Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

After Number Eight confessed with a face full of guilt.

April slowly exhaled, her eyes gradually turning cold.

This young woman with the ’Doctor’ profession had a rather gentle appearance.

But at this moment, her icy expression sent chills down even Lin Yu’s spine.

April looked at her boyfriend and spoke softly.

”I actually had some suspicions about this matter long ago, but I never imagined you’d truly reached the point of ’betraying’ me that day.”

Number Eight wanted to explain himself, but could only lower his head weakly in the end: ”I’m sorry, A-Yao.”

April let out a cold laugh: ”Save your insincere apologies. You didn’t wrong me - you only wronged yourself.”

After saying this, April paused.

”No wait, you did wrong me too - never mind all those final assignments I helped you with, just think about how many times I’ve saved you in this ’Death Game’?”

”Even after going through life and death together, did she still mean more than me? Just because she’s pretty and wild? I hope you enjoyed your STDs!”

April mocked mercilessly.

Number Eight finally couldn’t take April’s accusations anymore: ”Don’t slander her like that... besides, that was a whole year ago!”

”Just that one time a year ago?” April interrupted coldly, ”Think harder - don’t lie to yourself too.”

Number Eight’s face changed dramatically: ”You knew all along?”

”Before this dungeon, they were just suspicions... no, more like willful blindness,” April shook her head with a smile, ”And just now you actually defended her... good, very good.”

As April spoke, Number Eight’s face flushed red.

”So what? She didn’t actually do anything wrong... besides, the only reason I’m trapped in this damn game is because you insisted on taking that trip that day... you owe me this life!”

Number Eight roared. April froze momentarily before bursting into laughter.

”Good! Good! So that’s what you really think!”

”Yeah, so what?” Number Eight completely abandoned his previously meek demeanor and shouted, ”You’re just a control-freak with attachment issues! I’ve never felt relaxed with you - all you do is belittle and insult me over and over... so what if you saved me? I never asked you to!”

April watched the furious Number Eight coldly.

This only made Number Eight more hysterical: ”You’re no better! You were going to pick the fourth option too - doesn’t that mean you betrayed me first?!”

He glared at April angrily.

April shook her head: ”No, I didn’t betray you. I chose the fourth option... because I was thinking about what happened at the library last year - and when you said you were going to the internet cafe last week, and your high school reunion last month.”

”But more than ’clearing the game’, I wanted to confirm whether those things were true.”

Right on cue, Crow-Man’s voice rang out.

”Caw caw, congratulations, you may now leave the dungeon.”

As Crow-Man spoke, he tossed the key to Number Eight.

April looked at Number Eight and simply shook her head.

”Get lost.”

She waved dismissively. Number Eight roared back: ”Fine, I’m gone!”

With that, Number Eight took the key and walked toward the foggy exit.

April watched his retreating figure and exhaled, her expression utterly exhausted.

Lin Yu and Unforgotten watched this ’Doctor’ with great interest.

”What an entertaining show. So scumbags aren’t just the playboy type... and anger after being cheated on can be this restrained.”

Lin Yu mused while rubbing his chin.

Unforgotten walked up and patted April’s shoulder.

”Hey, are you really just letting him leave like that?”

April shook her head.

”Whatever, he can do what he wants...”

”To be honest, I’m tired - even though the god who designed this ’Death Game’ said only those who desperately want to live get chosen.”

”I really wanted to live before... but now... I’m just exhausted.”

April said wearily.

Unforgotten stuffed her hands in her pockets and shook her head: ”Don’t let emotions cloud your judgment. Are you an orphan? Other than that trash boyfriend, you’ve got nothing else right?”

”You two were classmates right... both students, yet you awakened the ’Doctor’ profession. You must’ve been a top medical student.”

”Wouldn’t your survival be more valuable than that useless, morally bankrupt scumbag’s?”

In just a few sentences, Unforgotten seemed to strike a chord in April’s heart.

Hesitantly, April looked at Unforgotten: ”But... I don’t know which of the remaining three statements are lies anymore...”

”You actually do know,” Unforgotten smiled, pulling out her utility knife. With a series of ’click-clack’ sounds, she extended the blade segment by segment. ”Sister April... didn’t there come a moment just now - when he defended that bitch, when he blamed you, when he showed no gratitude - when you didn’t have this thought?”

”This is the ’Death Game’ after all.”

April silently took the utility knife from Unforgotten, her eyes darkening like an abyss.

If her gaze earlier was ’icy’, then now...

April’s eyes had become bottomless voids.

Then she turned to Crow-Man.

”I believe your fifth statement was the lie.”

Crow-Man looked at April and laughed.

”Caw caw, then... please provide proof!”

Without a word, April strode swiftly toward the gate with the utility knife, her pace quickening until she was nearly running.

Finally—

Just before reaching the gate, she pounced on Number Eight’s figure as he was about to use the key.

”What are you doing!”

”A-Yao, that hurts!”

”I was wrong, A-Yao... stop stabbing!”

”Help!”

”You bitch, just die!”

”Ah—”

Piercing screams rang out one after another.

Then complete silence.

Soon after, April returned covered in blood. She gently wiped the splattered blood from her face, carefully holding the knife’s blade to return it to Unforgotten.

”Thank you, Miss Unforgotten.”

Then she looked at Crow-Man.

”Is this proof sufficient?”

Crow-Man observed the blood-drenched April and laughed cheerfully.

”Caw caw, how splendid—more than sufficient! You may leave now!”

It waved its hand, and another key materialized in its grasp.

As Crow-Man tossed the key to April, the ’Doctor’ caught it and looked back at Unforgotten.

Unforgotten smiled and waved her off.

”Don’t mention it... so, how do you feel now?”

April smiled.

”I feel wonderful.”

With that, she turned and walked toward the foggy passage’s end.
