Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 1538: Chapter 350: You Don’t Even Know Grandpa Chen? How Are You a Bodyguard? (Part 2)

Upon reaching the prefecture, generally it is the managers in the Wolf Smoke Realm who are in charge; those in the Rainbow Realm are high-status bigshots.

Even though the Xu family has been in business for generations, it’s already quite remarkable that they can afford martial masters from the Wolf Smoke Realm.

Therefore, Master Li is the backbone of this convoy.

Just as the convoy was preparing to depart, suddenly a person rushed over from outside the city, riding a poor-quality horse and dressed in coarse clothing, looking like a Jianghu guest.

As per the Factory Director’s introduction, he has a distant cousin who roams the Jianghu and hopes to come to Zhen Nan Escort Agency to gain experience and learn the rules.

The man approached and asked, ”Is this Zhen Nan Escort Agency?”

Upon hearing this, an escort replied, ”Yes.”

Chen Jie said, ”Recommended by Factory Director Zhao.”

Upon hearing this, the escort said, ”You must be Factory Director Zhao’s cousin, we’ve been waiting for you for half a day, go meet the vice leader and escort leader quickly.”

Chen Jie was surprised to hear this; why do they speak in reverse? Is the vice leader more senior than the escort leader?

Chen Jie looked puzzled, but still responded, ”Alright.”

Soon, Chen Jie was brought to the two escort leaders; at that moment, Chen Jie dismounted, wearing a bamboo hat on his head.

Vice Leader Old Ma glared and said, ”We’ve been waiting for you for half a day, escort masters can’t be late, didn’t you know?”

”And, who told you to wear a hat, take it off.”

Old Ma looked stern, as if trying to intimidate Chen Jie.

Chen Jie wanted to keep a low profile and didn’t want to cause trouble, so he complied and took off his hat, revealing his slightly made-up face, which he hadn’t changed much, just darkened slightly.

Since Chen Jie usually kept a low profile, many common folks and low-level Jianghu people in Huangzhou Prefecture hadn’t seen him; Chen Jie didn’t think anyone would recognize him.

But just when Chen Jie took off his hat, the previously unenthusiastic escort leader widened his eyes in disbelief.

He even discreetly blinked, and upon looking at Chen Jie again, he was filled with shock.

Chen Jie originally thought no one would recognize him. Unexpectedly, this escort leader seemed to recognize him, so he gave the escort leader a look.

The escort leader wasn’t stupid; he immediately understood. For someone like the actual controller of Huangzhou Prefecture to disguise himself and enter such a small team, clearly he didn’t want his identity revealed.

So he said nothing.

However, Vice Leader Old Ma didn’t know Chen Jie’s identity; he just said to Chen Jie, ”Since you’re following the escort team, you should understand the rules. Feeding the horses is your duty, and be attentive, serve tea and water, and when you see an escort master is tired, go and massage their legs...”

Seeing Vice Leader Old Ma being verbose, even fitting the pattern of bullying the newcomer onto Chen Jie.

The escort leader was alarmed and immediately said, ”Alright, alright, I’ll arrange him, Old Ma, you just focus on escorting.”

Saying this, he directly pulled Vice Leader Ma to one side and said, ”Old Ma, he’s Factory Director Zhao’s cousin, are you trying to make Factory Director Zhao look bad?”

”He’s late, he ought to learn a lesson from it.”

The escort leader said, ”Alright, alright, don’t worry about him, just let him follow me.”

Vice Leader Ma glanced at the escort leader and said, ”Okay then, let’s start the escort.”

Speaking, he waved forward, and the runners immediately sounded the copper gong.

Dang!

With a sound, the leading runner shouted, ”Start the escort~”

Then all the escort masters chorused, ”Together!”

The whole team then started moving; Chen Jie witnessed the escort team’s departure for the first time and found it quite interesting, and at that moment, the escort leader came over, discreetly pulled aside the nearby escort masters, and said, ”Together the escort departs, in half a year Jianghu will safely return.”

Chen Jie turned his head upon hearing the voice, and the escort leader immediately made a covert salute to Chen Jie and said, ”Sun Cong greets Guild Leader Chen.”

Chen Jie glanced at him and said, ”You recognize me?”

The escort leader immediately replied, ”I am Sun Bu’er’s disciple and had the fortune to see Guild Leader Chen’s true face.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie said, ”Oh, Sun Bu’er’s disciple.”

Who Sun Bu’er was, Chen Jie knew very well, a prominent figure in Mianshui County, Zhou Chu’s father-in-law, and back in Mianshui he had quite the status and respect.

”Oh, didn’t expect to be Sun the Hero’s disciple, unexpected to meet an old acquaintance.”

Sun Cong said, ”I never expected to encounter Guild Leader Chen, truly my good fortune shines, Guild Leader Chen, what are you up to?”

Chen Jie said, ”Accompanying you guys to Tianshui, as for other matters, don’t ask.”

Sun Cong said, ”Yes, yes, I understand, the more we know, the more dangerous it becomes.”

Chen Jie smirked and said, ”A disciple of Sun’s gate, indeed quick to understand.”

Sun Cong replied with a smile, ”Yes, yes, thank you for the praise, Guild Leader Chen.”

Chen Jie said, ”Alright, you carry on with your tasks and make sure no flaws are detected on the road.”

Sun Cong said, ”Rest assured, Guild Leader, I can handle this.”

Saying so, the convoy moved forward, this time heading towards Tianshui, requiring passage through Shanxi Road and straight to Shanxi Road.

On the road, Chen Jie was quite leisurely, witnessing much hardship among the common folk as they traveled.

After traveling for a day, the convoy rested; the carriages surrounded by the escort team in the middle, fires were lit on the outskirts, and they started cooking.

Chen Jie sat by a fire, warming himself, when a woman approached, arrogantly said to him, ”Today was all about waiting for you, hence the convoy departed half an hour late, right?”

Hearing this, Chen Jie immediately stood up and said, ”Sorry about that, today my mistake, I apologize to the boss.”
