Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 7: Chapter 6: Enchanting Butterfly

When Lin Feng found Gao Hai, the latter was refining a Demon Spirit, and his body was undergoing a transformation.

Lin Feng was guarding by his side to prevent anyone from accidentally interfering.

Gao Hai trembled all over, his chubby face turning bright red, veins popping up, and he let out painful howls, his whole body shaking slightly like waves.

He saw Lin Feng, but was in such pain that he couldn’t speak.

Lin Feng’s heart trembled slightly; that gaze was so familiar.

”Ah...”

With the last howl, the once jovial and chubby Gao Hai now had eyes that grew round and big, a swollen nose, and two curved and sharp horns growing from the sides of his full forehead. The jet-black horns were like two blades, his limbs became sturdy, his skin turned dark red, sleek with a shine. Due to the Demon Possession, his overly fat body became somewhat more robust, though still without visible muscle contours.

”Brother Feng, I’ve refined the Strong Demon Bull, I’ve finally succeeded!”

Gao Hai shouted excitedly, his voice now sounding a bit rough due to the Demon Possession.

For Gao Hai, becoming a Demon Spirit Master was already an achievement, even if the Strong Demon Bull’s grade wasn’t high, as a Second Grade Demon Spirit, it was a low-level spirit, incapable of adding attribute damage.

”Yes, you’ve finally become a Demon Spirit Master!” Lin Feng nodded with a smile.

Before the Great Catastrophe, getting into a prestigious university and finding a good job after graduation was every student’s dream, but now, becoming a Demon Spirit Master was every young person’s dream.

Lin Feng shared that dream, not just Gao Hai.

Since they were little, they fantasized about growing up quickly, participating in Awakening Day at sixteen, refining their own Demon Spirit, becoming true powerhouses, and changing their family’s living conditions.

The two of them often discussed what Demon Spirit to refine, which Demon Spirit was the strongest, the coolest and most domineering, and which abilities best suited them.

Lin Feng clearly remembered that Gao Hai wanted to refine the Ninth Grade Mammoth Iron Elephant.

Gao Hai was fat, which naturally meant he had great power but slow attack speed. The Mammoth Iron Elephant, being a Gold Attribute Demon Spirit, was known for its high defense, high attack, and low speed, making it a very suitable spirit for Gao Hai.

As for Lin Feng, he initially wanted to fuse with the Ninth Grade Cyan Stinging Dragon Demon Spirit.

Compared to power, his speed and agility were more outstanding, with his future development leaning towards becoming a Gale Swordsman.

The Cyan Stinging Dragon, a Sub-Dragon Type Demon Spirit, possessed Dragon Race bloodline, not only granting flight capability but also control over lightning, making it a rare Thunder Attribute Demon Spirit.

During their discussion, they both aimed to refine a Ninth Grade Demon Spirit.

As for Demon Spirits on the Earth Chart, of course, they wanted those too, but they could only fantasize about them in dreams. Every year, ten thousand people from Jiang City participated in Awakening Day, but it was never guaranteed that anyone could refine an Earth Chart Demon Spirit; it was simply unrealistic.

In reality, even a Ninth Grade Demon Spirit was unrealistic, as they were one-in-a-million geniuses. They would be satisfied if they could refine a Seventh Grade, or even a Fifth Grade Demon Spirit.

”Brother Feng, how about you? What Demon Spirit did you refine?”

After the joy, Gao Hai noticed that Lin Feng hadn’t undergone Demonization and immediately asked.

”No, I couldn’t find a suitable one.”

Lin Feng shook his head; the situation was a bit complex at the moment.

If he had refined the Nightmare, it would have been simpler to just say so outright because in others’ eyes, this was merely a Fifth Grade Shadow Demon Spirit.

However, that Nightmare was only sealed by him, not refined, and the [Sealing Evil Seal] secret skill was extremely rare, likely unknown nationwide.

Lin Feng couldn’t explain the source of the secret skill, and using such a skill to seal a Fifth Grade Demon Spirit seemed excessive and illogical.

Even though he trusted Gao Hai greatly, the Nightmare was too precious, and the principle of guilt from possessing something so valuable was all too clear to him.

If Gao Hai accidentally mentioned it, it might bring about a disaster.

Although technically, once a Demon Spirit is refined, it belongs to the refiner and cannot be taken away.

But the Nightmare within Lin Feng at this moment was only sealed by a special secret skill, not refined.

Moreover, Lin Feng knew that the Soul-devouring Beast, which ranked third among Exotic Beasts, had the innate ability to absorb and fuse with other Demon Spirits, and some rare secret skills produced a similar effect.

Although the requirements for using such secret skills were high and the effects limited, unable to perfectly replicate the effects of a Demon Spirit, even a tenth of the Nightmare’s innate ability would drive people to madness and recklessness.

If exposed, while attracting a lot of attention and resources, it would inevitably provoke prying eyes, and Lin Feng, at this moment, had no means of self-preservation.

So this secret could only be buried deep within his heart.

Furthermore, he left a way out by simply saying he couldn’t find a suitable Demon Spirit, not that he couldn’t refine one at all.

”How could that be...”

Gao Hai said incredulously, his round eyes wide as copper bells. Lin Feng, after all, was at the Seventh Layer of Body Cultivation, stronger than his Sixth Layer.

Having been Lin Feng’s follower since childhood, Gao Hai believed that Lin Feng would definitely refine a higher-grade Demon Spirit than he did.

But soon, Gao Hai comforted Lin Feng, saying, ”It’s okay, with your talent, the school might prepare a better Demon Spirit for you.”

Just as Gao Hai was consoling Lin Feng, a discordant voice sounded, ”Today, among tens of thousands of Demon Spirits of various attributes, from First Grade to Ninth Grade, even those on the Earth Chart, not a single one was successfully refined. The Soul Sea must be pitifully weak.”

”With such qualifications, you still hope the school will prepare a Demon Spirit for you. Imagine saying that out loud.”
