”Run!”

The two spies saw Chen Jiusi look towards them and were so scared that they screamed and turned to flee. They were just spies and certainly didn’t want to lose their lives here!

”Run?”

A cold smile appeared on Chen Jie’s face.

In fact, right from the start, he had noticed the presence of these two spies, but at that time, Gu Qingfeng was the main target, so he didn’t pay attention to them.

But now, things were different. He had inadvertently revealed that he knew the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms. If they escaped, wouldn’t his secret be exposed?

With this thought, Chen Jie’s gaze sharpened, and he grabbed the long spear beside him with his hand.

With a whoosh, he threw it.

Then he executed the Thunder Step, overtaking the flying spear, and arrived behind the two men.

The next moment, he grabbed the long spear, and with a flash of cold light, he thrust the spear through one of the fleeing spies and then rested the second thrust on the shoulder of the other.

”Grandpa Chen, spare me, spare me!”

The other spy was so frightened that he collapsed on the ground, kneeling and knocking his head desperately.

Chen Jie asked, ”Who sent you here?”

”Nan, Guild Leader Nan.”

”Hm? What for?”

”We originally planned to bring a group of woodcutters to witness that Gu Qingfeng was the murderer. But then Gu Qingfeng received a pigeon-transmitted letter from within the guild and suddenly changed the location. We could only follow and find a way to send the message back.”

”Hm, you’re quite honest!”

Chen Jie affirmed the spy’s answer, and the spy immediately said, ”Thank you, Grandpa Chen, do you need spies? I can infiltrate into...”

With a slicing noise!

Chen Jie swiftly thrust the spear through the spy, not even letting him finish his words.

Could he trust someone who could so easily betray their own boss?

Besides, the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms was a secret that could not be leaked. They had to die!

However, Chen Jie understood from their words; this matter was arranged by Nan Batian. That meant the grudge should be attributed to Nan Batian. Very well, Nan Batian, since that’s the case, we have something to discuss.

Besides this matter, Chen Jie’s mind was contemplating another issue.

That was that his information system seemed to have a loophole!

Indeed, it had a loophole.

It was merely an information system, and it could only provide the status of an information refresh.

And this status could be influenced by his own actions.

For instance, because he had strategically cornered Nan Batian, forcing the latter to change his plans, the assassination location went from Yang Family Town to Twenty Miles Inn.

In other words, his choices could potentially influence the direction of the entire piece of information.

In the past, he would also refresh some predictive information, like when he first earned his start-up capital, by waiting in Wild Wolf Gully for Doctor Bai to sprain his ankle.

The information was a predictive kind, and it told Chen Jie about the event, which turned out to be very accurate. He waited and Doctor Bai did show up. Why wasn’t it changed?

Because he did not alter the course of the storyline.

For example, if he had stopped Doctor Bai at his doorstep earlier and prevented him from going up the mountain.

Which meant, he could become that special existence that could change the direction of the storyline in the information.

Like this time, if he hadn’t arranged things against Nan Batian but pretended to be ignorant, then Gu Qingfeng’s assassination location would definitely still be Yang Family Town.

Realizing this, Chen Jie understood.

Information was only a statement, not an immutable rule.

As long as he participated, he could provoke a series of reactions. The world was real, not a designed one, and people were not gods; they could not achieve perfection.

Thus, information only served as assistance, not something that could defy the heavens and change fate.

One still needed to rely on their own struggles to succeed. What one fought for was what truly existed.

Chen Jie thought thus, gaining a new understanding of the information system.

The information system currently could classify the information it provided into two main categories.

One was past tense, the other was future tense.

Past tense referred to events that had already occurred, which were unchangeable, making the information one hundred percent certain and flawless.

But future tense was different. Future tense contained predictive information, like Doctor Bai falling into Wild Wolf Gully tomorrow or Gu Qingfeng ambushing Bai Wenjing in Yang Family Town three days later.

Such information was futuristic and could be altered.

And it wasn’t just himself who could change it; it was a chain reaction. Like this time, his arrangements in Mianshui County prompted a reflexive change from Nan Batian and his cohorts, altering the assassination spot.

This was unpredictable.

Otherwise, this wouldn’t be an information system, but a God system.

Chen Jie nodded lightly, at last understanding the information with a renewed clarity.

Chen Jie thought, moving his head a bit when suddenly he felt a heaviness in his brain followed by blurring vision.

Alarmed, he thought, ”No good, the profound poison from the Rainstorm Pear Blossom Needle has acted!”

Just now, in his eagerness to kill Gu Qingfeng, he had shifted the inner strength suppressing the toxin, resulting in its spread.

The poison from the Rainstorm Pear Blossom Needle was potent, being one of the signature hidden weapons of the Tang Sect with exceptional toxicity.

Even an Energy Transformation Master wouldn’t be immune if hit.

Fortunately, only one needle had hit him, and it was just a scratch rather than a deep puncture. If it had been the full effect of the Rainstorm Pear Blossom with twenty-seven silver needles fired all at once, hitting their mark, and with the toxin’s dosage doubled, even someone in the Holding Core Realm might be killed, right?
