Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

After that, Lin Yan said goodbye to his uncle and quickly returned to his tent, eager to refine the Gu.

Shan Shayuan watched his nephew leave in a hurry and laughed softly. ”That boy.”

Inside the tent, Lin Yan sat cross-legged. Beside him were several smooth, milky-white stones about the size of goose eggs. These were primeval stones, the main currency of the Gu World.

They were very valuable. A single stone could restore most of a Gu Master’s primeval essence and could also help with cultivation. For mortals, one stone was enough for a family of three to live for a month.

Meanwhile, a Rank 1 Gu usually cost two to three hundred stones. From this, it was clear how much Shan Shayuan cared about him.

Lin Yan focused inward and looked at his aperture. The Fire Line Gu was moving inside the green copper primeval essence sea, pushed around by the waves. Its body was slowly turning green, but it resisted strongly.

Refining a Gu was not easy. It meant removing its natural will and replacing it with one’s own. This required constant use of primeval essence to wear it down.

For a Rank 1 early stage Gu Master, refining a Rank 1 Gu would take more than ten days and consume seven or eight primeval stones. Lin Yan was already at Rank 1 mid-stage, so it was much faster for him, and three days was enough.

Several days passed quickly as the caravan moved on. Lin Yan handled small tasks while refining the Fire Line Gu, and in the end, he completely subdued it.

Sitting on a camel, Lin Yan closed his eyes and focused on the four Gu inside his aperture. Next, I need to turn it into my vital Gu, he thought.

Just as he used the method to transform the Fire Line Gu into his vital Gu, an accident happened—he failed.

In the next moment, an unfamiliar Gu suddenly appeared above the green copper primeval essence sea. It looked like a small mirage insect, about the size of a thumb, its body clear like crystal, shining with faint seven-colored light, with thin smoke around it forming shapes like mountains and rivers.

Lin Yan’s mind went blank for a moment. What kind of Gu is this? I already have a vital Gu? What’s going on?

Lin Yan was shocked. There was no record of this Gu in the original owner’s memories, and he didn’t recognize it at all.

He frowned and tried to identify it using what he knew from the original story. Soon, a thought came to his mind. Could this be the legendary Dream Path Gu?

Gu were refined, raised, and used. When it came to ”using,” they were divided into different paths based on their nature, such as Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, along with rarer paths like Qi Path, Strength Path, Soul Path, Enslavement Path, and others.

The four Gu Lin Yan currently had were Cool Wind Gu (Wind Path), Clear Water Gu (Water Path), Sand Pit Gu (Earth Path), and Fire Line Gu (Flame Path).

But Dream Path was extremely rare. It had not even fully appeared yet, and related Gu were almost never seen. According to the original story, it would only show up in the future great era.

Fate Gu once revealed that the eleventh Rank 9 Venerable would be Great Dream Immortal Venerable, who cultivated Dream Path. It was said that she would surpass the previous ten Venerables and become the strongest.

In a way, this path was like a top-tier build, the strongest choice.

The main trait of Dream Path Gu was that they focused on illusions, and the Gu themselves were often very beautiful, almost like a dream.

This Gu matched those traits perfectly. If Lin Yan had not tried to choose his vital Gu, he might not have noticed it at all.

He couldn’t understand how a Dream Path Gu had appeared inside him. Even Fang Yuan’s biggest advantage was his knowledge of Dream Path, and he only obtained such Gu after becoming a Gu Immortal.

”Wait... could it be...” Lin Yan’s eyes lit up slightly.

In the Gu World, transmigrators—also called Otherworldly Demons—were nothing new. There had been all kinds of them, from powerful experts to ordinary people. Fang Yuan was one, and now, so was Lin Yan.

They came from different worlds, such as mecha worlds, Earth, and even worlds with advanced technology.

Every Otherworldly Demon had one special trait. They were born with something called Otherworldly Dao Marks.

What are Dao Marks? Dao Marks were fragments of the Great Dao.

This also led to a well-known saying in the Gu World: humans are the spirit of heaven and earth, and Gu are the essence of heaven and earth. Gu worms themselves carry fragments of the Great Dao.

Because of this, Gu with Flame Path dao marks can produce fire, while Water Path Gu can create water.

Lin Yan thought about it and could only come up with this explanation. Creating a new Gu out of nowhere had to involve dao marks, and that was something usually only Gu Immortals dealt with.

”Dream Path has huge potential... should I focus on Dream Path and keep Flame Path as support in the future?”
