The Apocalypse of the Book: So What If I'm Just a Cannon Fodder? I Can Still Have Fun

43: Welcome to the ApocalypseWhen Shi Xu came downstairs, he received everyone’s subtly curious gazes.

Su Mianmian’s gaze, in particular, was very obviously curious.

Shi Xu gave her a look that said, ”Reign it in.”

Seeing this, Su Mianmian quickly reined it in a bit.

She secretly glanced at the others and, finding that they hadn’t noticed her undisguised look, breathed a sigh of relief.

They had just agreed not to be so overt, and now Shi Xu had caught her.

She was incredibly embarrassed.

Luckily, the others hadn’t seen.

Shi Xu looked at her scratching her ears and cheeks, a particularly adorable sight, and the smile on his face became much more pronounced.

He walked step by step towards Su Mianmian; the others, seeing this, quickly made way for him.

”Why are you looking at me like that?”

”Did I change after awakening my ability?”

Shi Xu reached out and tidied a stray strand of hair by Su Mianmian’s ear, his tone carrying a hint of playfulness.

Su Mianmian felt her ear, which he had accidentally touched, flush slightly. She wanted to pull away, but too many people were watching. If she dared to move, she worried someone might think their relationship wasn’t good.

Suppressing the tickle, she casually turned her body and said, ”Yes, you’ve become even handsomer than before.”

As soon as Su Mianmian said this, Shi Xu hadn’t reacted yet, but the others burst out laughing.

”Right, right, my son really is getting handsomer and handsomer!”

”So what ability did you awaken, exactly?”

Mother Shi was really curious about what ability Shi Xu had awakened, and she asked with a curious expression.

Everyone else also looked at Shi Xu with curiosity. Even Su Mianmian, who had just been teased, couldn’t help but turn her head to look at Shi Xu.

Seeing them all looking at him like that, Shi Xu smiled helplessly and casually said, ”Space, mental, and lightning, I guess.”

Su Mianmian caught the keyword ”guess,” and she asked with a curious expression, ”Why ’guess’? Is there some other ability you haven’t discovered yet?”

She looked at Shi Xu with curiosity, hoping in her heart that he would both admit and deny it.

She hoped he would admit it because if he had another one, their team would become even stronger.

She hoped he would deny it because the book only mentioned these three abilities. If he had one more, then... then things would be a little different.

Su Mianmian was a little worried that this unknown development might make subsequent events more confusing.

”I haven’t discovered any yet, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to awaken more later.”

”What abilities do you all have?”

Shi Xu stroked her head, not sensing anything amiss with her.

The several people successively stated their abilities, and Shi Xu nodded upon hearing them.

Tonight, the apocalyptic rain would arrive.

When this rain ended, it would mean the arrival of the apocalypse.

Su Mianmian was quite worried about whether this rain would arrive as scheduled.

Time slowly passed. Everyone in the living room appeared calm on the surface but was anxious inside.

Su Mianmian looked at Su Jinxuan, who was taking every moment to undergo rehabilitation training, and her heart ached.

He could walk now, but not as well as before.

To achieve his previous mobility, or even better, he had to train diligently.

Su Mianmian couldn’t persuade him, so she could only prepare more spirit spring water for him to replenish his energy during breaks.

Time flew by, and it was past nine in the evening.

Su Mianmian saw many meteors streaking across the sky, and she couldn’t help but exclaim, ”Look outside, so many meteors!”

Seeing this, Shi Xu frowned and said, ”This phenomenon will definitely cause many people to run out and watch.”

Su Mianmian didn’t immediately understand why he said that, but once it clicked, a hint of worry involuntarily appeared on her face.

”Life and death are fated; wealth and honor are in the heavens.”

”Let’s respect their fate!”

Xu Qing, seeing Su Mianmian’s worried expression, couldn’t help but advise her.

Su Mianmian understood this principle, but... ”Actually, I think we could use a virtual network to post a warning message online.”

”Whether they believe it or not is up to them.”

