Reborn As Noble

Chapter 678: Moments of Chaos ( 678 )

The wedding went smoothly after the ceremonial preparations.

Soft chimes echoed through the courtyard as the couple stepped into the center of the blessing circle—an ancient ring of softly glowing vines and radiant mana lines etched into the marble courtyard. The circle pulsed with warm green light, synchronized to the natural heartbeat of the Life Tree nearby.

The guests fell silent.

Standing proudly within the sacred ring, the bride and groom faced one another—Azariah, radiant beneath her moon-silk veil, and Edwyrd, finally composed yet visibly in awe.

Beside the circle, the elven high priest stepped forward. Robed in flowing emerald and silver, his antler-shaped headdress shimmered faintly with mana. Lifting his staff, he began the traditional vow in solemn Elvish, his voice deep and melodic:

Liana stood not far from her eldest sister, flanked by Qamara and Enania. Each of them held small ceremonial leaf-charms over their chests, heads slightly bowed in silent respect.

The priest continued.

Liana closed her eyes momentarily, letting the ancient words wash over her. She didn’t need a translation—every elf knew the meaning.

From my soul to yours, in spring and winter alike,

I bind my light to you,

Not for pride, nor glory,

But for peace, and for love.

A few rows behind, Gloria sat with her legs crossed and a delicate fan resting lazily on her lap.

Her brothers stood with the other groomsmen just outside the blessing circle, backs straight and faces calm... at least on the surface.

Gloria knew better—one of them was clearly fighting a yawn, another one sneakily adjusting his hair every few seconds.

Her gaze shifted toward their parents.

Her father had leaned in to whisper something in Genevieve’s ear—and that woman, that cursed fountain of boundless energy, immediately burst into a giggle. A second later, she kissed his cheek. No, scratch that—his lips.

In full view of the guests.

Gloria’s fan snapped open instantly, shielding her face in quiet shame.

”...Can they not embarrass me just once in public?” she muttered.

And of course, as if summoned by the complaint, Genevieve turned slightly and flashed her daughter a little wink before clinging to her husband’s arm like a love-struck maiden.

Gloria sighed and turned her fan slightly to the side, muttering to herself again.

”Honestly... I’m the only normal one in this family.”

Back inside the blessing circle, the vow drew to a close.

The vines gently curled around the couple’s joined hands—symbolic and light, like nature itself was tying them together. A glowing flower bloomed at their feet, petals unraveling with a shimmer of white-gold light.

Edwyrd took a shaky breath, his fingers tightening just slightly around Azariah’s.

His voice trembled—yet somehow, the words came out clearly, one by one, in perfect Elvish.

His shoulders relaxed after the final word. The vow was complete.

Azariah looked up at him, soft light glowing through her veil.

Then, in her own voice—graceful, steady, and radiant—she returned the vow. Each word in Elvish flowed like a spring breeze, echoing gently through the courtyard.

The priest smiled warmly.

He raised his staff and announced in a rich, melodic tone, ”You may kiss the bride.”

The audience leaned forward.

Edwyrd inhaled sharply... and leaned down.

Their lips met—tender, respectful, and filled with shared promise.

In that very moment, the blessing circle glowed brilliantly. Light swirled up from their feet and along their joined arms.

Two identical glowing patterns—intricate marks of the elven bond—appeared on both their forearms. Elegant, leafy runes shimmered like tattoos made of moonlight.

The courtyard erupted in soft applause and graceful clapping.

Genevieve burst into tears on the spot. ”My son is married~!! Ahhhh~!! He’s all grown up!!” She wiped her eyes dramatically and hugged her husband like she was watching a romance drama.

Across the way, Viessa nodded quietly... then turned and leaned against Rhalyf’s shoulder, her composure cracking just slightly.

”I’m fine,” she whispered. ”I’m fine...”

”Of course,” Rhalyf replied gently, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

The applause softened as the couple turned to face the guests.

But just as the cheers faded—

Clink.

Azariah’s flower charm slipped from her wrist and fell to the ground.

She gasped softly and bent down to pick it up, gown flowing around her legs.

Liana noticed immediately.

She stepped forward instinctively, moving behind her elder sister with quiet precision. She gently gathered the back of Azariah’s gown, dusted it off, and adjusted the folds to keep it from creasing further.

”There. All done,” Liana whispered.

But just as she stepped back—

”LIANA!!! DON’T MARRY HIM!!!”

A loud voice shattered the serenity, echoing like a sudden bolt of thunder across the courtyard.

The entire venue froze.

Gasps rang out from all corners.

Liana turned slowly.

Gloria stood up halfway from her seat, mouth slightly open.

Azariah raised her veil in confusion, eyes darting toward the source.

Even Edwyrd flinched.

At the far end of the courtyard... a figure stood.

There—at the edge of the courtyard path, past the decorative gate—stood a familiar figure.

Buddy.

The enormous Pekko stood trembling, feathers ruffled. His breath came in huffs, legs wobbling from exhaustion. And on his back—

”Young... master...?” Gloria whispered, her eyes widening.

Javier.

His usually pristine noblewear was torn and dirtied, soaked with sweat and streaked with mud. His disheveled hair clung to his face, his eyes half-lidded from fatigue. He was gasping, one hand still clutching Buddy’s reins.

Even in such a state, he still looked absurdly beautiful—tall, striking, far too mature-looking for a thirteen-year-old. But at that moment—

His body suddenly tilted.

”No...!”

Liana’s heart stopped.

Gloria’s eyes went wide.

Javier lost his grip—and in the next second, his exhausted body slipped from Buddy’s back, falling straight to the marble pathway with a heavy thud.

”YOUNG MASTER!!!!”

Both girls screamed in perfect sync, their voices cutting through the wedding silence like a blade.

Liana dashed forward first, gown fluttering as she ran.

Gloria followed immediately behind, fan discarded, heels clicking across stone as her calm composure cracked like glass.

Several noble guests stood up in alarm.

Genevieve clutched her husband’s arm. ”W-Was that the boy Mylezra mentioned...!?”

Mylezra narrowed her eyes from the altar. ”So he did come...”

Liana dropped to her knees beside him, hands trembling as she turned Javier over.

His face was pale.

Gloria arrived moments later, gasping, already checking his pulse.

”He’s burning up!” she cried. ”His mana flow—it’s in chaos!”

”He forced himself...” Liana whispered, cupping his cheek.

Tears welled at the edge of her eyes.

Gloria’s voice broke. ”Young master... why...?”

Javier’s lips parted faintly.

”...Liana...Gloria...”

It was a whisper. Barely audible.

Then he lost consciousness entirely.
