Just a Useful Pawn in the Stain Sect

Chapter 223: Chapter 223: Great Undertaking

”It’s over!”

At that moment, Venerable Weimotuo’s heart went cold. A chill spread through his limbs, as if he had just been dragged out of an ice cavern.

He didn’t recognize Great Undertaking.

This was to be expected. After all, even within the Stain Sect, no one knew of Great Undertaking except for the Perfected Lords and a few others connected to the Fruit of Lamp-Cover Fire.

Back then, the Perfected Fortune had brought about Great Undertaking’s Enlightenment to Foundation Establishment Perfection to serve as a hidden trump card for his own future return to power. Since he was a trump card, what would be the point if everyone knew about him? Naturally, he had to be kept hidden in the shadows to be effective.

On top of that, World Purger Fei Xue had intentionally concealed his existence.

Therefore, no one had accounted for him.

During the critical time of Chongguang Gold, the entire North region was under the watch of various Perfected Lords. Every Great Trueman at the Late Stage of Foundation Establishment, and even those at Perfection, was being monitored.

If any one of them made a move, the other factions would send their own people to respond.

Only Great Undertaking was alone and unaccounted for.

Thus, his appearance was utterly terrifying to Venerable Weimotuo. Those eyes, blazing like lamps, seemed to burn straight into his Heart Spirit.

’Who in the world is this man!?’

’Every Great Trueman in the world who has reached Foundation Establishment Perfection and possesses profound Abilities is famous! Shouldn’t every Perfected Lord know them by name?’

’Why would someone like this appear out of thin air!?’

A hundred thoughts raced through Venerable Weimotuo’s mind, but his eyes only reflected a raging sea of fire. He then realized his own eyes had been set ablaze.

Without any warning, flames erupted from within his body, burning through his organs and spewing out from his every orifice. The fire ignited his monk’s robes. From start to finish, Great Undertaking hadn’t even performed a single Finger Technique or cast a spell. A single glance was all it took to turn the monk into a human torch!

”AHHH!!!”

Now a man of fire, Venerable Weimotuo let out a sudden roar. His voice thundered with Buddhist might as his mouth gaped open, unleashing a profoundly mysterious Daoist Skill.

”[Heart Light Escape Technique]!”

Go where the heart desires, travel with a single thought!

He had studied this Heart Light Escape Technique for several hundred years. Among the Venerables of the Pure Land, he was the most skilled in this art, and his escape speed was the fastest.

That was why the Pure Land had sent him to the North.

With the [Heart Light Escape Technique], he had a fifty percent chance of escaping even from a Great Trueman at Foundation Establishment Perfection. It wasn’t a guaranteed death sentence!

The next second, Venerable Weimotuo shot into the air.

This sudden change gave him a flicker of hope. But just as that hope ignited, a layer of dust seemed to settle over his Spirit Platform.

Countless distracting thoughts erupted in his mind.

’This man has humiliated me so. Should I teach him a lesson before I leave?’

’No rush. I can toy with him a bit more!’

’I, Weimotuo, have never lost to anyone in my entire life! Even if my Cultivation is slightly weaker and my Abilities a little inferior, what is there to fear in death? It just means a fight to the bitter end...’

By the time Venerable Weimotuo finally broke free from these distracting thoughts, he found Great Undertaking’s large hand resting gently on top of his head.

CRACK!

One palm strike, and his Celestial Spirit was shattered!

At that instant, Venerable Weimotuo’s eyes widened. His prized Indestructible Golden Body offered no resistance at all, shattering like glass at the slightest touch.

His Soul emerged from his shattered flesh and blood.

Only then did a beam of white light finally emerge from the Void, enveloping Venerable Weimotuo’s Soul and preventing it from falling into the cycle of reincarnation.

Bathed in the white light’s power, Venerable Weimotuo finally understood why he had been so muddle-headed and powerless against Great Undertaking. He saw that, at some unknown point, a slowly flipping book had appeared above his head. A short line of text was written on it.

[Weimotuo dies at my hand]

”So that’s how it was...” Venerable Weimotuo’s Soul trembled with rage. ”A Great Trueman at Foundation Establishment Perfection, using a Treasure of Fruit Position to launch a sneak attack... Such despicable villainy...”

He was at Foundation Establishment Perfection! He could have crushed me in a direct confrontation!

But he still resorted to using a Treasure of Fruit Position for a sneak attack, tricking me into sending him my Divine Sense like an idiot. It was nothing short of toying with me, a deliberate and calculated humiliation!

