Ning An's Wild Wish System

In just less than a month, you may have achieved gratifying results. This makes us, the elders, keep it in our hearts and minds. On behalf of the people of Dragon Country, I sincerely thank you.

Although you are not like the elders of the Two Bombs era, who remained anonymous, you bear heavy responsibilities and may not be able to return home for half a year or even a year, nor can you have much communication with your families.

I walked out of that desert during the Two Bombs era and can fully understand everyone’s feelings. But as I just said, the heavy responsibilities you bear concern the fate of millions of Dragon Country People.

As the saying goes, persevere, persevere, and persevere again. When you return covered in glory, we old folks will personally award you with medals!”

”Clap, clap, clap!”

Instantly, thunderous applause erupted in the conference room, and their faces flushed slightly as if they had been injected with adrenaline.

For these researchers, apart from breakthroughs in academic achievements, this is another G-spot!

A commendation letter personally written by one of Dragon Country’s top leaders and even the prospect of being awarded a medal by the same hands is enough to make their dopamine boil!

”Alright, alright, I can understand everyone’s excitement, but I still have to emphasize one point: that is, everyone must be more careful and dedicated. Our work is about creating a whole new world, and we can’t afford any carelessness!”

Pouring cold water on everyone’s enthusiasm, Professor Wang then turned to look at Elder Shi: ”Teacher, do you have anything to add?”

”No.”

”Okay, then everyone, you may disperse.”

Once everyone had dispersed, the conference hall instantly turned quiet, leaving only the two elders.

The lighting remained soft, but the wrinkles on their faces seemed to have increased substantially in an instant.

”Old Wang, isn’t this a bit too hasty?” Elder Shi exhaled silently.

”It’s no longer about whether it’s hasty or not; if possible, they would even want to force things to grow.”

Professor Wang, who came from that place, knew much more than Elder Shi, and his face turned even more solemn:

”This is no longer like the days in the desert. These things, once planted, will use greenhouse technology, and within two months, the results can be seen. Even with improvement time, it’s just over half a year, and they have calculated it very accurately.”

”It’s still uncertain whether this thing will work. If it does work, how will it be divided?” Elder Shi’s gaze was complicated.

Professor Wang understood clearly and mockingly said: ”How else would it be divided, just like always—from top to bottom, plus those with connections. It’s been like this from ancient times till now.”

Professor Wang left it at that, then lifted his head and laughed: ”This isn’t our problem to consider; we should be thankful that even with the emergence of Extraordinary Power, they still need us old people who understand science.”

”Yes, we should be thankful,” Elder Shi tried hard to suppress the melancholy in his heart and managed a reluctant smile.

To be honest, when he came to this base, he was full of ambition.

But when it came to the actual work, he realized that without the cultivators, he couldn’t do anything, and this gap was hard not to give rise to a deep sense of powerlessness.

Especially for a top scientist like Elder Shi, it’s even more so.

Of course, he didn’t resent Ning An, he didn’t even have enough interest in his temperament or what the experiments required, simply the pride of a scientist made it hard for him to accept for a moment.

...

Meanwhile, as they held the meeting, Ning An wasn’t idle either; he went to the south base and lit a small stove, started a fire.

While controlling the size of the flames, he thread the already cleaned grasswhistles on iron skewers and placed them on the stove to roast.

The part affecting the appetite had long been twisted off by Ning An. The remaining body, over two meters long, couldn’t be skewered with just one skewer and had to be divided into several sections with tears to roast over the fire.

Feeling a bit tired from the roasting, he happily took a sip of iced Coke and casually added a few of Old Ma’s spices, completely ignoring the murderous gaze not far away from the breeding staff.

So far, the only successfully mutated species on the base website is this grasswhistle, and there are still not many of them, everyone treasures them a lot.

Let alone eating it, even if the warrior delivering meat to them usually came late, they would get scolded by the breeding staff without mercy.

But Ning An was different; he wouldn’t be lenient with these beasts.

Since he finished eating something that was so delicious he couldn’t stop, he often visited the breeding area to ’raid for resources,’ improving his meals.

Because of this, the breeding staff often cried and went to Elder Shi, pleading with him to manage this young tyrant.

Faced with such situations, Elder Shi could only smile wryly, try to persuade them kindly, and send them back.

Manage Ning An?

What a joke!

All their work now depends on Ning An; if this young tyrant isn’t happy, how are they going to work!

Even if Ning An really wants to eat, Elder Shi is willing to set up a separate breeding area for him, as long as he can cooperate more with the work.

”Sizzle!”

The fat dripped onto the charcoal, splashing a series of sparks.

It didn’t take long for the snake’s body to turn golden and crisp, poke it with a finger, the timing was just right, take off the skewer, and the fragrance hit strongly.

Ning An’s eyes lit up, regardless of the heat, ready to open his mouth wide just when he heard footsteps approaching from not far away.

Changing his wide mouth to small bites, Ning An, while eating the snake meat, mumbled: ”Aren’t they in a meeting over there, why didn’t you go?”

”Didn’t want to.”

Quan Xiaobai squatted down not far from him, silently watching the skewered snake.

Ning An instantly became alert, and nonchalantly moved the skewer closer to himself; this was something he roasted with great effort, if they wanted to eat, they should roast their own!

”I’m not one of you, so I don’t go, what about you?”

Quan Xiaobai, staring at the skewered snake, said coldly: ”They don’t like me.”

The voice was emotionless, as if stating something insignificant.

Yes.

Who would like someone who used to be a murderer and now spends every day with zombies!

”I don’t like you either.”

Ning An thought to himself but seeing the kid all alone, had a soft heart and still handed over a skewer of snake meat.

Watching Quan Xiaobai devour it ravenously, Ning An was heartbroken: ”Then you should learn to be skillful, at least ensure you don’t go hungry, you don’t fit in, and your master probably won’t give you a proper meal,”

”I have a small kitchen.” Quan Xiaobai, while munching on the snake meat, answered matter-of-factly.

Oh damn!

Completely forgot about that!

Ning An slapped his thigh in sudden realization, feeling that he made a foolish move.

No matter how Dragon Country treats outsiders, they spare no effort in treating their own people well.

Ning An felt somewhat defeated: ”In a few days, I should be leaving, you probably need to stay a bit longer.”

”Hmm? When are you leaving?”

”Soon, once the basic work is done, I’ll take the reward and leave.”

”Okay.”

Quan Xiaobai paused in his eating of the snake meat but didn’t say anything more.

Ning An, unwilling to give up, tried again to persuade: ”What are you going to do in the future, just be a thug for them your entire life?”

”Not... ahem, don’t know.”

”Not even a basic goal?”

”Haven’t thought about it.”

Ning An was speechless: ”Then you really plan to be used as a tool by them forever? Not mentioning anything else, just your master, don’t you want to let the world know your master’s name, let your master’s Daoist Temple flourish?”

”My master.”

Quan Xiaobai stopped gobbling, revealing a touch of wistfulness in his eyes: ”My master is buried with their help, I was there, it was a grand funeral.”

”As for my master’s Daoist Temple.” Quan Xiaobai bit a piece of snake meat and quietly said: ”They have already restored the Daoist Temple, and expanded it several times on the original basis.

They promised me, within five years, to make my master’s Daoist Temple renowned throughout Dragon Country.”

”Uh...”

Ning An picked up a skewer, his hand halted mid-air just about to pass it over, then turned, and took a fierce bite himself: ”Scoundrel, deceiving me for a skewer, I’ll remember you!”
