Soul Emperor Martial God

Chapter 156: Chapter 155: The War Resumes

A beast roar?

Xiao Yi recalled the previous thunderous beast roar that had shaken the entire battlefield, even causing the city walls to tremble.

The owner of the beast roar was certainly no ordinary creature.

Most importantly, he felt a distinct sense of threat.

With his current strength, his Cultivation might only be at the Mysterious Profundity First Layer, but his Qi Spring was so vast that he could summon more True Qi in an instant than other Mysterious Profundity Ninth Layer Martial Artists.

Moreover, his Physical Strength was that of a Half-step Breaking Profound.

Combined, the two were enough to make him invincible below the Mystic Breakthrough Realm.

The only possibility that could pose a threat to him was that this demon beast was of the Mystic Breakthrough Realm.

”Roar.”

Suddenly, the earth-shaking beast roar sounded again.

All the Martial Artists present changed their expressions drastically.

”It’s happened, each time the beast roar sounds, the demon beasts all retreat.”

”Afterward, in no more than one or two hours, the beast roar will sound again.”

”It signifies that the demon beasts will mount another attack.”

”With each new attack, the number and strength of the demon beasts greatly increase.”

Liu Cangya exclaimed in alarm.

Indeed, the dense mass of demon beasts launched another assault on the city.

The swelling roars that surged like a tide sent chills down everyone’s spines.

”Look,” several members of the Demon Hunting Hall suddenly turned towards the distance, their expressions dramatically changing.

”The number of demon beasts is definitely above one hundred and fifty thousand.”

”There are no less than a hundred demon beasts with the power of the Mysterious Profundity Ninth Layer.”

”My god, how could it have increased to this extent?”

In the last attack, there were only about ten Mysterious Profundity Ninth Layer demon beasts, which had already stressed the Human Martial Artists to the brink.

Now, with the number reaching a hundred, the situation was definitely not optimistic.

”City Guards, assemble!” The City Lord of the Eighteen Cities immediately mobilized his forces.

”Demon Hunting Palace Law Enforcement Team, all Demon Hunting Teams, immediately gather,” ordered the personnel of the Demon Hunting Hall.

Other local families and powers also quickly mobilized their Martial Artists.

On the huge city walls, all forces, after that one beast roar, prepared themselves as if facing a formidable enemy with great speed.

Green Light City must absolutely not fall.

Xiao Yi, however, stood motionless.

Since the beginning, he had not spoken a word.

Now, he suddenly seized a member of the Demon Hunting Hall.

”Purple Flame Steward Yi Xiao, what’s wrong?” the Demon Hunting Hall member asked in surprise.

”It can’t be wrong,” Xiao Yi muttered to himself, ”that beast roar, the demon beast behind it, must possess the strength of the Mystic Breakthrough Realm.”

”Mystic Breakthrough Realm demon beast?” The Demon Hunting Hall member’s eyes widened.

A Mystic Breakthrough Realm demon beast was a far more terrifying existence than a Mystic Breakthrough Realm Martial Artist.

Half-step Breaking Profound would face instant death before them.

”Where are your Chief Stewards?” Xiao Yi asked urgently, ”With the current situation, it’s already beyond our capacity to resist.”

”We must have a Mystic Breakthrough Realm Martial Artist take command.”

”Otherwise, Green Light City is in peril.”

In the Eastern Desolate’s Eighteen Cities, there were many tough characters and powers, and the average strength of the Martial Artists was also higher than in other places.

For instance, Murong Ke of the Shengbao Trading House had Half-step Breaking Profound Cultivation.

The City Lords of the Eighteen Cities were all Mysterious Profundity Ninth Layer Martial Artists.

And so were the Captains of the various Demon Hunting Teams.

But that was all.

The entire Eighteen Cities of Eastern Desolate lacked a powerful clan like the Four Seasons City Bai Family and had no Mystic Breakthrough Realm Martial Artists.

The only one was the Chief Steward of the Demon Hunting Hall, a Sixth-Layer Mystic Breakthrough Realm Martial Artist.

If Xiao Yi’s guess was correct, then to handle this situation, they must summon the Chief Steward to take command.

”The Chief Steward, he’s not here,” the Demon Hunting Hall member replied anxiously.

”Not here?” Xiao Yi said in confusion, ”How can he be away when there’s such a huge demon beast attack on the city?”

The Demon Hunting Hall member explained, ”Half a month ago, the Sub Hall Masters called the nine Chief Stewards to the county for a meeting, and the Chief Steward has not yet returned.”

”Beast Tides occur every few years, and their timing is about the same, consistent for hundreds of years.”

