First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

Lu Ding smashed through the last earthen wall blocking his path.

His whole body lunged forward like a Flying Bear pouncing on its prey.

Facing the old man, Lu Ding’s voice, wrapped in killing intent, rang out.

”Threatening a 749 law enforcement officer, obstructing justice—multiple crimes combined! Come on, block this for me!!”

He struck with his palm!!

The old man formed a seal and channeled his Qi. A layer of armor formed from gathered rocks and soil clung to his body.

He raised his hand to block.

But he was sent flying by Lu Ding’s forceful strike.

Most of his armor shattered on impact.Lu Ding landed, turned around, and spun with a blade-like palm. In an instant, a great head soared skyward.

Ye Xuan never expected this.

Casually running into a 749 investigator, and they had such terrifying combat power?

This was completely different from what the old men on the mountain had told him.

Hadn’t they said that with his age and talent, he was already a prodigy?

How had he just come down the mountain for less than a month, only to meet his end like this?

His headless body collapsed.

Lu Ding straightened up, glancing at the old man he had knocked back with a single palm.

Then, he looked at Ye Xuan’s lifeless corpse.

The old man’s eyes turned bloodshot. ”Little Ye!!!”

At that moment, he didn’t know how he could face the old brothers back on the mountain.

Over a decade ago, the old man had fled Daheshan due to a mistake. By chance, he arrived in Yunhai and joined the Sihai Group.

He had thought he’d never have the chance to return to Daheshan.

Until Ye Xuan arrived.

Only then did he realize—

All these years, his old brothers on the mountain had been watching over him.

The mistakes he made in the past had long been forgiven. Even his entry into the Sihai Group had been arranged by those old brothers.

But now, he hadn’t even been able to protect their one and only disciple.

At this moment, the old man’s fury reached its peak.

”Lu Ding!!!!!!”

”You’re too ruthless!!! What a disgrace to the 749 Investigators!!! Today, I’ll kill you, remove a hidden danger for 749, and avenge Ye Xuan!!!”

”Shut the f*** up, old man! Who the hell are you to judge me? As a 749 investigator, do you think I should just let Ye Xuan threaten me and walk away? If you’ve got the guts, then come and kill me! If you don’t, then just come and die!”

Lu Ding shot back without hesitation.

No one had the right to judge how he did things. At the very least, he had a clear conscience. In the entire 749 Bureau, how many people were more dedicated to slaying monsters and demons than him?

Disgrace to the 749 Bureau?

What a joke!

Ye Xuan had openly threatened him. Was he supposed to just let him leave, making an enemy out of him, leaving behind a hidden danger that could lead to uncontrollable disasters in the future?

Lu Ding wasn’t stupid enough to do something like that.

He only knew how to nip all threats in the bud.

The old man formed a seal and pressed his palm to the ground.

”Huang Marsh Divide!!!”

The solid ground instantly turned into a yellow swamp.

The old man stood atop the swamp.

From their earlier exchange, he already understood—beating Lu Ding in sheer strength was impossible.

But strength came from the ground. There had to be something to push off from in order to exert force, right?

Lu Ding was only at the Zhaoxuan Realm. By all logic, he absolutely shouldn’t be able to fly.

If he changed the environment and left Lu Ding with nothing to push off from, then he could gain the upper hand.

With the terrain in his favor, and his strength a full realm above Lu Ding’s, that gave him two out of three advantages—terrain and power.

Even if Lu Ding’s physical strength was monstrous, he wouldn’t be able to exert more than half of it. Meanwhile, the old man could fight at full capacity, even exceeding his normal strength.

With all these factors, the old man couldn’t see how he could possibly lose.

But no matter how much he calculated—

He never expected that Lu Ding could actually fly.

Lu Ding slowly floated up, standing in midair.

The old man’s expression stiffened. How was he flying?

He was just at the Zhaoxuan Realm—how the hell could he fly!?

Outside the swamp, Sihai Group’s Xie Shunan looked grim. She was the one who had just called out for Lu Ding to spare Ye Xuan.

At this moment, Xie Shunan felt an unbearable frustration.

How had things escalated to this point?