However, Great Undertaking paid no heed to Venerable Weimotuo’s fury.

”The guiding light of the Pure Land...”

He withdrew his hand, took a voluntary step back, and looked up at the sky. He saw the clouds stacking layer upon layer, faintly forming the shape of a giant Buddha Head.

BOOM! Lightning flashed within the clouds, exploding in the eyes of the Buddha Head.

”...My apologies, Bodhisattva.” Great Undertaking gave a wry smile. ”This humble one is only trying to survive. I pray the Bodhisattva will be magnanimous and not lower yourself to my level.”

Before he could finish, a cold snort suddenly echoed.

”Bald ass, get lost!”

In an instant, snow fell on the summer day. A fierce wind scattered the Buddha Head cloud and blocked the furious gaze from the Pure Land, keeping it outside the North.

The next moment, the various apparitions vanished. Venerable Weimotuo’s Soul returned to the Pure Land under its guiding light. This was one of the benefits of being a Great Trueman of the Pure Land: there was no need for reincarnation. Even in death, one would simply be reformed within the Pure Land, free from the suffering of the reincarnation cycle.

Seeing this, Great Undertaking breathed a sigh of relief.

He then glanced in the direction of Dragon-Crushing Pass, then looked back toward the Stain Sect. Soon, a faint voice drifted over:

”The Pure Land has made a move. You may also make one move.”

As the voice faded, no other faction responded, seemingly accepting this decision by default. Seeing this, Great Undertaking no longer felt constrained and immediately set off toward Dragon-Crushing Pass.

In the blink of an eye, he appeared inside a secret chamber.

Inside the chamber, Lü Yang was still activating the Array, collecting all of Venerable Weimotuo’s spiritual perception. He looked up almost instantly.

”...Greetings, Senior.”

Lü Yang reacted quickly, bowing almost immediately. ”I wonder, has the Monk been dealt with? Is there anything this junior can do to help?”

”...Quick on the uptake.”

Great Undertaking’s expression was complicated as he looked at Lü Yang. After all, not long ago, he had been trying every method he could think of to take this man’s life, yet now he was here to save him.

”The Monk who acted was named Weimotuo.”

Great Undertaking got straight to the point. ”I clouded his Spirit Platform and made him send you a few strands of his Divine Sense. Can we consider the past enmity between us settled?”

Lü Yang froze for a moment at his words.

But he quickly put the pieces together. A Great Trueman from the Stain Sect with whom he had a grudge... was this man before him the one who had instigated the Heaven and Earth’s Killing Intent against him?

At this thought, Lü Yang hurriedly bowed again. ”Senior, you speak too gravely.”

”What happened in the past was a trivial matter. This junior would never dare to hold a grudge, so what is there to talk of settling? Please, Senior, don’t give it another thought.”

”...”

Great Undertaking sighed. ’We’re both Perfected Persons of the Stain Sect. Do you take me for a fool?’

’”Never dare to hold a grudge” means he absolutely holds a grudge. ”What is there to talk of settling” means he refuses to settle it! This man’s heart is far too petty!’

”...This time, with the Perfected Lord’s permission, I can lend you a hand.”

Great Undertaking extended his hand, a wisp of shimmering golden smoke hovering over his palm. ”This is a portion of that Weimotuo’s Merit and Qi. I extracted it.”

Then, he took out a book.

”This is the [Tongming Yiyun Talisman Book]. It requires the consumption of Merit and Qi to leave an inscription on its pages. Whatever is written will then be pushed into motion by Heaven and Earth.”

After speaking, he handed both items to Lü Yang.

”I am lending them to you now. You write on it, but only one sentence... From now on, the karmic links between us are severed. We may even be colleagues in the future, so let’s not pursue this any further.”

Although he could best Lü Yang ten times over in terms of Cultivation, Lü Yang’s backing was simply too strong. If Minor Metal successfully ascended in the future, he himself would have to live at Minor Metal’s mercy. In that situation, if he made an enemy of a favored person like Lü Yang, what would he do if the man decided to make things difficult for him?

He could only spend his way out of this disaster.

Meanwhile, Lü Yang was staring intently at the [Tongming Yiyun Talisman Book], his eyes shining. So this was the Marvelous Treasure that could trigger Heaven and Earth’s Killing Intent?

’A flawless plan, truly a flawless plan!’

’I just don’t know if this was Minor Metal’s backup plan or an arrangement by World Purger Fei Xue... With this, assassinating that Prince Qing of the Qing Country will no longer be a difficult task!’
