Chapter 1611: Chapter 371: Battling the Giant Beast, Obtaining the Essence of Fire

Boom, a terrifying explosion rang out, and immediately a monstrous and terrifying creature emerged from the magma in front of Chen Jiusi and the others. The creature roared skyward, seemingly very displeased at being rudely awakened.

In the next moment, it opened its mouth wide, and with a swift roll, hundreds of Flame Scorpions were swallowed whole.

Witnessing this scene, the surrounding Flame Scorpions frantically tried to escape, retreating like a tide in a frenzied panic.

Chen Jie and the others also looked dumbfounded at this sight. Who would have thought that just as they were escaping the tiger’s den, an even more formidable creature awaited them?

Chen Jie observed the beast in front of him. It appeared to be some kind of giant lizard, about a dozen meters long and about five meters tall, looking like a colossal dinosaur.

Its body was fiery red, with black spots on its back resembling the color of rocks. It had been lurking in the magma, and no one had even noticed its presence.

Gazing at the creature’s form, Chen Jie felt a profound sense of dread. This was indeed a terrifying creature.

Furthermore, it seemed this creature fed on the Flame Scorpions surrounding it.

The Flame Scorpions, seeing this ferocious tyrant awake, scrambled to escape, scattering like birds and beasts.

Swoosh...

Suddenly, all the Flame Scorpions and other creatures vanished, with some Flame Scorpions diving back into the magma, leaving the area behind Chen Jie in silence.

Although the threat of the Flame Scorpions was temporarily eliminated, the massive flame lizard was not so easily dealt with.

The enormous lizard had eaten hundreds of Flame Scorpions, but clearly was not satisfied. Its crimson tongue flickered, emitting black smoke from its mouth. Its small, crystal-like eyes scanned the surroundings for more food, spotting the unfamiliar two-legged creatures before it, which seemed quite appetizing.

Clap clap clap...

Soon after, the giant lizard rose, standing over the magma.

Despite its enormous body, it moved across the magma as if it were flat ground, thanks to the structure of its feet. Its feet were shaped like large fans, with a broad surface area that allowed it to stand on the magma without difficulty.

Once upright, the giant lizard fixed its gaze on Chen Jie and the others, causing both Liu Caidie and Han Ling’er to gasp in shock.

Liu Caidie swallowed nervously and said, ”This is a Fire Essence Beast!”

Liu Caidie had named the beast in front of them—indeed, it was a Fire Essence Beast, a creature that fed on flames, capable of consuming magma for nutrients and devouring Flame Scorpions.

It was a truly fearsome monster, reportedly possessing combat power akin to the Dragon Realm, making it almost invincible within the Ruins.

Thinking of this, Liu Caidie took a deep breath, feeling a chill down her spine as cold sweat dripped down her back.

She turned to Han Ling’er.

”Ling’er, we’re in trouble now.”

Han Ling’er sighed wryly, ”Indeed, our luck has run out. To think we’d encounter a Fire Essence Beast. I recall our doctrine records mention that of the twenty-two expeditions into the Flame Hell, only one encountered a Fire Essence Beast, which resulted in a total annihilation.”

Liu Caidie said, ”The Fire Essence Beast is irritable by nature, and we’ve disturbed its rest and prey. I think it’s now treating us as its prey!”

Hearing this, the two exchanged wry smiles.

Seeing the scene, the Commander of the guards understood they were at a crossroads, gritting his teeth as he said, ”Saintess, Miss Liu, do not worry. I will distract this beast.”

Upon hearing this, Han Ling’er and Liu Caidie were both shocked. ”You’ll die,” they said.

The Commander replied, ”Heh, death, what is there to fear?”

After that, the Commander, with a sorrowful expression, said, ”Saintess, Miss Liu, I am here to clear any obstacles for you. Unfortunately, I cannot accompany you further. If you achieve Holy Merit and return to see Ming King, please look after my wife and child.”

”This... Sigh~ Rest assured, I will never forget anyone who has contributed greatly to the Holy Sect!”

With that, Han Ling’er felt somewhat downcast, as she hadn’t expected to lose a trusted aide so soon after entering the Ruins.

The Commander turned to his guards, saying, ”After I leave, you must protect the Saintess, understood?”

The guards bowed and said, ”Rest assured, Commander, we will serve dutifully until the end.”

Seeing this, the Commander said, ”Good, then I...”

The Commander, with a sorrowful expression, intended to use himself as bait to attract the Fire Essence Beast and create a path for escape for the others. But in the next moment, he witnessed something that almost made his eyes pop out.

He saw that the person he looked down upon the most, the cripple, had seized the spear from his hands and was jabbing it into the Fire Essence Beast’s rear.

Roar... Roar...

The Fire Essence Beast, attacked, howled in pain towards the sky, causing the entire Molten Lava Cave to shake, yet the cripple did not flee. He seized the opportunity and jabbed the Fire Essence Beast once more, inflicting pain so great that the beast turned to bite him.

Seeing this, the Commander was utterly dumbfounded. How could he dare?
