Venerated Venomous Consort

The five guardians were supposed to stay behind and secure the kingdom, but as soon as they received the news, they immediately came to help with their most elite troops. After information traveled through all sorts of news portals, the guardians found out that the enemy, unfortunately, seized the Devil King.

At this very moment, the guardians were scattered about trying to obtain more information secretly. Fortunately, Guardian Jin was able to communicate his location to them. Soon after, the rest of the guardians were on their way.

Even though backup was on the way, Gu Xijiu could not leave Di Fuyi behind. She did not want to wait for the troops to arrive. Instead, she wanted to turn back and search the place again on her own. However, Kun Xueyi stopped her. “Miss Gu, allow me to go with you.”

Gu Xijiu was reluctant to bring him along as she believed that she would be able to move faster if she acted alone. Kun Xueyi could read her mind and decided to explain himself. “Miss Gu, I am not going to help you find the jade statue. I am only going to disguise as you.”

“Huh?”

“Miss Gu, you are the one that Yun Yanli cares about, so he must have installed some kind of surveillance in your room. Without anyone to step in for you, he will soon find out that you had disappeared; he would surely go into a frantic search. It will not be helpful for your quest as he would surely secure the jade statue knowing that you would go looking for it. Let me stay in the room and pretend to be you so that Yun Yanli will not be suspicious about your whereabouts. You can save me after you find my master’s statue.”

He had a point. Also, since Kun Xueyi was a master at disguising himself, Yun Yanli would not notice a thing. Therefore, she agreed to his plan. Swiftly, she went straight back into the golden house with Kun Xueyi using her teleportation ability.

Gu Xijiu was a very efficient person. She had sorted out many things in just a brief period of time. In fact, it had not even been an hour since they left. Nothing in the golden house seemed to have changed. Without wasting time, Kun Xueyi quickly disguised himself as Gu Xijiu. He even imitated her energy level and temperament. He seemed at ease, just like how Gu Xijiu would normally look.

Relieved, she gave Kun Xueyi a few pointers before leaving. She also noticed that the surveillance camera that she had tampered with was still in the room, which proved that Yun Yanli had not stepped into her room while she was away. As soon as he left the underground prison, he immediately headed towards another secret location.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zhu had been seized in another place. Since Yun Yanli was driven to conquer the Devil Kingdom, the Devil Quenching Clothing was pivotal to his success. Therefore, he needed Mr. Zhu to be on his side. However, Mr. Zhu was no ordinary man. His loyalty to Gu Xijiu was a problem for Yun Yanli, so he needed to think of other ways to convince him.

Yun Yanli was going to make him agree, even if he had to do so forcibly. Yun Yanli had imprisoned Mr. Zhu in an underwater cell by submerging the man entirely in water. Understanding the man’s abilities, he knew that Mr. Zhu would survive.

After four days of being trapped in the water, Yun Yanli finally thought that he would have had enough. It was time to play nice. He went to the underwater cell to visit Mr. Zhu. He took a good look at Mr. Zhu and noticed that the tone of his face was in his natural shades of green. Therefore, Yun Yanli activated a switch and raised him out of the water.

Looking at Mr. Zhu, who was now drenched, Yun Yanli could not help but feel delighted. He began to give a speech that he had long prepared in his head. He fluently conveyed how the situation generally looked like and advised him to choose his allegiance wisely. He was confident that the Devil King would not be able to make a comeback, so he would be the one to unite the Devil Kingdom as one with the other cities. Also, he added that he would be marrying Gu Xijiu soon, so technically, it was not a betrayal for Zhu Duqing to show his loyalty to him.

The more Yun Yanli spoke, the more he was convinced by his own speech. However, the bamboo man remained silent the entire time. Yun Yanli was obviously annoyed by the bamboo man’s ignorance. Yun Yanli knew that Mr. Zhu was not a patient man. Under such circumstances, he would undoubtedly be challenging him instead of keeping quiet as if nothing had happened. Had he been muted?

Yun Yanli wanted to examine his pulse but was surprised by his unusually solid arm. Stunned, he hit the man with a streak of light only to find that it was only a bamboo carved into the shape of a man and covered with a set of loose robes that Mr. Zhu would normally wear. In fact, it was only a puppet, contemptuously smiling at him.

Yun Yanli’s jaw dropped in utter astonishment. Zhu Duqing had escaped! When exactly did this happen? Largely unimpressed, Yun Yanli called upon the two guards that he had assigned to keep watch over Zhu Duqing; he found out that they were equally confused. Consequently, he killed them for their incompetence.

Swiftly, Yun Yanli ran to the golden house to check if Gu Xijiu was still there.
