Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 1644: Chapter 379: Chen Jie: What? You Want Me to Be the Sect Hierarch? (Part 3)

Promises are the most unreliable things in the world; you can’t expect everyone to be an honest gentleman.

So you can just listen to promises, but if you take them too seriously, you’ll inevitably be the one who gets hurt.

One must understand that a promise is nothing. After Zhu Yuanzhang founded the country, he issued the Scarlet-Iron Covenant claiming to grant immunity from death, but who did he spare? Ultimately, the right to interpret it lies with the one who makes the promise.

If Chen Jie truly believed Du Zundao’s words, then he’d be a real fool.

You must know that Du Zundao’s relationship with me now is one of enemies, not allies. Even if I really gave him the Qiankun Great Method, he wouldn’t consider me as part of his circle.

But Liu Futong is different. They’re currently in an absolute slump, and if I help them now, it’s truly like offering coal in the snow.

That’s a friendship forged through hardship, which is truly worth praising.

Such friendship can be solid as a rock. Not to mention that Liu Futong’s additional value is high too; his good friends are my good big brothers Peng Yingyu and Monk Peng.

If I really got close to Du Zundao now, how could I face Monk Peng in the future?

Remember, Monk Peng may no longer be part of the Zoroastrian Sect, but don’t forget, his ties with the sect are tangled and complicated.

If things were to be pursued in the future, there would be no good end for Chen Jiusi either.

With these thoughts, how could Chen Jie still be uncertain about the right choice? At this moment, Chen Jie looked at Du Zundao: ”Dharma King Du, honestly, your conditions are indeed very tempting, and deep down, I really want to be your successor.”

Du Zundao replied: ”Then good, shall we consider it a done deal?”

Chen Jie said: ”Dharma King, although you’re not a good person, I don’t want to deceive you. Your offer is very generous, but unfortunately, I cannot agree.”

”Hmm? Why?”

Du Zundao coldly asked. Chen Jie said: ”I just thought about it; the Dharma King is like a fierce tiger, cunning and ferocious. I can’t ensure the Dharma King will keep his promises, so I won’t accept your conditions.”

Du Zundao, with a dark face, said: ”Friend, do you know what your choice signifies?”

Chen Jie said: ”Of course I know, but even so, I must choose this path.”

Du Zundao: ”So, you’re choosing to drink the penalty wine instead of the toast then?”

Chen Jie looked at Du Zundao: ”Dharma King, you’re scaring me; I’m not brave.”

Du Zundao gave Chen Jie a glance after hearing this and said: ”Hehe, fine, I originally wanted to give you a chance, but I didn’t expect you to cherish it so little. In that case, don’t blame me for coming over and taking your life.”

”Come over and take my life? Hahaha... Dharma King, if you had the courage, you would’ve already done it; you wouldn’t be waiting until now to negotiate terms with me.”

Du Zundao squinted at Chen Jie and said: ”Chen Jiusi, you’re playing with fire.”

Huh?

Chen Jie was stunned, not expecting Du Zundao to call out his name at this moment; until now, Du Zundao had been calling him ”friend,” as if he didn’t know who he was.

Du Zundao seemed to understand Chen Jie’s thoughts and said: ”Are you curious why I know your name? Hehe, actually, when you used Kanglong Youhui, I already knew your identity, but I didn’t expose you.”

The idea was to leave some space for each other. Now that you’re so unappreciative, I won’t indulge you anymore. Chen Jiusi, have you thought it through? If today you really decide to break ties with me, you have forces outside, you have a wife and children—are you not afraid of me, and are they not either?”

Du Zundao, looking at Chen Jie with a cold voice, said. Chen Jie, hearing this, laughed coldly: ”Du Zundao, you don’t need to scare me. Consider first, without getting the Qiankun Great Method, how will you secure your position as the sect hierarch before speaking to me.”

”Hehe, even without the Qiankun Great Method, I am the rightful sect hierarch of the Zoroastrian Sect; no one can change this reality. If you were sensible, you’d accept my conditions. If you’re not sensible, hehe...”

Du Zundao’s eyes were icy cold: ”A year from today will be your death anniversary!”

Chen Jie looked at Du Zundao: ”So, are you planning to jump?”

Chen Jie looked at Du Zundao, who said nothing, his eyes showing a fierce determination, as if he had made some decision and was ready to leap at any moment.

With such thoughts, Chen Jie said nothing, merely glanced at Du Zundao with a confident smile and said: ”Dharma King Du, have you thought it through? This jump might not be simple. If you dare to jump, I’ll use the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms on you who has no leverage in mid-air. How much chance do you have to get past me?”

Du Zundao’s face changed upon hearing this, but Chen Jie didn’t stop attacking, continuing: ”Oh, right, besides me, don’t forget, there’s also Old Tortoise in this Yin Yang circulation. This Old Tortoise seems quite hungry, the chains clattering loudly when bitten. I wonder if the Dharma King’s body can withstand a few bites from Old Tortoise?”

Du Zundao’s gaze focused, and his courage, which had inflated inside, dissipated by half.

Chen Jie casually picked up a stone from the ground and said: ”Hmm, just right, there’s a stone here. Let me help Dharma King test how strong this Old Tortoise is.”

With that said, Chen Jie grabbed the stone and promptly threw it across.

Whoosh!

As the stone flew to the center of the Yin Yang circulation, the next moment, Old Tortoise’s flame pulse suddenly struck the stone, followed by a loud bang, instantly smashing the stone into pieces.
