First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

”People my age are already grandfathers by now. If I had kids, my grandson would probably be about your age,” Deng Guofu chuckled. ”Though I doubt he’d be as promising as you. Hahaha!”

As they chatted, the two arrived at a building shaped like an open book—the 749 Bureau’s logistics archive.

Inside, shelves were packed with all sorts of books—cultivation techniques, miscellaneous records, research data—it was overwhelming.

Lu Ding stepped forward to the Trainee Investigator Cultivation Techniques section.

He randomly picked up a book.

Ape Strike Technique.

Best suited for those with abnormally long arms. Focuses on long-range strikes, wide swings, and harnessing one’s restless nature to achieve mastery.

Lu Ding glanced at his own arms. Doesn’t seem like a good fit. Pass.

He grabbed another book.Infernal Embers Manual.

Cultivates Yin Fire to temper the body, planting a seed of flame within. The Qi carries Yin Fire, soft yet deadly.

Sounds interesting… but there are so many more options. I should check them all first.

Seeing that Lu Ding was struggling to decide, Deng Guofu handed him an ancient-looking scroll.

”Take a look at this.”

Lu Ding unfolded it, and immediately, the scent of age filled the air.

In his ears, he seemed to hear earth-shaking roars.

The scent of blood flooded his senses.

A terrifying, winged giant bear charged at him, its claws outstretched.

His instincts screamed at him to block—only to realize it was all an illusion.

Even if he hadn’t read the scroll yet, the sheer presence of it was overwhelming.

He looked at the scroll’s illustration—a lifelike depiction of the winged bear, standing atop a mountain, roaring toward the sky.

Below its feet lay a mountain of beast corpses, blood flowing like rivers.

It radiated sheer brutality.

Lu Ding turned to Deng Guofu.

The old man smiled knowingly.

”This is the Flying Bear Visualization Diagram. That beast on the scroll? That’s the Flying Bear, standing atop the Twin Boundary Mountain, which divides north and south.

”Legends say that in the north, the Flying Bear is a beast of calamity—fierce, cruel, and finds joy in slaughter. It ravages the lands, showing no mercy.

”But in the south, it’s a divine protector—standing guard over mountains and maintaining order.

”Visualizing it allows different people to gain different insights—whether they lean toward the north or the south depends on their own comprehension. The possibilities are endless.

”Interested?”

Lu Ding didn’t hesitate.

This wasn’t just some common technique sitting on a shelf.

It was something special.

He rolled up the scroll. ”I’ll take it.”

”Haha! Smart choice!” Deng Guofu laughed. ”Keep it as long as you need—better than letting it collect dust here.

”But remember, when you visualize the Flying Bear, take the Aperture-Unlocking Pill alongside it. That way, you’ll absorb its full medicinal effects.”

”Got it. Thanks, Director Deng!”

”Now go—don’t waste time!” Deng Guofu waved him off.

Lu Ding bowed in thanks before hurrying off.

He couldn’t wait to test this Flying Bear Visualization Diagram.

People always said ”like a tiger growing wings.”

So what happens when a bear grows wings?

He was about to find out.

As Deng Guofu watched Lu Ding leave, he nodded in satisfaction.

But then, he frowned slightly.

”Did someone mess up the records? Where’s the brutality they mentioned? This kid’s polite, smart, and respectful.”

He walked to the deeper section of the archives, peeled off an empty slot’s label, and glanced at it.

Flying Bear Visualization Diagram—500 Contribution Points.

…

Back at his 200-square-meter single-person dorm, Lu Ding spread the Flying Bear Visualization Diagram across his tea table.

He popped open the Aperture-Unlocking Pill and swallowed it.

Then, he activated Oneness with Formlessness.

Oneness with Heaven and Man—activated!

Warm energy erupted from his heart, flowing through his blood vessels, spreading to every corner of his body.

At the same time, the Flying Bear Visualization Diagram seemed to come to life.

On a vast mountain peak, a winged bear stood tall, roaring toward the heavens.

Its voice split the sky, shaking the land for 500 miles.

To the south, the beasts responded with cries of reverence.

To the north, a dust storm surged as countless creatures fled in terror.

The Flying Bear gazed south—

Then spread its wings, soaring into the north, tearing through the skies, leaving a storm of blood and slaughter in its wake.

Lu Ding’s eyes snapped open.

Two days had passed.

All 365 apertures in his body had fully opened—he had stepped directly into Zhaoxuan Realm.

A fierce aura radiated from his body—like a tidal wave, crushing anything that dared to challenge him.

This was his comprehension.

Flying Bear Slaughtering Art.

A pure killing technique—designed for absolute destruction.

His true Qi, now spinning in his apertures, carried an aura of carnage—overwhelmingly aggressive.

Lu Ding smirked.

”Director Deng really hooked me up with a great technique.”

This was a favor he wouldn’t forget.

He stretched his body, joints popping loudly.

Then he checked his phone—two days had passed.

With his newfound power, it was time to take on his first mission as a 749 investigator.

Opening the 749 App, he refreshed the mission board.

Countless tasks appeared, each detailed with reports.

He scrolled through and picked one with an intriguing title.

Mission: The 816 Massacre Case

[August 16th—Long’an Street, Xinghua Complex—entire household of six brutally murdered. Local authorities reported all victims died from excessive blood loss due to lacerations, with their faces skinned off.

Initial police assessment: animal attack.

Case transferred to 749 Bureau.

Further investigation found traces of an entity known as Black Old Lady.

Mission: Investigate the truth, either capture or eliminate Black Old Lady.]

Lu Ding’s brows lifted.

According to ancient folklore, the Black Old Lady—also called the Black Immortal—originated as a guardian deity of a northern cult.

Later, the term broadly referred to black foxes, black bears, and black snakes that had achieved spirit form after shedding their physical bodies.

The Black Bear variant, in particular, had a notorious habit—

Ripping off and devouring human faces—while they were still alive.

Extremely brutal.

Lu Ding chuckled.

Interesting.

He had just mastered the Flying Bear Slaughtering Art, and now he was being sent to deal with a Black Bear spirit?

This was fate.

Mission Rewards:

Team Leader: 20 Contribution Points + 200,000 RMBSupport Investigator: 5 Contribution Points + 50,000 RMBBonus: +10,000 RMB and +1 Contribution Point for capturing the entity alive.Mission Note: Recommended for investigators at Zhaoxuan Realm or higher.

Lu Ding glanced at the 749 App’s shop.

A lightning-struck wooden sword, known for its demon-repelling properties and tougher than steel, was only 5 Contribution Points.

And 20 Contribution Points was worth 200,000 RMB in cash.

Tempting… but only an idiot would waste Contribution Points on money.

Still, 20 points was a solid reward.

Only problem?

749 investigators—whether trainees or full agents—were required to work in teams of two or more for missions.

It was a safety measure, ensuring backup and oversight.

But Lu Ding had zero contacts in the Bureau.

So—

He posted an open recruitment message on the 749 Forum.

[Trainee Investigator Lu Ding:]

Need a support investigator. Quick-witted preferred. Combat skills optional. Just be able to hold your own and do basic tasks.

His cocky wording immediately attracted attention.

[Random User:] Who the hell is this guy? Why aren’t you dead yet? You talk like you’re a full investigator.

[Reply:] Bro, look at his ID.
