Venerated Venomous Consort

“Since they were obviously without a ship, did you go after them?”

Yan Chen shook his head. “Little Fox was hurt and clearly shocked by the incident. The two men possessed spiritual power, and I suspected that their weapons might be too powerful for me to handle, so I did not chase them.”

Many follow up questions arose as Gu Xijiu did not quite understand. Lan Waihu was the daughter of the High Priest from the Blue Fox family. She had been quite close with them for the past few years, enough to earn her respect from the community.

As far as Gu Xijiu was concerned, the people of the Blue Fox Planet did not possess any spiritual power. As for the Blue Fox family that had been taking refuge in the Starry Crescent Land for thousands of years, their spiritual power was the result of their meditation and practice over time.

The men who went after Lan Waihu should be members of the Blue Fox family as well, so they should know about Lan Waihu. She could understand why they wanted to keep Lan Waihu alive, but she did not understand why they harassed her. Moreover, Lan Waihu once told her that she had a certain connection to the people of her own family. A touch was enough for her to tell her people apart. These two men had injured and even harassed her. There was no reason that Lan Waihu could not recognize them. So why was she refusing to tell them the truth?

Was she worried that things might become complicated for her if she spilled the secret of her Blue Fox family? Although the reason was legitimate, Lan Waihu was not the kind of person who would hide the truth away from Gu Xijiu.

“Little Fox, have you tried contacting your people?” Gu Xijiu suddenly asked again.

After a pause, Lan Waihu slowly said, “No, I have not been in touch for more than a year. I have no idea how they are doing right now.”

Yan Chen agreed with her, “We have not visited the base of the Blue Fox family for over a year now. We wanted to go, but had to postpone our plans due to the invasion.”

Gu Xijiu looked around her and asked, “Is there anyone here from the Blue Fox family?”

“I am the only one,” Lan Waihu answered grimly.

Gu Canmo sighed. “The Blue Fox family has always been an independent community that hardly interacts with the outside world. I have not seen Lan Yue in a long while. There is no way for us to communicate with them, as well. Furthermore, the base of the Blue Fox family is guarded with its own wizardry barrier. I believe that Lan Yue is capable enough to keep the invaders out. Perhaps they have not fallen into the hands of our enemy yet.”

“No, the Blue Fox family has fallen,” Gu Xijiu reassured firmly. As she uttered those words, she was looking carefully at Lan Waihu and trying to observe her reaction. The crowd gasped in astonishment by the revelation, and Lan Waihu’s face turned pale. Gu Xijiu looked at her sternly, making her feel rather uncomfortable.

She looked at Gu Xijiu with her big, watery eyes and said in a trembling voice, “My Lord, have… Have you visited them? Has their defense been breached?”

“The base of our enemy is right where the Blue Fox family is located.”

The news was startling to all who were present. They gasped in astonishment.

Gu Xijiu continued to observe Lan Waihu. She was holding Yan Chen’s finger very tightly, seemingly worried. “Oh, my dear people.”

Gu Xijiu shook her head but said nothing more.

Lan Waihu was even more worried by now. Her eyes were already soaked with tears.

“Little Fox, if you are really worried about them, I can take you to the base tomorrow,” Gu Xijiu offered.

“I am going with her,” Yan Chen volunteered. He was worried for her safety, but he also knew that there was no way he could stop her from visiting her people in such times of distress.

Lan Waihu did not answer immediately. She bit her lips nervously and said, “The people from the outside are so powerful. Also, the base of the Blue Fox family is so far away from here. My Lord, you need to stay here and look after these people. How can I selfishly take you away and put you in danger again?”