”But this time, there were no signs at all, and it came months in advance.”

”The Chief Steward couldn’t have anticipated this, so...”

Xiao Yi interrupted, ”The Beast Tide erupted three days ago, didn’t you send anyone to notify us?”

”With the Chief Steward’s cultivation, even if you were in the county, returning to the Eighteen Cities of Eastern Desolate would take just half a day.”

Embarrassment on the faces of the Demon Hunting Hall personnel, they said, ”We originally thought that the situation was under control, so we didn’t plan on alarming the Chief Steward.”

”We hadn’t expected that, today, things would suddenly spiral out of control. This Beast Tide is much more troublesome than before.”

”The Demon Hunting Hall personnel urgently said, ”But we have already sent someone to report to the county.”

”It shouldn’t take much longer...”

”Only reporting today, by the time the Chief Steward is aware and hurries back, it’ll all be over.” Xiao Yi frowned and snapped.

”Purple Flame Steward, don’t be impatient.” At this point, Liu Cangya returned to persuade, ”Perhaps you’re mistaken, and there are no Mystic Breakthrough Realm demon beasts.”

”Those Mystic Breakthrough Realm demon beasts are incredibly cunning, having cultivated arduously for many years to gain Mystic Breakthrough strength.”

”They normally dwell deep within the Demon Beast Forest and rarely venture out.”

”They also fear death, scared that major figures among our human martial artists will slash them down.”

”I hope I am wrong too.” Xiao Yi interrupted, ”The battle has started, let’s deal with the demon beasts first.”

At this moment, tens of thousands of human martial artists had already assembled below the city.

The great battle kicked off once again.

And this time, the quantity and strength of the demon beasts far exceeded the last.

The human martial artists immediately found themselves at a disadvantage.

”We must take action; we can’t just stand by and watch,” Xiao Yi said gravely.

”No, we are the strongest force and must be reserved for last, to deal with unforeseen emergencies,” Murong Ke said.

”Bullshit.” Xiao Yi shouted, ”If we martial artists above the Ninth Layer of Mysterious Profundity don’t act now to hold back those hundreds of Fourth Level Peak demon beasts.”

”The human martial artists won’t last half an hour before they’re annihilated.”

At this, everyone became hesitant.

In such a massive scale of a demon beast siege, where martial artists were deeply mired in battle, without absolute overwhelming power, there was a high chance they wouldn’t come back.

”I’ll take on half of the Fourth Level Peak demon beasts; the rest of you handle the remainder, how about that?”

Xiao Yi said solemnly.

Below, the battle situation was extremely grim, with the human martial artists suffering one-sided casualties.

They couldn’t delay any longer.

”Brother Yi, I will join forces with you,” Ye Ming immediately said.

”Yi Xiao, steward, we will take on twenty,” said two captains from the Demon Hunting Palace Law Enforcement Team.

These two were Half-step Breaking Profound Martial Artists and were, apart from the Chief Steward, the strongest martial artists in the Eighteen Cities of Eastern Desolate Demon Hunting Hall.

At this point, Liu Cangya also stood forward, ”With that, there are only thirty left. Each of the eighteen city lords will deal with one.”

”Gale Demon Hunting Team, Ning Hao, will take two,” said Ning Hao.

”Gray Wolf Demon Hunting Team, Fengg Lie, will take two.”

”Silver Moon Demon Hunting Team, Xu Liuyun, will take two.”

”...”

The speakers were all famous captains of demon hunting teams from the Eighteen Cities of Eastern Desolate.

One by one, they came forward with high spirits, and the hundreds of Fourth Level Peak demon beasts were thus ’divided’ among them.

The entire scene, with only Murong Ke not stepping forward, turned his expression exceedingly unpleasant.

Xiao Yi couldn’t be bothered with him and shouted, ”Take action! Just stop these hundred Fourth Level Peak demon beasts.”

”The pressure on tens of thousands of martial artists will ease.”

Whoosh whoosh whoosh...

No sooner had Xiao Yi finished speaking, the strongest group of martial artists on the city wall immediately took action.

”Accursed beasts, give me your life.”

”Damn demon beasts, think not about breaching Green Light City.”

”...”

A host of strong fighters took action, each one impressively.

Sword energy, sword qi, palm wind...

Countless dazzling attacks were unleashed, and swathes of demon beasts were blasted into fragments.

”Fire Devouring Hundred Blades,” Xiao Yi commanded in his heart.

Innumerable Purple Flame Fire Blades cleaved through, leaving a trail of demon beasts turning to ash in the flames.

A path of fire was brutally forged.

The strong fighters, unobstructed, reached the Fourth Level Peak demon beasts and joined battle.
