The Apocalypse of the Book: So What If I'm Just a Cannon Fodder? I Can Still Have Fun

20: Task allocationNo one answered Mother Shi’s words, and gradually, she also realized what was happening.

She looked at Su Mianmian and Shi Xu with curiosity, disbelief in her voice: ”No, you’re believing the apocalypse will come just based on a dream?”

Mother Shi’s expression was a little shocked, as if she hadn’t expected her son to be so casual.

She remembered he wasn’t like this before, right?

What could a dream represent?

”Mom, of course, it’s not just because of a dream.” Shi Xu gave his mother a helpless look, then turned his head to Su Mianmian and said, ”Mianmian, show your space to Mom and Grandpa Shi.”

Su Mianmian nodded. She walked to the desk, and the moment her hand touched the table, she put the table into her space.

To everyone else, it looked like the table had vanished into thin air.

”Is this really not a magic trick?” Father Shi was usually calm, but seeing this, he couldn’t help but be astonished.

Such an incredible thing, was he really not seeing things?

Father Shi raised his hand and rubbed his eyes, as if confirming something.

Grandpa Shi’s expression was serious. Unlike Father Shi, he didn’t repeatedly confirm anything. The moment he saw Su Mianmian take the table away, he confirmed one thing.

”Mianmian, is this space that bracelet?” Grandpa Shi said with certainty.

Su Mianmian hadn’t expected Grandpa Shi to know. A curious look appeared on her face.

She looked at him curiously and asked, ”Grandpa Shi, do you know something?”

Perhaps there were some doubts only he could answer.

Shi Xu, Father Shi, and Mother Shi also looked at Grandpa Shi with curiosity. They all wanted to know if he knew something.

”I heard it from the elders in the family. Legend has it that a long time ago, our ancestors had a bracelet space. It was because of it that our family didn’t go extinct during a period of persecution and escape.”

”After the family went into hiding and gained freedom, they treated the bracelet as a family heirloom, passing it down through generations, waiting for the fated person to reopen it.”

”And the bracelet is only passed to the daughter-in-law, not the son.”

Grandpa Shi stroked his beard, recalling as he spoke.

Su Mianmian hadn’t expected such a story. It seemed the bracelet space would only reactivate when the Shi Family encountered danger.

Then why was Li Qingqing able to activate it in the novel?

Could it be a bug?

Su Mianmian was a little confused.

Mother Shi turned her head and saw Su Mianmian deep in thought. She smiled and sighed, ”It seems the bracelet has a strong connection with Mianmian!”

Shi Xu nodded. Isn’t it true?

If there wasn’t a connection, she probably wouldn’t have been able to activate it.

”Regardless of how the space came to be, our top priority now should be to prepare early.”

”In the early stages of the apocalypse, many natural disasters—earthquakes, floods, extreme cold, extreme heat—are just minor issues.”

”The most important thing is that the oxygen we breathe contains many viruses.”

”Breathing in too much of this virus can easily turn one into a zombie.”

Su Mianmian thought of the novel’s description, where ordinary people in the base would occasionally turn into zombies.

These must have been due to absorbing too much virus from the air, a quantitative change leading to a qualitative one.

She felt that building an air-purifying house was urgent.

Shi Xu looked down at Su Mianmian’s serious expression, and he couldn’t help but frown.

”Mianmian, don’t worry too much. No matter what, I won’t let anything happen to you.”

”There’s a technology abroad that can purify the air. I think we can make use of it.”

”It’s just that this technology isn’t very mature yet.”

Shi Xu stroked his chin, thinking it was at least better than nothing.

At worst, he would have someone improve it.

”How should we choose the location for the early stages?”

”It must be difficult to choose a place that can withstand so many natural disasters.”

Father Shi looked troubled.

If there was only one natural disaster, it would be fine, but if all of them were to occur, then nowhere would be safe.

”Dad, these natural disasters don’t all come at once; they will come consecutively.”

”So we might have to change residences frequently in the early stages.”

What Su Mianmian was most worried about was whether their prepared residences would be occupied if they weren’t living there.

After the apocalypse, many people would be looking for safe places to live. She was a little worried that their prepared residences would be taken over.

It’s a bit troublesome.

Su Mianmian shook her head, feeling a little troubled.

”Until what month can we live in our current house?” Shi Xu asked thoughtfully.

Su Mianmian answered, ”October.”

Shi Xu nodded upon hearing this.

”For floods, we need to choose houses on high ground. For earthquakes, we need to choose flat ground. The others don’t seem to be too much of a concern.”

”Right?”

Shi Xu looked at Su Mianmian seriously and asked.

Su Mianmian wanted to nod, but unfortunately, Shi Xu didn’t know that the snow during extreme cold could be several stories high.

When she read the novel, it even mentioned that the northernmost areas were completely submerged by snow.

Fortunately, that was abroad.

She explained these things.

”So, for extreme cold and floods, we need to live in high-rise buildings.”

”It seems we don’t need too many houses.”

”I’ll handle this matter.”

Shi Xu said thoughtfully after listening to Su Mianmian.

Su Mianmian hadn’t expected him to take on this task directly. She was a little worried if he could handle it well.

Shi Xu seemed to have understood Su Mianmian’s thoughts and said with a chuckle, ”Don’t you trust me?”

Before Su Mianmian could speak, the others started laughing.

They all teased her.

Upon hearing this, Su Mianmian secretly glared at Shi Xu.

Couldn’t he just see through it without saying anything?

Shi Xu was glared at by Su Mianmian with such a lack of deterrence that he felt as if he had been electrocuted, his whole body tingling.

He raised his hand and rubbed Su Mianmian’s little head, comforting her.

They didn’t joke around for too long. Everyone quickly started assigning tasks.

Grandpa Shi would liquidate assets to provide them with funds.

Father Shi would prepare weapons and outdoor supplies.

Mother Shi would prepare medicines and equipment.

Shi Xu and Su Mianmian would prepare necessities for food, clothing, housing, and transportation.

The plan was for two months. After two months, if the apocalypse hadn’t arrived early, they would check for omissions and make up for them.

Su Mianmian felt that things were indeed easier with more people.

After everything was arranged, Su Mianmian took out the spirit spring water to show them.

”This spirit spring water is very good for the body. Drinking it daily can also increase the chance of awakening abilities.”

”I’ll find a place to put a large barrel for you.”

Su Mianmian said with a smile.

Grandpa Shi immediately thought this was a good thing.

He had originally thought his body would be a burden in the apocalypse, but now with this, he felt he could contribute again.

He enthusiastically led Su Mianmian away.

After the two left, Father Shi and Mother Shi surrounded Shi Xu.
