player situation, he also confirmed one thing.

This ”tycoon” was definitely well-informed and experienced.

He even knew about the ’Psychological Society’ organization.

So...

Had he recognized that business card?

Recalling the tycoon’s subtle expression at that time... Although this experienced uncle was a good actor, any trace of ”acting” could not escape Lin Yu’s eyes.

He definitely recognized the origin of that business card.

Therefore, he knew from the start that Lin Yu was being targeted by the ’Psychological Society’!

Moreover, judging by the uncle’s knowledge of the ’Psychological Society,’ he likely knew that the Society targets newcomers because they have very high ”potential”!

But since the ”tycoon’s” goodwill was genuine, Lin Yu didn’t expose anything.

Still, he was somewhat curious about the tycoon’s real intention.

Just now...

During this self-introduction, the tycoon mentioned the organization he founded, ’Jiang’an Hall,’ making Lin Yu completely clear.

This uncle definitely wanted him to join his organization.

Sure enough, the tycoon cleared his throat and spoke.

”Ahem, brother, to be honest, I won’t be polite. I’ll be straightforward with you!”

”I want you to join our ’Jiang’an Hall!’”
