Chapter 924: Creating a Tier 4 Elemental Talisman

As Elder Shu tried to come up with something difficult to make sure Max would fail the practical exam, Ryuna had an anticipatory look in her eyes.

She wanted to see if Max could really pass this exam too. But she was aware that while it was easy to memorise or even gain understanding of something, putting it into practice was a lot more difficult.

For example, after she had all the knowledge of tier 4 talisman master, it took her three months and countless failed attempts before she finally produced a low quality tier 4 talisman. This was when she was already a top Tier 3 Talisman Master and familiar with the process of preparing material, her inscribing technique etc.

Max, however, was a complete novice. So, logically, it should be impossible for him to create a tier 4 talisman today.

However, deep down, she wanted him to succeed and also did not.

She wanted him to fail because if he passed, it would undermine her talent and all the hard work she had put in in the talisman making. But she wanted him to succeed because she wanted to see if such a thing, almost a miracle, was really possible. And when she compared them, she realized she wished to see him succeed more.

Max could feel her gaze boring into him and he couldn’t help but lightly shake his head. Fortunately, he had only told her that he wasn’t a talisman master. If others also knew it, he would have to endure all their looks.

After a few moments, Elder Shu scribbled the task for the second and final exam and sent it flying toward him.

Max caught it and read the single sentence written there.

”Make a Tier 4 Elemental Talisman.”

Ryuna glanced at it. Immediately, her expression turned cold and she shot Elder Shu a death stare.

”We would like to change the examiner.” she told the receptionist.

Before the receptionist could respond, Elder Shu chuckled, ”Haha, you know that won’t happen since I have not broken any rules. So, why don’t you quit it and let the boy proceed with the exam. As you said earlier, I have got no time to waste.”

As Ryuna glared at him, Max stepped forward and gave the exam paper to the receptionist, who took a look at it, noted it down and asked, ”Which element materials do you need?”

”Fire.” answered Max after thinking for a moment.

Since he was trying to comprehend the Thunder Rune, it made more sense to try to create a thunder talisman, but since it was more difficult to replenish thunder energy compared to the Fire, he chose the latter.

The receptionist nodded and handed him the needed materials for the exam.

Max took them and asked, ”Can I have some privacy for this exam? I don’t want everyone to see my technique.”

The receptionist glanced at Ryuna, who nodded.

”Of course.” He said and led him to an empty chamber behind the counter.

”Is this place alright? All the formations have been deactivated already.” he informed, then gave him a disk, ”You can activate the concealing formations with this.”

”Yes, thank you.” nodded Max in thanks.

”No problem. You have 12 hours to complete this exam. All the best.” Saying this, he walked out of the chamber.

”Do your best, but don’t feel any pressure. Even if you fail, I’ll teach you everything I know.” Ryuna said before walking out.

Max looked at the formation disk in his hands and sighed. Without mana, he couldn’t activate it, so it was all but useless.

’Let’s finish it before anyone tries to take a look.’ With this thought, he sat down cross-legged and spread the materials in front of him.

There were two main things a Talisman Master needed to create a talisman—A carrier and talisman ink.

Anything that could hold mana could be a carrier. Normally it was the talisman paper and magical beast hide. As for talisman ink, it was made from some magical beast blood and a mixture of different kinds of herbs and sometimes even metals and other minerals.

He dipped his finger into the talisman ink.

Then,

Hu!

”Here goes nothing.” He exalted deeply and circulated his Bloodline Sense throughout his body, extracting the Fire Elemental Energy from the Fire Energy Traces in his bloodline and slowly pouring it into the Ink.

Once it was saturated with the pure Fire Energy, he split his focus into two, picked up the talisman paper with the other hand and sent another stream of his Bloodline Sense into it and began preparing it according to the technique he had memorised from the ’Introduction of talisman making’.

A moment later...

Snap!

The talisman paper splintered.

Unbothered, he picked another talisman paper from the stack—he was given ten papers.

This time, he went ever slower than before, wanting to succeed because while he had eight more talisman papers, he had to finish creating the talisman before his Bloodline Sense was fully depleted. From the current rate of depletion, he guessed it would be completely exhausted in half an hour.

If someone was watching them, his act of saturating the talisman ink with the Fire Energy would have already stunned them because this talisman ink was already a finished product. If someone tried to add something into it, it would become imbalanced and be ruined.

Normally, the Talisman Masters mixed the elemental materials into it, they would wrap them with their divine sense to stop them from fully mixing or use an elemental talisman ink—Since it was an exam, and Max was already a Five Star Mage, he wasn’t given the fire elemental Ink. Of course, there was another reason behind it and it was that the ink might not have enough fire energy concentration he needed to create his talisman.

However, Max had completely integrated his fire energy into it without any side effects, though he hadn’t done it easily because even now, he was using his Bloodline Sense to keep it stable.

If this still wasn’t enough, the fact that he wanted to finish creating a Tier 4, Elemental Talisman in half an hour would surely make them incredulous. After all, even Tier 5 Talisman Master couldn’t say they could create such a talisman in half an hour.

...

Snap!

Just when he was about to finish preparing the second talisman paper, it suddenly snapped.

His brows furrowed this time.

Taking a deep breath and wiping the droplets of sweat from his forehead, he took the third talisman paper.
