Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

Lin Yan looked into his aperture. Six Gu floated inside, already more than what most Rank 1 Gu Masters had.

The newly obtained Fire Coal Gu had already been refined. It looked like a black-grey beetle, long and oval, with a rough back that would sometimes spark like burning charcoal.

During these five days, Lin Yan kept entering the dream space. He could now create new training scenes, including groups of Flame Wolves, and practice moving and attacking while being surrounded, improving his control over Fire Line Gu.

He didn’t have Fang Yuan’s experience of two lifetimes and hundreds of years, nor his deep understanding of Gu. He could only rely on himself and improve step by step through training.

The Shan Family caravan slowly entered the Red Willow Oasis. This place was controlled by the Liu Family, a mid-sized force with a Rank 4 clan leader. Their strength was similar to the Gu Yue clan and far below the Shan Family.

Lin Yan looked at the green fields and the lively people in the oasis. A gentle breeze passed by, and he felt much more relaxed, as if the heat and fatigue from the desert had been washed away.

Not long after, the Liu Family sent a Rank 3 elder to discuss business and arrange where the caravan would stay.

Soon, the Shan Family caravan set up many shops, forming a small market street. All kinds of goods and resources were displayed for trade.

The Gu Masters still had to stay and guard the shops to prevent trouble. But logistics Gu Masters like Lin Yan were much freer and could move around as they wished.

”The Gu World is huge. Even one region is as big as several Earth regions. But production is low, there are many wild beasts, and travel is difficult, so caravans are very important.”

Lin Yan walked through the streets, looking around and learning more about this world. It was not just the Western Desert. Except for Central Continent, the other regions were similar. Even in Southern Border, caravans often passed through places like Qing Mao Mountain.

Fang Yuan had once gained a lot from caravan trade, using it to greatly improve his cultivation and strength. But it also brought trouble, as he was targeted by the Jia Family caravan.

”I wonder where my opportunity is.” Lin Yan thought about it. If he continued with Flame Path, he already had attack and support Gu. What he still lacked were movement, defense, detection, and healing.

Normally, only Rank 3 Gu Masters would build a complete set like this. Rank 1 and Rank 2 usually just used whatever they had. But Lin Yan was already thinking ahead and preparing for the future.

”There’s no need to prepare everything. Once I reach Rank 2, all my Gu will need to be refined again, and that will cost too much. It’s better to pick one movement or defensive Gu for safety.”

Lin Yan thought clearly. With the Liquor Worm, reaching Rank 1 high stage was close. Spending too much now to complete a full set would not last long, and feeding them would also be troublesome.

He walked to the central brick Gu house, which mainly sold Gu. There were Rank 1 to Rank 3 Gu, including Wolf Strength Gu, White Pig Gu, Jade Skin Gu, Earth Thorn Gu, Earth Wave Gu, Three Watch Gu, and many others.

Even the Streaming Fire Gu he had sold earlier was displayed there. As expected of a large caravan, there were many types of Gu, and their quality was high.

After looking around for a while, Lin Yan found what he wanted.

Rank 1 Fire Cloak Gu. It was one of the Shan Family’s Flame Path legacy Gu, with a clear path for future refinement.

Flame Path was strong in offense, not weaker than Lightning Path or Sword Path, but its defense was weak. Fire Cloak Gu was considered a very good defensive Gu.

Its food was also easy to get. It needed the roots of Flame Marsh Grass, which has the most fiber. Doesn’t that sound familiar?

That’s right. The Fire Line Gu feeds on the leaves of Flame Marsh Grass, while the Fire Cloak Gu uses its roots. They just consume different parts of the same plant.

This was the strength of the Shan Family’s true legacy, using the same material to feed most of their Gu.

This not only reduced the burden of feeding, but also made it hard to target them. Flame Marsh Grass was easy to grow and found everywhere, so it was impossible to cut off the Shan Family’s supply.

Lin Yan spent two hundred primeval stones to buy the Fire Cloak Gu. He still had about two thousand five hundred primeval stones left. It had to be said that Flame Path Gu were relatively cheap.

He recalled that Fang Yuan chose Strength Path in the early stage. A Rank 1 Strength Path Gu cost six or seven hundred primeval stones, almost twice the normal price, and there were no follow-up refinement methods. Every Gu had to be carefully planned, making it very costly.

Lin Yan thought, ”This is the general trend. Flame Path is mainstream. Going against it is not wise.”

Of course, Fang Yuan chose Strength Path to plan for the Three Kings inheritance, and later obtained Rank 6 Immortal Gu. If there were such opportunities, even a declining path would be worth choosing.

Gu Immortals were on a completely different level from Rank 5. Those who did not become Gu Immortals were nothing in comparison.

”The fall of Qing Mao Mountain, the struggle in Shang Clan City, the Three Kings inheritance, Fox Immortal Blessed Land, Lang Ya Blessed Land, the Imperial Court contest...”

Lin Yan’s mind went through several key opportunities and events from Fang Yuan’s early journey. A sense of urgency rose in his heart. Before and after the arrival of the great era, chaos would spread everywhere. Only Gu Immortals could barely protect themselves.

He had to quickly improve his cultivation and understand the situation of the five regions.
