The Fantastic Little Farmer

The Female Ghost stared at him for a moment, but did not strike again.

“Spiritual Qi! You stole the Spiritual Qi from my grave. Spiritual Qi cannot be siphoned away so quickly in such a short time, so you must have stolen something.”

The Female Ghost finally spoke bluntly. “Don’t deny it! I can sense a familiar aura on you that none of the others have! You are the only one who could have stolen it.”

“Ah? Is that so?” Zhang Yun scratched his head. “But… last night I was in a rush to save someone, and I was also afraid the air down in the tomb might be toxic, so I didn’t stay down there for long. I did touch the walls and the coffin, but that was it. You know I’m very timid. In fact, they were the ones robbing the Ancient Tomb. I only went over to save them because they were terrified. I didn’t even dare to open the coffin, alright?”

“…” The Female Ghost was speechless. If he was timid, then there was no one brave in this world!

“Then think about it. Where did you touch the coffin, or anywhere else, that caused such a huge change in you? I tested you just now, and you could keep up with my constant acceleration. You definitely weren’t this strong originally!”

Zhang Yun shook his head. “You’re underestimating me! I was already incredibly strong to begin with. Fighting ten or eight people is nothing for me. I was just chasing you just now, and it’s a place I’m familiar with. It’s really nothing.”

The Female Ghost fell silent for a moment; that seemed to make sense too.

Zhang Yun patted his chest. “If you don’t believe me, I can go back with you. If you want to drain me, you can. I won’t fight back.”

He had more Experience now. As soon as a fight started, he could determine whether the other party had murderous intent or was just probing him. The Female Ghost’s earlier strike was partly to scare him and partly to show off her long nails.

“You really don’t know?” His attitude made the Female Ghost a bit doubtful.

“Come on! Whether it’s draining my Yang Qi or Spiritual Qi, how do you want to do it? Do you need me to provide a big straw?”

Seeing Zhang Yun strike a coquettish pose as if offering himself up for the taking, and even mentioning a big straw, the Female Ghost leaped away in disgust, landing on a tree branch.

“Then leave!”

“Not coming? I might have unintentionally absorbed the Spiritual Qi from your coffin. You can extract my essence…”

“Hmph!” the Female Ghost scoffed lightly, floating directly toward the mountains and vanishing in an instant.

Zhang Yun gazed in the direction she left, stroking his chin in thought.

He didn’t get any perverted thrill from teasing the Female Ghost. His deliberate words just now were meant as a probe. An ancient Female Ghost probably wouldn’t understand those innuendos, right? Only modern women would get it instantly.

So, was she really a Female Ghost, or… a descendant of the Ancient Tomb?

But the whole situation was still a bit bizarre, and the Ancient Tomb was quite far away. He decided not to run over to verify it right then, choosing instead to go back and rest.

On the way home, he walked slowly, intentionally keeping an eye on his surroundings. Even after returning to the village, he didn’t detect a single trace of being followed.

When he passed Xiuqin’s House, the dog in the courtyard came to the gate and barked once. Upon recognizing it was Zhang Yun, it lay back down.

Zhang Yun casually glanced at the window, only to be surprised. The previously dark window suddenly lit up!

He could faintly make out a silhouette!

The thick curtains were drawn tight; only someone standing right behind them could cast such a shadow.

Was Xiuxun still awake?

Could she have been watching from behind the curtains just now?

Zhang Yun waved toward the window, flashing a smile regardless of whether she could see him or not.

By the time he reached his door, Zhang Yun felt embarrassed.

When he had poked his head out the window earlier, the Female Ghost had suddenly lunged up. He had jumped straight out the window to chase her; there was no time to grab his keys. His dad had drunk the Medicinal Wine and was already fast asleep, so waking him up would be hard to explain.

Looking at the courtyard wall and then at the second floor, Zhang Yun felt somewhat helpless. With a little care, he could climb over the courtyard gate, but scaling the outside wall to climb into the second-floor window wouldn’t be as simple as jumping out of it.

He envied the Female Ghost’s ability to drift around effortlessly.

