The Fantastic Little Farmer

Zhang Yun was actually a little disappointed. This white shadow could understand human speech and seemed to have some scruples. Although it moved extremely fast, flashing through the alleys and houses with a terrifying, supernatural effect, it was completely exposed out here in the wilderness.

This was definitely a person, not a ghost!

This piqued his curiosity again. Since it didn’t look like someone from the Donghuang Sect seeking revenge, who was pretending to be a ghost?

However, what frustrated him was that even though the figure was in plain sight in the wilderness, its speed was still faster than his! Zhang Yun continuously accelerated, but he could only barely manage to keep from losing it. Closing the distance seemed impossible.

If they reached the mountains ahead, the faint light of the night sky wouldn’t reach them, and rocks and trees would provide endless hiding spots.

Should he shoot it? As long as it wasn’t a real ghost, a gunshot would definitely be effective!

However, after a moment’s thought, he gave up on the idea. Given the distance and lighting, the chances of hitting the target were low. Furthermore, the other party was moving rapidly; the slight delay of taking a gun out of his Personal Space would allow it to run even further away. Besides, up until now, the figure had merely startled him by pretending to be a ghost. He still didn’t know if the other party had malicious intentions, so shooting directly might be going too far.

As he pondered this, they were nearing the foot of the mountain. They were far from the village, and there were no cornfields here, so he shouldn’t scare off any midnight lovers. Zhang Yun simply shouted at the top of his lungs.

“You’re here for me, aren’t you? If you miss tonight, you won’t get another chance to find me!”

He had run so fast that he was panting as he spoke. The white shadow ahead naturally heard him. It didn’t stop, but its speed slowed down slightly. Seeing that his words had an effect, Zhang Yun continued his pursuit.

Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, the white shadow leaped into a tree and seemed to stop.

“Who exactly are you? Why are you pretending to be a ghost? What do you want with me?” Zhang Yun kept a distance of a dozen meters from the tree, vaguely seeing the white shadow hiding within the dark foliage.

The white shadow didn’t answer, seemingly observing him. Since the figure was in the shadows, Zhang Yun couldn’t clearly see the situation despite his excellent eyesight.

“Out of breath, huh? Then take a rest before you speak. Think it over carefully. I’ll give you one minute!” Zhang Yun gasped for air, adjusting his rapid breathing.

That sprint might have been the fastest he had ever run. More importantly, running along the field ridges in the dead of night meant he could easily step into a mud pit, ditch, or soft soil. It definitely hadn’t been an easy run.

“Why did you dig up my grave?”

Hearing this, Zhang Yun marveled. The other party wasn’t panting at all. How could they run so fast and still be so relaxed? What incredible lungs they must have!

He thought, “Fuck! Is that the main point?”

“Why did you dig up my grave?”… His mind reeled!

“Y-you mean… the Ancient Tomb from last night? That’s your… grave?”

If they were in the village or the fields, Zhang Yun would have felt a bit better. But now, at the foot of this mountain, those words made his scalp tingle. His current physical fitness far exceeded that of an ordinary person, yet he was panting from the run, whereas the other party’s tone was calm and completely unruffled… Could it be that the speed he had barely managed to keep up with wasn’t the white shadow’s limit, and it had just been deliberately stringing him along?

His earlier confidence had stemmed from the fact that the figure’s speed hadn’t seemed supernatural. If it had deliberately lured him here… was it even human?

However, he didn’t panic. At worst, a gun wouldn’t be able to kill it. But he could always hide in his Personal Space. A ghost couldn’t kill him either!

“You stole my things,” the white shadow’s voice drifted over again.

This time, Zhang Yun focused his attention. He could tell that this steady voice was very cold—it was a woman’s voice. Was this a white-clothed Female Ghost? Weren’t the ones in red supposed to be the vengeful spirits?

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Yesterday, someone did dig open an Ancient Tomb, but only one person went in. He immediately fainted inside and didn’t steal anything from you.”

Zhang Yun quickly recalled the situation inside the tomb yesterday: entering through the tombstone opening, there was a pit. Inside the pit, a passage wound downward for several meters, leading to a tomb chamber suspending a coffin.

“When I crawled in and found him, he was already unconscious. He must have fainted from the fall when he dropped in. He didn’t steal—”

“If not him, then it was you.”

Zhang Yun once again felt that unnatural sensation of being stared intently at. It seemed this white-clothed Female Ghost had already marked him as her target.

“I didn’t take a single thread, and I even helped bury your grave back up. Honestly, I find graveyard stuff to be bad luck. I wouldn’t touch it at all.”

The white-clothed Female Ghost seemed to sneer slightly. “Are you sure you didn’t touch anything?”

Zhang Yun was momentarily speechless. “That was just a figure of speech. It’s not like there’d be needles and threads in a tomb anyway. I slid down to save someone, and the space inside was so tiny. Bumping into the walls or the coffin is completely normal. I even had to drag the guy back up. If I didn’t touch the passage, what was I supposed to do? Fly?”

The Female Ghost fell silent for a moment, seemingly accepting this explanation.

“What did you take?” she asked again.

Zhang Yun smiled bitterly. “Senior… Ghost Sister, even if I bumped into the coffin, I absolutely didn’t open it. I have no idea what was around the coffin. At the very least, when I went in, there was nothing there. The guy who went in first didn’t look like he had hidden anything on him either. I’m telling you the complete truth.”

“If you didn’t steal anything, why did you apologize for the intrusion and say thank you?”

The moment the Female Ghost said this, Zhang Yun’s scalp tingled again!

Although it was almost impossible to find someone this capable, based solely on what had been said earlier, it was theoretically possible that Jin Lu and his crew had hired someone to prank him. But what she had just said—only Zhang Yun knew about that!

At that time, he had leeched the Energy contained within the coffin, and the Mysterious Iron Ring’s Energy had faintly risen from 4% to 10%. Having gained such a massive harvest, he naturally thanked the coffin.

“No offense intended, thank you, senior. I’ll restore the outside and try my best to keep people from intruding!” The only one who could have heard that line was the ghost inside the coffin…

Jin Lu had definitely been unconscious at the time; he had only woken up while being pulled up. If Jin Lu hadn’t been unconscious, he would have recognized his voice and wouldn’t have been so terrified that he crawled away.

“I said ‘no offense intended.’ Plus, my friend went in first and didn’t get killed or anything, so I was just being polite and thanking you. If you really lost something, it should have been inside the coffin. When you got up, did the coffin feel like it had been tampered with?”

Recalling the scene inside the tomb last night and imagining the image of her crawling out of the coffin… Zhang Yun felt a chill run down his spine. Having to push open the coffin to crawl out, then dig through the grave mound to emerge… That wouldn’t be a ghost; that’d be a zombie, right? A ghost should be a permeable Energy entity, shouldn’t it?

Zhang Yun felt he could no longer remain passive. He asked in return, “Ghost Sister, since you heard my words, you must have woken up back then. So why didn’t you jump out and catch me right then and there? Furthermore, what burial items did you actually lose? I’ll buy a few extra identical ones online and stuff them in for you!”

The Female Ghost fell silent for a moment. “I don’t know what I lost either, but you definitely took it!”
