Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

After sorting out his thoughts, he walked out of the tent.

What entered his sight was a vast and empty desert. Golden sand stretched endlessly in every direction, and the blazing sun hung high in the sky, shining down with intense heat.

Around three to four hundred mortals in the caravan were busy setting up camp. Some gathered firewood, some cooked, while others handled different tasks to keep things running.

Under the desert heat, which was close to fifty degrees, everyone was soaked in sweat. A few people were already showing signs of heatstroke and were about to collapse.

Seeing this, Lin Yan checked his green copper primeval essence sea and the three Gu inside it. He didn’t have time to study them carefully. Following the original owner’s memory, he activated one of them. It looked like a small silver fish, moving quickly and giving off a faint shine. With a thought, the level of his green copper primeval essence began to drop.

He raised his hands, and a cool wind burst out from his palms. A soft green light spread outward, quickly covering the entire camp. The burning heat faded, and the air turned cool, like a refreshing breeze in summer.

This was the Rank 1 Cool Wind Gu. It had no offensive power, but its range was wide, making it a common support Gu in the Western Desert, similar to a portable air conditioner.

This was Lin Yan’s first time using a Gu. Seeing it work with his own hands made him feel a sense of excitement. The fear of being in a new world faded, replaced by curiosity and interest.

”Since I’m already here, I might as well live properly. I had nothing in my previous life anyway. If this life is more interesting, then I lose nothing,” Lin Yan thought.

He calmed himself and checked his primeval essence. Only about half a percent had been used, which was very little compared to offensive Gu that usually consumed around one percent each time.

But that was only for him. For D-grade Gu Masters, even using a support Gu a few times could drain them completely, let alone fighting.

As the cool wind spread through the camp, everyone relaxed, their expressions turning much more comfortable.

The Western Desert was full of sand, with a huge difference between day and night temperatures. The daytime heat was unbearable, and even Gu Masters could suffer heatstroke or die if they were not careful. Because of this, Cool Wind Gu was very important, and that was the role of logistics Gu Masters.

After that, Lin Yan did not use the Cool Wind Gu again, since it only needed to be activated once every hour. He then walked around the camp to get familiar with the surroundings and better understand his situation.

Tents were being set up one after another across the desert. Seeing this, Lin Yan felt a bit fortunate. He was glad he had transmigrated as a cultivator, since his treatment was much better than mortals. He had his own tent, could rest earlier, and did not need to handle basic chores.

For mortals, life here was much harder. The difference in status in this world was very clear. In the center of the camp, surrounded by hundreds of tents, stood a three-story yellow-brown building. Lin Yan recognized it at a glance as a Rank 3 Gu House, the Earth Brick House.

It could transform into a solid building with strong defense, suitable for the desert environment. The people staying inside were naturally the leaders of the caravan. Lin Yan only glanced at it before moving on, since he still had work to do as part of logistics.

He went to several large water vats placed around the camp and used his second Gu. It was clear green in color, smooth like water, and about the size of a fist. With a thought, he activated it.

A stream of clear water appeared out of thin air and flowed steadily into the vats. Before long, they were filled, and the nearby mortals quickly came over to collect water.

This was the Rank 1 Clear Water Gu, a common support Gu in the Western Desert. It could create water directly, which was extremely important in such a dry place. It also used very little primeval essence. About three percent was enough to fill a large vat. In places with more moisture in the air, it could produce even more.

Lin Yan was not done yet. He turned and walked to the edge of the camp, where hundreds of large camels stood in a circle, forming the first line of defense. If enemies attacked, they would have to get past these thick-skinned beasts first.

He then moved outside the camel line and used his third Gu. It was a yellow-brown longhorn beetle with a hard shell and a rough back—the Rank 1 Sand Pit Gu. With its help, he created many sand pits, working together with other Gu Masters to change the terrain and build a second layer of defense.

The desert outside was dangerous, so every time the caravan set up camp, they had to prepare defenses to avoid sudden attacks.

After finishing all this, Lin Yan’s primeval essence had dropped by about half. The other logistics Gu Masters looked tired and annoyed, clearly bothered by the same repeated work every day.

But Lin Yan was different. He still felt interested. This was something new to him, and he did not feel tired using it.

All of this was seen by a fierce-looking middle-aged man standing on the top floor of the central Earth Brick Gu House. His eyes showed a hint of approval as he nodded.

”Not bad. Lin Yan is steady, works actively, and has a sense of responsibility. It seems I can give him more tasks.”
