Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 16: Chapter 13: Home

As one of the Twelve Base Cities of Huaxia, Jiang City has a population of over one hundred million, and with the protection of the Blue Moon, it means that compared to other cities, safety here is more assured, and there’s no need to constantly worry about demon beasts attacking the city.

It also means more opportunities and resources.

Therefore, even in the Shore District, the place is still overcrowded, and a poor person could never afford to buy a house here in their lifetime, as these are all low-rent housing built by the government.

The apartment that Lin Feng’s family rents is in Building 186, on the 46th floor.

This is the top floor, and to save on electricity, there’s not only no elevator, but due to the poor partition on the roof, it’s cold in winter and hot in summer. The only advantage is that the rent is slightly cheaper.

The monthly rent of 1800 New Coins is almost unheard of in Jiang City.

New Coin is the universal currency in today’s world, very stable, and an ordinary worker’s monthly income is about 3000 New Coins.

”I need to start earning quickly, to move out of this terrible place.”

The narrow, dark, and damp staircase has poor air quality, carrying a musty smell combined with a lingering scent of blood, enough to make one nauseous.

”Big sister, how are things between you and Chen Hao recently?”

”What else could it be, you already know his temperament, same as always.” Lin Kerou’s brows furrowed slightly, she spoke with a deliberately light tone.

Lin Feng naturally knew his big sister was covering up, just not wanting him to worry, so she didn’t show it.

”Haha, don’t lie to me.”

Lin Feng chuckled.

Although they are eight years apart, he and his big sister have always shared a close relationship, discussing everything openly with each other: ”I’ve already found out, Chen Hao’s family is dissatisfied with our family, they despise us for not having money or background, right?”

”They’re even afraid we’re going to drag their family down, right.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Kerou stopped in her tracks, looking up in surprise, she asked, ”How did you know?”

”Did Chen Hao tell you? That fool, I told him not to say anything, and he still did.”

Lin Kerou was somewhat annoyed, she didn’t want her problems to worry her family.

She was also worried that Chen Hao’s parents’ love for wealth would upset her family, thus giving them a bad impression of Chen Hao.

Their relationship was already precarious, and if even her parents opposed it, the relationship would surely be unsustainable.

”Don’t say anything at home, I’ll handle my own affairs.” Lin Kerou said to Lin Feng, her tone serious yet with a tinge of pleading.

”Don’t worry, I won’t say a thing.”

Lin Feng turned back to look at his big sister.

Although she lacked talent in cultivation, aside from that, her appearance and character were such that Chen Hao was incredibly lucky to marry her, and yet his parents dared to disdain her just because they owned a small company with an annual income of only a few million, as if they were some big corporation?

If it weren’t for his big sister’s genuine affection and Chen Hao’s feelings for her, Lin Feng honestly wouldn’t want his big sister to marry into such a family.

”Big sister, don’t worry, trust your brother, give me half a year, and I will change our family’s life.”

”Don’t let yourself suffer.”

”In half a year, or even less, I will make Chen Hao’s family unable to reach our level.”

Lin Kerou looked at Lin Feng’s determined gaze and words, her lips curved upward, her face showing a warm smile, feeling somewhat touched, she nodded and smiled, saying, ”Alright, let them be unattainable when the time comes.”

”Big sister, cheer up, believe in your brother’s abilities.”

Lin Feng knew his big sister didn’t really take his words to heart, but he didn’t explain further.

”How about a little rest before we continue?”

Midway through, noticing his big sister slowing her pace, Lin Feng asked.

For Lin Feng, with his Body Cultivator Seventh Rank strength, climbing stairs was just light endurance training.

But for his big sister, it wasn’t easy.

”No need, the more you rest, the more tired you get!”

When they finally reached the 46th floor, Lin Feng had no issue, but Lin Kerou was sweating all over, her legs felt numb, and her breathing was rapid.

Although spiritual power has revived, making ordinary physical abilities much stronger than before the Great Catastrophe, climbing 46 flights of stairs is still a challenging task, so generally speaking, once home, the family rarely goes downstairs.

Lin Feng took out the key and unlocked the door.

In front of them appeared a small apartment of less than 30 square meters, but it was forcibly divided into two bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom.

The location and layout of this place weren’t good, the room was perpetually dark, even on sunny days you had to turn on the lights, there were no decorations, saying it was bare would be an exaggeration, but aside from a fridge and a TV, there was hardly anything of value in the house.

”You’re back.”

Hearing a sound, footsteps emerged from the kitchen.

”Get ready, time to eat.”

A middle-aged woman wearing a floral apron walked out of the kitchen.

She had neck-length hair that wasn’t too short or long; her skin was very fair with some light brown spots, giving her a refined yet fragile appearance. This was Lin Feng’s mother, Lin Fang.

Lin Feng resembled his mother sevenfold, inheriting mainly from her genes. Anyone could tell at a glance that they were mother and son when they stood side by side.

Lin Fang first glanced at Lin Kerou, who discreetly shook her head. Lin Fang’s expression remained unchanged as she turned back into the kitchen.

Seeing his mother, Lin Feng’s expression froze.

In his previous life, when Jiang City was breached by demon beasts, he wasn’t at home, so he didn’t know whether his family had met a tragic fate, but even he couldn’t guarantee survival, let alone his family who couldn’t even bind a chicken.

”Mom, what meat are you cooking? It smells great.”

Lin Feng asked with a smile, his voice slightly trembling.

”Today it’s stir-fried green peppers with tusked pig, of course, it smells good.” Mom Lin’s voice came from the kitchen.
