Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 355: Chapter 142 The Secret of the Grey Mist, Obtaining the Treasure Tai Sui_4

”Northern Han people are already losing hope, and in a few more years, Daqian will realize that the taxes from the Northern Territory are insufficient and will begin to gradually oppress the Southern Han people. By then, the Han people in the South will be treated just like those in the Northern Territory.”

”Jiu Si, just think about this: you are a small landowner, living a good life with hundreds of acres of fertile land, a loving wife and concubines, and children both sons and daughters. Then, one day the court decrees that all land shall belong to Daqian, and the Mulan Nobles ride their horses to mark their territories.”

”When that time comes, your hundreds of acres of fertile land will be taken away, your family’s home plundered, and you thought that losing your wealth would spare your life.”

”But the Mulan people shackle you with a dog chain. If you resist, you’re met with a brutal beating, cruel torture, forced to work like a dog, and susceptible to being beaten or even killed for the slightest displeasure.”

”And a fat Mulan elder takes a fancy to your wife. He tears her clothes off in front of you and forces her to the ground. Your wife looks at you, her screams tearing her heart and lungs apart.”

”Crying out, you go mad, struggling to save your wife.”

”But unexpectedly, four Mulan Guards arrive, kicking you aside, and holding you down to watch a Mulan Master humiliating your wife, which served as their aphrodisiac to cheer themselves up. Seeing you cry in utter despair, they laugh boisterously; unsatisfied, they then drag your five-year-old daughter over...”

...

”Enough!”

Chen Jie’s eyes were bloodshot; he was ready to take desperate action. He couldn’t bear to listen any longer.

The Old Blind Man said, ”There are deeds even more beastly than these; all of them I have seen with my own eyes. By the way, the incident I just mentioned happened to my friend, his name is Han Shantong!”

”Han Shantong!”

Chen Jie stared at the Old Blind Man; he was familiar with this name.

”Yes, the current Sect Hierarch of the Zoroastrian Sect, known in the Jianghu as the Unmoving Ming King, Han Shantong!”

”That incident happened to him; the small landowner was his father, and the ones humiliated were his mother and sister. He was lucky; the previous Sect Hierarch of the Zoroastrian Sect happened to pass by and saved him.”

”It was precisely for this reason that he was so determined to resist Daqian in the Northern Territory.”

Chen Jie fell silent upon hearing this.

The Old Blind Man said, ”Don’t think these things that happened in the North couldn’t happen in the South. The Daqian Court is ruled by treacherous officials; their doctrine is ’those who are not of our race must have different hearts.’ They are determined to eradicate the Han people and treat them like pigs and dogs.”

”If we don’t resist, we will perish in silence.”

”You might say that what’s happening in the North won’t necessarily happen in the South. You might say that with your Martial Power, you wouldn’t let the Mulan people oppress you. But when you see your Han brethren being treated like animals, can you truly remain indifferent?”

”Besides, you have Martial Arts, but so do many masters among the Mulan people. Under a collapsed nest, is there any egg unbroken?”

The Old Blind Man told Chen Jie.

During this time, he had realized that the anti-Daqian sentiment in the Southern Territory wasn’t very strong, mainly because Daqian had implemented a conciliatory policy in the South and had even handed local power to the guilds.

Thus, many issues were handled by guilds, and conflicts became those among the Han people themselves.

If things had stayed like that, it might have been tolerable. However, the situation for the Han people in the North was deteriorating; unlike the South, where guilds held sway, the Mulan people ruled the North.

As a result, seventy percent of the Northern Han people became slaves to the Mulan people.

Slaves have no rights. You have to cheer on as they desecrate your wife, and if they dislike you, killing you solves the problem.

Moreover, the Northern Han people aren’t allowed to flee.

Those caught fleeing would be tied to the tails of horses and dragged to death. It is said that the dragged die with their flesh worn away, leaving nothing but their white bones; their internal organs spilling out, meeting a grave and miserable death!

And these policies took hold with Prime Minister Bo Yan’s rise to power.

The Mulan High Officials in the court proposed two key policies, first, to erase Han culture!

In recent years, Han scholars gradually gained more freedom, initially becoming slaves to the Mulan Clan, then taking part in the Han examinations, and eventually becoming officials.

For example, the Mianshui County Magistrate got his position this way.

But that just wouldn’t do. As soon as Prime Minister Bo Yan took office, he decided to abolish this channel for the Han people to become officials, proclaiming that ’Daqian’s offices are not for Han to hold.’

This sentiment was met with unanimous approval from the Mulan High Officials in court.

After all, which noble family doesn’t have a few worthless offspring? Han officials had been sidelining their ineffectual progeny. If they could close off this avenue for the Han, their good-for-nothing kin could rise to power.

The second policy: Northernization of the Southern Territory!

Most Mulan Nobles were concentrated in the Northern Territory. Although some Mulan people had moved South, their numbers were sparse. They had privileges, but they hadn’t experienced the invigorating grand plunder—staking claims by riding across the land.

The Northern Mulan Nobles, due to long-standing peace and a fondness for reproduction, faced a surge in population, leading to a shortage of land and slaves.

What to do? The South was still undeveloped.

A raid through the South would bring land, slaves, and women, wouldn’t it?

What about the fear of inciting rebellion?

Fear nothing! A hundred years ago, the Han were beaten into cowering submission, begging on their knees. Now, after being suppressed for a century, those who dare show resistance are simply killed.

And as for the rebels, just because we don’t stake claims on their land, will they stop rebelling?

The Zoroastrian Sect has been growing. These ’Han Dogs’ are all bound to join sooner or later. Why not seize the chance now and launch a pre-emptive strike, subdue them, and let them witness the formidable Martial Power of Daqian!
