Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 395: Chapter 149 Chen Jie: Madam, don’t panic first, the Gang Leader is here_2

”I don’t have a single penny left. If he’s got the guts to kill my brother, I’ll fight White Tiger Hall to the death!”

Qin Ying spoke out, looking every bit the desperado, ready to risk it all.

Tang Ziyue looked towards Chen Jie, ”Master Chen.”

Chen Jie smirked, ”Hey, Sun Tzu, am I supposed to be afraid of you? Since you’ve got no shame, I won’t leave you with any face, strip him!”

”No, no... Please calm down, Master Chen. The missing thousand taels, I’ll cover it, I’ll cover it!”

Chen Jie replied, ”And what good does your covering it do? I’m not short of money, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s a bit more or less, what’s important is the principle of the thing, don’t you think?”

”Yes, yes, it’s the principle that matters. Here is a thousand taels for you, please accept it.”

Chen Jie took the silver note from Tang Ziyue and said, ”Ah, I really don’t care about how much money it is, what difference does it make? No big deal.”

As he spoke, Chen Jie opened it, confirmed it was a silver note worth a thousand taels, and then pocketed it.

A smile appeared on his face, signifying that he didn’t care about the money.

Tang Ziyue said, ”Master Chen, is the money sufficient now?”

Chen Jie replied, ”Alright, Mr. Tang, how could I not know what kind of man you are? Old Zhou.”

Zhou Chu turned towards him, ”Hall Master.”

Chen Jie instructed, ”Let Qin Hu go, here, take this money.”

Chen Jie casually handed a silver note worth ten thousand taels to Zhou Chu, who asked, ”What does this mean?”

Chen Jie answered, ”For the brothers that came out today, reward them according to the guild’s regulations. For the expenses from the recent ceremony, use this as well. Keep a thousand taels for medical costs and the rest, just add it to the public fund.”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Chu chuckled, ”That’s settled then; the beating we took was worth it, a thousand taels!”

”Scram! How shameful is it for the Sixth Master of White Tiger Hall to get beaten so badly? Wait until I’m done with the work; come to my house, and I’ll enhance your strength.”

”Oh? Master, you got your hands on something good?”

Chen Jie replied, ”Shh, later on, get some reliable guys to clean up this mess, put up public notices, declare all the tax policies from the past few days and any orders issued by Eagle Hall null and void, everything goes back to how it was under Mr. Peng.”

”Understood.”

Chen Jie continued, ”Also, be extra careful these days. Though I doubt Qin Ying and his lot will be mad enough to trouble us, after getting hit they’ll probably need to vent somehow!”

”Master, about this...”

Zhou Chu was somewhat concerned. Chen Jie said, ”Relax, I have it all figured out. If the three brothers come at me together, I might not gain the upper hand, but it won’t be easy for them to beat me. With Second Brother’s injury, he won’t be up and about for ten days or half a month, so don’t worry.”

Zhou Chu remarked, ”I mean, the Gang Leader... Qin Ying is the Gang Leader’s dog. You’ve humiliated him like this, won’t it be difficult for us with the Gang Leader?”

Chen Jie laughed after hearing this, ”That’s where you’re clueless. No matter how much I brawl with Qin Ying, it’s just a minor scuffle. Even if the Gang Leader is dissatisfied, he can’t show it. In fact, he hopes that Qin Ying and I fight; he gets to play the judge without entering the fray. A person doesn’t lose if they don’t enter the fray, right?”

Zhou Chu didn’t fully understand.

Chen Jie didn’t feel like explaining too much to Zhou Chu.

Actually, Qin Ying and he were both chess pieces, Qin Ying belonged to Nan Batian, while he was Darugachi’s man. Right now, Nan Batian wanted to test Darugachi, and Darugachi needed him to make a powerful statement.

Which meant, the more chaos he caused, the happier Darugachi was, the more he trusted him.

What do you think Darugachi feared most?

His greatest fear was that he would reconcile with Nan Batian. If he became friends with Nan Batian again, where would that leave his strategy of balance? He would become a laughingstock.

He would be restless, unable to sleep or eat.

He would personally take himself out.

To reassure Darugachi even more, he needed to keep opposing Nan Batian.

Only this way would Darugachi fully trust him, allowing him to profit from the situation.

While Darugachi thought he was using him, wasn’t he exploiting Darugachi too?

In dealing with Nan Batian, his goal aligned with Darugachi’s, thus there was no resistance and their cooperation was pleasant.

It could be said that he and Darugachi were currently enjoying their honeymoon period.

But in dealing with Nan Batian, surely Nan Batian would strike back. However, with Darugachi backing him, Nan Batian wouldn’t dare attack openly, hence he could only find another pawn.

That would be Qin Ying, a minor character in Darugachi’s view.

Such a man fighting against Chen Jie meant nothing to Darugachi’s Mansion, they wouldn’t care or say anything, but Nan Batian couldn’t afford to personally enter the fray; that would change the nature of things.

Chen Jie understood this, so he showed no courtesy to Qin Ying.

That’s a knife to be used against him, he must fight back to keep the higher-ups at ease.

And he had to be much more cautious about Nan Batian.

It’s because of these complex relationships that Chen Jie dared to be so assertive today; he knew Nan Batian would not start trouble with him over this.

...

Fishing Guild Headquarters.

Slam!

A valuable teacup was flung to the floor by Nan Batian, shattering, tea spraying everywhere.

”Ridiculous!”

Nan Batian roared in anger like an infuriated tiger.

”Look at the two of you, one the Hall Master of Eagle Hall, the other the prospective Hall Master of White Tiger Hall, both prominent figures, and look at what you’ve done!”

”Street brawling, slapping each other in the face!”

”Shameless or not, don’t you realize that you’re the face of the Fishing Guild? If you feud like this, how will outsiders view our Fishing Guild? As a disorganized mess?”