”Humans are social animals; too many people turning into zombies is not good for us at all.”

”What we need to do is, within our capabilities, unite humanity to fight against the zombies together.”

Su Jinxuan had been a soldier, and he didn’t want to see so many people he had once protected turn into those terrifying, mindless zombies.

Shi Xu thought the same way as him. He glanced at Su Mianmian, as if asking for her opinion.

Su Mianmian nodded and said, ”As long as it doesn’t expose our identities or endanger our safety, then go ahead and do what you want!”

She thought for a moment and reminded them, ”I know you’ve been soldiers, but after the apocalypse, the most dangerous thing is human nature. You can help within your means, but don’t be too saintly.”

Su Mianmian didn’t want them to gather a large group of people with ulterior motives before they even reached H City to establish a base.

Even though she hadn’t personally experienced the human nature in the apocalypse, she could glimpse it from the book.

Mother Shi heard what Su Mianmian said and fully agreed.

”Don’t think we’re cruel, or that we lack compassion.”

”The apocalypse is like this: first protect yourself, then find ways to help others within your capabilities.”

”We can’t even protect ourselves, so how can we rush to protect others?”

”That’s not kindness; it’s foolishness.”

Mother Shi said with a serious expression.

Su Mianmian nodded seriously. Mother Shi was absolutely right, and she hoped these men understood this principle.

Helping others was fine, but if they were overflowing with a saintly heart, then that was just foolish.

”Mom, don’t worry!”

”We won’t be that foolish.”

Shi Xu finished speaking with a serious expression, and Su Jinxuan quickly echoed, ”That’s right, we won’t be that foolish. When the apocalypse arrives, we ourselves come first.”

”You’d better be telling the truth.”

”Go do what you want to do!”

”Remember what Mianmian just said.”

Mother Shi saw the serious expressions on their faces, shook her head, and said helplessly.

To be honest, she didn’t really want them to get involved in such matters, but what Su Jinxuan had just said did make sense. The apocalypse was a shared human problem, and zombies were their common enemy.

Save one if you can; in any case, it wasn’t something that would threaten them.

Su Jinxuan and Shi Xu heard this, took out their computers, and began typing.

Soon, a flood of popular science knowledge appeared online.

As well as the information that tonight’s rain contained a large amount of virus.

After posting, they immediately logged out.

It was very fast, done in five minutes.

Su Mianmian was surprised by their speed.

”Mianmian, don’t doubt the speed of us two.”

”Back when we were in the army, we were famous for our incredible speed.”

Su Jinxuan looked up and saw Su Mianmian’s shocked expression, teasing her.

Su Mianmian: ”...”

She gave him a speechless look, not understanding why he was so excited now.

Su Jinxuan laughed when he saw her like that.

The meteors outside were still numerous. Su Mianmian looked at them through the window with a solemn expression.

Around eleven o’clock at night, raindrops began to fall, one by one.

Su Mianmian knew that after this rain, the apocalypse would arrive.

Everyone else’s eyes were fixed on the rain outside, not relaxing for a moment.

”These raindrops are different from what we usually see.”

”They’re a little red.”

”Mianmian, come take a look.”

Su Jinxuan was by the window. When he noticed something was wrong, he turned and waved to Su Mianmian.

Su Mianmian walked over curiously, and only when she got closer did she realize that the rain really was a little red.

”These red ones should be the viruses.”

”I wonder if anyone believed the post you made.”

Su Mianmian shook her head, unable to believe whether ordinary people who got caught in this rain would become ability users or zombies tomorrow.

Seeing her say this, Su Jinxuan opened his phone and found that their post had already received many replies.

Some popular ones had already been deleted.

Looking at the replies, most people didn’t believe it, with only a small portion believing.

Su Jinxuan shook his head, his heart completely calm.

Posting had already eased his conscience; whether people believed it or not was not his concern.

Su Mianmian saw the rain stop, and she turned to everyone with a smile, saying, ”Welcome to the apocalypse!”