She had initially planned to invite Lu Ding for a meal today to gauge his attitude. He had declined, but Xie Shunan hadn’t minded—capable people often had big tempers.

But she never expected—

To run into Lu Ding again in the Collapsed Zone.

And he was fighting Ye Xuan.

The violent, oppressive aura leaking from him had truly shaken her.

She had already determined that Ye Xuan was no match for Lu Ding.

But she never imagined—

Lu Ding would actually kill him outright.

And now, Elder Huang was going head-to-head with Lu Ding in a life-or-death battle!

As for Ye Xuan’s death—

Xie Shunan actually didn’t care much.

She had no personal connection with Ye Xuan. If not for orders from her elders, she wouldn’t have even acknowledged him. His bandit-like demeanor had always made her uncomfortable.

It was like he was living in some bygone era where men ruled mountains as kings.

They weren’t the same kind of people.

Later, when Ye Xuan obtained the development rights for this ancient tomb, Xie Shunan’s opinion of him hadn’t changed much.

This place was more trouble than it was worth.

Even if the Sihai Group acquired this site, it wouldn’t give them any major advantage. And losing it wouldn’t set them back either.

She was only here to monitor things.

Not because she was particularly interested in the tomb’s contents—

But because if anything unusual appeared, or if valuable artifacts surfaced, she could be the one to hand them over to the 749 Bureau or take charge of the situation herself.

Some things shouldn’t be taken lightly.

They could easily offend the wrong people.

But who could have predicted things would turn out like this?

”Elder Huang, please calm down.”

Xie Shunan still wanted to persuade Elder Huang not to act on impulse. Whether he could defeat Lu Ding or not, the outcome wouldn’t be good either way.

If he won, so what?

Kill Lu Ding? Then get hunted down by 749?

Spare him? Only for Lu Ding to come back stronger in the future for revenge?

And if he couldn’t win, based on the rumors outside and what they had just witnessed, there was only one possible outcome for Elder Huang—death.

No matter what, things wouldn’t end well for him.

And on top of that, the Sihai Group would be dragged into an investigation.

But the old man wouldn’t listen at all.

”Miss Xie, stop trying to convince me. I’ve already let Daheshan down. I’ve let my old brothers down. They entrusted Ye Xuan to me, and I failed to protect him. If there’s a debt, it should be paid by the one responsible. He killed Ye Xuan, so I’ll kill him to avenge Ye Xuan! After that, I’ll turn myself in to 749!!”

”Kill me?”

Lu Ding’s face twisted into a mocking smile. ”And how exactly do you plan to do that? With this… farmland renovation technique?”

Yan Feifan covered his face, trying not to laugh.

Of all times, Lu Ge, you still have the mood to crack jokes?

But looking closer—yeah, with the water, the mud, and how soft it was, it really did look like a damn farmland.

Lu Ding crooked his finger at the old man. ”Come on, come kill me.”

”You’re seeking death!!!!”

Two massive mud dragons shot out from the swamp, lunging at Lu Ding from the left and right, jaws wide open.

The old man didn’t expect these mud dragons to truly threaten Lu Ding.

He just needed to buy time—enough time to gather his strength.

But in the blink of an eye—

Lu Ding vanished from his line of sight.

The sound of wind rushed past his ears.

”What era do you think this is? Still using pre-cast movements?”

Lu Ding had already appeared at his side, leg whipping through the air like a storm, delivering a crushing roundhouse kick straight at him.

The old man had no choice but to abandon his hand seals.

He swept his palm through the air, and the muddy ground surged into waves, solidifying into a thick earthen wall to block Lu Ding’s strike.

BOOM!!!

The kick smashed into the wall, sending shattered stone flying in all directions.

The old man’s feet sank into the mud, which quickly hardened into a platform, carrying him backward.

Then, the mud transformed again, forming giant hands that lifted the old man high into the air, launching him dozens of meters up.

Mid-air, he swiftly formed seals with both hands, spiritual energy surging within him.

The swamp below churned violently, releasing a putrid stench as its color darkened from yellow to pitch black.

”Death Swamp Burial!!”
