Chapter 402: Chapter 150 Huang Wan’er VS Su Yunjin (10,000 Words for Subscription)_3

Looking at this instructor, whose status was far inferior to that of the manager of Tiger Head Street with real power, the fact that he was directly under Chen Jie’s command meant that his coming here indicated his initiative to get closer to Chen Jie, suggesting that he could be entrusted with important tasks in the future!

On the contrary, if he stayed on Tiger Head Street, he could indeed dominate, but when Chen Jie took off again, he would be unable to keep up and might forever be just a manager of Tiger Head Street.

But it was different with the White Tiger Guards.

That would mean he belonged to Chen Jie’s direct lineage.

Therefore, Lu Rong’s choice was very astute; he forsook short-term benefits to become a core figure under Chen Jie and, coupled with the bond of sworn brothers with Chen Jie, as long as he didn’t act too out of line, his future prospects were bright!

Naturally, Lu Rong’s actions were beneficial to Chen Jie as well, who could now unify the planning of the entire White Tiger Hall’s businesses.

Chen Jie virtually entrusted all these businesses to Zhou Chu, who acted as Chen Jie’s manager of all kinds of industries.

Xiao Hu had a high Martial Arts talent and strong abilities, and was in charge of military affairs.

Zhou Chu was versatile and adaptable with a good management capability, so aside from military matters, he was given control of some administrative affairs within the guild.

Moreover, the industries of White Tiger Hall were not to be underestimated, including Nan Lake Salt Field, North Mountain Iron Mine, four streets, and three village fisheries.

When combined, these businesses could justifiably be called the third largest guild in Mianshui County.

Chen Jie had given all personnel, except military talent, to Zhou Chu, thus Zhou Chu suddenly had over four hundred additional people under him, all once disciples of White Tiger Hall, and Chen Jie, finding there weren’t enough hands, was ready to recruit another one hundred disciples from the subordinate villages to come to the city.

Hence, Zhou Chu might have a following of over five hundred people and become a significant figure in Mianshui County.

Chen Jie also bestowed Feng Xuan’s former residence to Zhou Chu and gave Zheng Chuan’s house to Xiao Hu.

These two were his own left and right arms.

Xiao Hu didn’t want the house, saying he didn’t wish to be too far from Chen Jie because not only did he serve as the chief of the White Tiger Guards, but he also served as the commander of Chen Jie’s twelve-person guard, equivalent to the former position of Uncle Fu.

By the way, it should be mentioned that Peng Shizhong’s guards were known as the Twelve Eagle Guards, but since Xiao Hu was leading Chen Jie’s twelve guards, Chen Jie named them the Twelve Guards!

Therefore, Xiao Hu usually lived in the Guard Room within the outer courtyard.

As we’ve mentioned before, there are three rooms in the outer courtyard: the accounting room, the attendance room, and the Guard Room.

Xiao Hu usually resided in the Guard Room.

In addition, the accounting room, responsible for the books, saw Chen Jie replace a batch of people and routinely audited the accounts. When he last checked on the iron mine, he had found fraudulent accounting practices but, as he was not the head of White Tiger Hall at the time, it wasn’t his place to overly intervene.

He got rid of them outright, and then there was the attendance room, which oversaw the guild’s material purchases; a lucrative position that Chen Jie had originally wanted Uncle Zhong for.

Unfortunately, Uncle Zhong could not bear to leave his home turf and was unwilling to leave Xiantao Village, leaving Chen Jie no choice but to let Xiao Hu take over temporarily.

But considering his ledgers, well, as high as his Martial Arts talent was, his mathematical ability was equally poor; Chen Jie thus planned to let Zhou Chu take additional charge temporarily.

Zhou Chu immediately waved his hands and said, ”Hall Master, please spare me; I’m already overwhelmed with matters outside the hall; please find someone more capable for these internal affairs.”

Chen Jie also felt a headache, as there was a shortage of manpower.

The downside of having risen to power in a short time was now evident: the lack of human resources. Once his wife’s school was established, there would no longer be a shortage of civil talent in the future.

But under the current special circumstances, finding someone literate, sharp-witted, and versatile was not easy.

However, it was at this time that his wife suggested a candidate, which caused Chen Jie to frown; he was not very pleased.

”Wife, although this person has abilities, he...”

The wife looked at Chen Jie and smilingly said, ”Husband, it is said that to achieve great things, one must be magnanimous. Zhou Gong spit food, and all under heaven turned toward him; we shouldn’t discard someone just for having followed the wrong leader for a while.”

”I inquired with Brother Zhou about him, after Feng Xuan came to power, he was sidelined for his dissatisfaction with Feng Xuan’s actions and has been idle at home until you ordered his arrest.”

Hearing these words, Chen Jie looked at Su Yunjin, who smiled and said, ”Lord, this servant doesn’t understand many great issues, but I do know some historical allusions. During the Three Kingdoms, General Zhang Liao was initially with Lu Bu, later subdued by Cao Cao, earning fame in the battle of Xiao Yaojin, and establishing unparalleled merits for Cao Wei.”

”In the Tang Dynasty, Wei Zheng was originally part of the Crown Prince’s old faction and even devised a plan to kill Li Shimin; however, Li Shimin forgave his past deeds to recruit him, and he became Great Tang’s foremost loyal minister, a famous statesman of his era. Hence, one who aims to achieve greatness must not let small things compromise the bigger picture.”

”I know, husband, that you detest Feng Xuan’s ungrateful betrayal in killing your adoptive father, and your nature is to loathe evil as if it’s a personal enemy, vengeful at any grievance. However, husband, to accomplish great things, you must overcome your anger; you might resent him, hate him, all of which is fine, but if you can absolve him, you will certainly win his heart and thus acquire a competent talent.”

Su Yunjin gently persuaded Chen Jie.

Upon hearing these words, Chen Jie looked at Su Yunjin and asked, ”So, wife, you think I should forgive him?”

Su Yunjin replied, ”It’s not about forgiveness, but about letting him atone for his crimes through meritorious deeds. If he doesn’t handle the logistic management position well, you can still kill him later if need be.”

After pondering this response, Chen Jie finally said, ”Well, I’ll take your advice then.”
