A-List Actress: Paper Marriage but Pampering Billionaire

Chapter 1042: Chapter 1042: Sis, I’m Doing Fine!

Before long, Luo Yao’s emotions stabilized. Mu Yan released her and began to inquire about Mu Chen’s condition.

It was only by asking that Mu Yan realized Song Cheng’an had hidden something from her. This morning, Mu Chen had a cardiac arrest, something that had never happened before, indicating that he might not hold on much longer.

”Mu Yan, I’m really scared,” Luo Yao said, crying, ”What if he really leaves? What am I supposed to do?”

Before falling in love with Mu Chen, she had considered this situation, but back then, she consoled herself, believing Mu Chen would get better.

But now, everything she had hoped for hadn’t come true, and Mu Chen’s condition was getting worse.

”He won’t,” Mu Yan’s heart felt as if it were being twisted with a knife. She wanted to comfort Luo Yao, but she found that words were so weak and unconvincing.

Through the window, she looked at Mu Chen lying on the hospital bed, her heart aching terribly.

If Mu Chen hadn’t saved her back then, he wouldn’t have been bedridden for so many years.

He would have had a life like a normal person, completing his studies, getting married, and having children. Even if not a bright future, it would have been a long, happy life.

She slightly closed her eyes, her hands clenched tightly, but there are no ifs in this world.

Why do good people not live long, while bad people remain unpunished?

Why does heaven repeatedly take away the most important people in her life? Did she do something wrong?

Mu Chen woke up the next morning, and when he saw her, he smiled at her and comforted her, ”Sis, I’m fine, really. You didn’t have to rush back and risk delaying your work.”

His voice was hoarse, and every sentence seemed to exhaust him, making it very difficult.

Fine? This time he was clearly much weaker than when Mu Yan last saw him, reduced to skin and bones, his face ashen, like paper, making one feel heartbroken just looking at him.

Mu Yan held back her tears and said, ”Work wasn’t delayed; I finished filming my scenes yesterday.”

Upon hearing this, Mu Chen was relieved and smiled, ”Then I’ll be waiting for the movie premiere.”

When he said this, his expression was somewhat downcast, ”Sister has been in so many movies, but I’ve never been to a theater to watch one.”

At this moment, Mu Yan felt extremely heartbroken. When she started acting, his health was already in a poor state. How could she dare let him go to a theater, bumping into things?

She smiled slightly, ”It’s not hard; when the movie releases this time, I’ll take you to the premiere.”

”Alright, it’s a promise, Sis. You can’t lie to me,” Mu Chen said solemnly.

”Of course I won’t lie to you. If I do, I’m a puppy.”

”Hmm.” Mu Chen put his mind at ease, a weary look appearing on his face, eyelids drooping.

Just a few words and he was already tired.

Mu Yan dared not disturb his rest. Seeing him fall asleep, she left the ward with Luo Yao.

Closing the ward door, Mu Yan heard Luo Yao say, ”Mu Yan, I’m sorry. I was too focused on my own pain, forgetting that the one truly hurting is you. All these years, every time Mu Chen went into emergency, it must have been a torment for you. Without a shoulder to lean on, you’ve had to silently bear it all alone. You’ve had it so tough.”

Seeing her tears, Mu Yan raised her hand to wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes and said, ”There’s nothing to apologize for. Whether it’s you, or me, or Mu Chen, none of us has it easy, but until the last moment, we can’t give up.”

”Hmm.” Luo Yao sniffled and nodded.