It was all Xu Jin and the others’ fault! Qi Luo too. None of them knew any Lightweight Skill or anything like that; otherwise, he could have learned a thing or two from them.

If he had known, he wouldn’t have come back. He should have just gone to sleep in the wooden cabin. Now…

Zhang Yun looked at Xiuxun’s window again. The light was already off, making the previous moment seem like an illusion. That Female Ghost was truly miraculous; running across someone’s roof without making a single sound…

He smacked his forehead. He had been too careless! Why had he been so agreeable just now? He should have fought her, if only to take the opportunity to learn some Body Technique or something.

However… he was just returning to his own home now. Climbing the wall wasn’t illegal. Aside from the possibility of Xiuxun seeing him, no one else would know.

Zhang Yun immediately grabbed the stainless steel courtyard gate and climbed up. The steel gate wasn’t easy to scale; there were sharp points at the top, and one careless move could leave him impaled and thoroughly ruined in the rear.

But it was manageable. As long as he had the strength to hold on and was careful, it was still easier to climb than a wall topped with glass shards.

Once inside the courtyard, he looked at his bedroom window and wondered if he should find a stool.

If he went through the balcony, he could actually jump up and try to grab the ledge. But the balcony had security grilles, so even if he managed to climb up, he couldn’t get in. The bedroom window was over a meter higher, and there was no foothold below it.

At that moment, his phone vibrated. Zhang Yun took it out and saw it was Xiuxun!

It was rare for Xiuxun to initiate a message. He immediately opened it.

“What are you doing?”

Xiuxun had been woken by the dog barking earlier and saw Zhang Yun run out. Worried that something had happened to him, she had stayed awake until he returned.

She had turned on the light just now as a response when she saw him looking over. Figuring she could pass it off as a coincidence, she had quickly turned it off again.

But watching him, she saw him climbing the wall into his own house. Scaling the courtyard gate was one thing, but now it looked like he was going to climb through the window? Did he forget his keys?

She couldn’t help but send a message, even if it exposed the fact that she was watching.

“Did you forget your keys when you went out just now?”

Zhang Yun was typing, preparing to explain, but seeing that she had already guessed it, he deleted his drafted text.

“Yeah. I’m going to climb in through the window.”

“That’s very dangerous!” Xiuxun replied immediately. “You should just wake up Uncle Fu!”

“I’m afraid he won’t be able to get back to sleep if I wake him up. I should be fine if I grab a stool.”

A stool? Xiuxun grew anxious. “Find a ladder! Just put it away Ming Tian morning.”

A ladder? Zhang Yun thought it made sense. Since it was something he rarely used, it hadn’t crossed his mind.

“Xiuxun, you’re a genius!”

He waved toward her window, found a ladder in the storage shed in the corner of the courtyard, propped it up next to his window, and climbed up effortlessly.

Back in his room, Zhang Yun waved again out the dark window.

“Did you jump out the window earlier?” Xiuxun sent another message.

Zhang Yun guessed she hadn’t seen it and didn’t want to scare her. “I went out through the door. I thought I heard someone and was worried it might be a thief, so I chased after them to take a look. I closed the door behind me and forgot my keys.”

The explanation sounded perfectly normal, so Xiuxun didn’t overthink it.

“Going to sleep.”

Since Zhang Yun was enjoying this rare chat with her and figured she wouldn’t fall asleep immediately, he continued messaging. “Thanks for your help this afternoon. Everyone else was just watching the show; no one else thought to step up and speak for me.”

“No need. I was just telling the truth. You have a beautiful girlfriend; you wouldn’t be interested in her.”

Zhang Yun felt a little awkward. “When others say it, I’m too lazy to explain, but she’s actually not my girlfriend. It was just a joke. With her great background, she could never be interested in me anyway.”

“Going to sleep.” Xiuxun didn’t seem to want to talk about Ouyang Mingruo. She sent a goodnight emoji and stopped messaging.

Zhang Yun continued to look at her dark window, unsure if she was still watching him from behind the curtains. He stood by his window and waved toward hers.

Then, he found it somewhat amusing. Waving out the window in the middle of the night—if anyone who didn’t know the situation saw him, wouldn’t they think he was possessed?
