The Apocalypse of the Book: So What If I'm Just a Cannon Fodder? I Can Still Have Fun

47: Whether you’re human or ghost, come out here!A flock of sparrows violently crashed into the tall building next door.

Su Mianmian watched this scene in shock, she didn’t understand why they would do that.

”Mianmian, quickly pull the curtains shut.”

Shi Xu’s anxious voice suddenly rang out behind her. Su Mianmian didn’t have time to think too much; she stepped forward and yanked the curtains closed.

The next second, ”bang, bang, bang” crashing sounds erupted.

Su Mianmian found it hard to imagine how terrifying the scene would be if she were to open the curtains now.

”Mianmian, you weren’t scared, were you?”

”These are probably just newly mutated sparrows; they don’t have much strength.”

”Our glass is very strong, so nothing like what happened to the building next door should occur.”

Shi Xu walked to Su Mianmian’s side, patted her shoulder, and comforted her.

Su Mianmian hadn’t seen what happened to the building next door. Hearing Shi Xu say this, she quickly asked, ”Shi Xu, what happened to the building next door?”

Shi Xu originally didn’t want to say, but seeing her serious expression, he thought for a moment and then told her: ”The glass in the building next door was shattered. The sparrows flew inside, and the people who were alive in there probably met a tragic end.”

Su Mianmian: ”...”

So this was also one of the reasons Shi Xu had her pull the curtains.

He didn’t want her to see those bloody scenes.

”I understand.”

”These sparrows probably won’t come again.”

Su Mianmian said expressionlessly, listening to the increasingly faint crashing sounds.

These mutated sparrows were one of the most annoying enemies in the apocalypse. Su Mianmian had a terrible headache.

”No matter if they come again or not, we don’t need to be afraid.”

”I’m still very confident in our glass.”

Shi Xu said with a confident expression.

Seeing him like this, Su Mianmian smiled.

”Confidence is a good thing, but if they truly intend to break in, that kind of power is not something you can anticipate.”

”They are only in the early stages of mutation yet already display such immense power. Given time, they will become even more difficult to deal with.”

”Shi Xu, if you encountered these mutated sparrow flocks outside, what method would you use to deal with them?”

Su Mianmian looked at Shi Xu with a scrutinizing gaze. She was actually testing him to see if he could come up with a good solution.

Shi Xu understood. He thought for a moment, turned his head to glance at the closed curtains, and when he looked back at Su Mianmian, his eyes were full of confidence.

”Birds should be afraid of fire.”

”Water and ice, and water with electricity, are also ways to attack them.”

”What do you think?”

Shi Xu said with a confident expression.

Su Mianmian smiled. As expected of an apocalypse boss, his ideas were indeed good.

”Shi Xu, you are truly clever.”

”Keep it up.”

Su Mianmian reached out and patted Shi Xu’s shoulder, a smile on her face.

After she finished speaking, she turned and left.

Leaving Shi Xu, who was still smiling, silently shaking his head.

Who did Su Mianmian learn this from? Could it be from the old man?

Shi Xu smiled and stepped out to follow her.

When the two went outside, they found the others discussing whether roasted sparrows would be tasty.

Su Mianmian and Shi Xu exchanged glances, both unsure what to say.

”I suggest you don’t eat them. They are poisonous now.”

”Be careful not to turn from an ability user into a zombie.”

Su Mianmian calmly interrupted their heated discussion.

When they heard Su Mianmian say this, they all gave up the idea.

”We don’t lack meat to eat, so why are you thinking of eating sparrows?”

”Seriously ’criminal’!”

Su Mianmian looked at their disappointed expressions, and she couldn’t help but complain.

Shi Xu followed behind her, shaking his head helplessly.

None of these brothers were serious.

”Ah, we just wanted to try it!”

”We won’t dare again, never again.”

Xu Qing, as the leader among them, raised his hand to express his stance.

The others also chimed in with their agreement.

Shi Xu looked at them expressionlessly, and they all lowered their heads.

Seeing this, Su Mianmian pulled Shi Xu, ”Let’s go, let’s go outside and check the situation.”

After the two left, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

”Mianmian, were you just worried that they wouldn’t be able to relax if I was there?”

”You don’t need to worry about that anymore.”

”How could they not relax?”

Shi Xu, being pulled by Su Mianmian, said with amusement.

Su Mianmian stopped, turned her head to look at him, and shook her head, ”I just felt a very subtle fluctuation, I don’t know what it is, I want to go check it out.”

Seeing her serious expression, Shi Xu believed what she said.

The two walked upstairs. The sky was very dark, and Shi Xu had to use a flashlight for them to see the steps clearly.

The higher Su Mianmian walked, the stronger the sensation became. When she reached the forty-fifth floor, she stopped.

She pointed to the doorway on her right and said, ”It’s here.”

Seeing her solemn expression, Shi Xu wanted to kick the door open directly.

Su Mianmian stopped him with a surprised look, ”This door should be quite sturdy; it’s better not to use brute force.”

She was genuinely surprised that Shi Xu wanted to kick it open directly; she was startled when she saw him.

Shi Xu nodded, retracting his idea of kicking the door.

At this moment, a rustling sound came from the doorway. The sound had a slightly eerie quality.

Su Mianmian felt a little like laughing. Someone was actually using such a petty trick against her.

A faint smile played on the corner of her lips, ”Human or ghost, come out!”

Shi Xu looked around cautiously. He followed Su Mianmian’s gaze towards the doorway, but there was nothing there.

He was still wondering when the door opened.

It was pitch black inside the door; from the outside, nothing could be seen.

Su Mianmian pushed the door open, and a dog jumped out.

Shi Xu instinctively kicked it. The dog yelped, ”Woof!” and fell to the ground.

The person inside couldn’t stay put and immediately ran out.

”Why are you hurting my dog!”

”Didn’t I open the door for you?”

The man’s hair was messy; Su Mianmian couldn’t see his face clearly, but she felt in her heart that he was a very strange person.

This strangeness was complex; it was as if he could be an asset to them if utilized well, but if not, he would be a sharp blade aimed at them.

Su Mianmian’s eyes narrowed slightly. She somewhat wanted to break this deadlock.

Should she just deal with him directly?

Shi Xu felt the killing intent from Su Mianmian, and the knife in his hand was already raised.

The man petted the dog and turned to look at them. Realizing they wanted to kill him, he couldn’t help but shiver.

”I... I didn’t do anything, please don’t kill me!”

”My dog just wanted to protect me.”

The man pleaded for mercy.

He didn’t know why he was so unlucky as to encounter these two people who wanted his life at the slightest disagreement.

”You have a penetration ability, and you were just using your ability to observe us.”

”I’m right, aren’t I?”

Su Mianmian said coldly, her arms crossed.

The man didn’t expect her to know the name of his ability. He said, surprised, ”How do you know I have an ability? I only discovered it this morning. Do you know what’s happening outside?”

The man had an innocent expression, as if he truly didn’t know what was happening.

Seeing this, Su Mianmian’s smile became even more dangerous.

This man, full of lies, really wasn’t worth keeping.

”If you don’t tell the truth, I’ll kill you.”

”I hate liars the most.”

Su Mianmian looked at the man coldly and snorted.

Stared at by her like that, his hair stood on end involuntarily.

Now he didn’t dare to lie anymore and quickly told everything truthfully.

It turned out that he discovered them when he was using his ability, and then he had been observing them.

If his ability hadn’t had a slight problem midway, Su Mianmian wouldn’t have discovered him either.

Su Mianmian felt that such a person was truly dangerous.

His ability was rare, but... to kill or not to kill?
