Raising My Children With My Personal Spatial Ability

Chapter 2249: Chapter 2249: Actually, a Clear Stream

The New Sovereign Emperor merely glanced at it without reaching out to take it; the Dark Token was not suitable for his hands.

As the Emperor, he could not foresee whether, years down the line, he might also become blinded by power as the Late Emperor once was, losing his most fundamental judgment.

Just like back then, it was obvious to all the brothers that the Former Sovereign Emperor was utterly ruthless, a man of dark and bloodthirsty disposition.

Yet the Late Emperor insisted that only a son as decisive and ruthless as the Former Sovereign Emperor could inherit his throne and lead the Jun Empire to greater heights.

And yet, in his youth, the Late Emperor had been wise.

He shook his head, no longer dwelling on those bygone days, choosing instead to focus on the matters at hand.

“Hand the Dark Token to Elder Shen, ask him to select someone trustworthy to hand it over to, and explain the purpose of the Dark Token to him.” He instructed.

The attendant was momentarily stunned upon hearing the order, staring at the Dark Token in his hand for quite some time.

Elder Shen? Did His Majesty really mean Elder Shen?

“Your Majesty, Elder Shen… his age is rather advanced.” Unable to hold back, he gently reminded.

He recalled that when His Majesty seized the throne, Elder Shen had already been gravely ill. It was only after His Majesty found a Soul Revival Pill in the Former Sovereign Emperor’s bedroom that Elder Shen didn’t immediately pass away.

Yet even with the Soul Revival Pill, the pharmacist had resolutely declared that Elder Shen would not live for more than three months.

The pill merely ensured Elder Shen would not waste away on a sickbed or suffer an agonizing death during his remaining days, that was all.

Could His Majesty truly be certain about entrusting the Dark Token to Elder Shen?

“I’ve given the command—just carry it out.”

The New Sovereign Emperor cast a cold glance at his subordinate and said in a stern voice.

He chose Elder Shen not to let him keep the Dark Token long-term but to have him select someone to entrust it to.

First, Elder Shen was his mentor. He thought, even if he became old and muddleheaded in the future, he wouldn’t harm Elder Shen, would he?

Besides, Elder Shen’s remaining lifespan was mere months. By the time he himself aged, how could he possibly harm Elder Shen?

Secondly, Elder Shen had dedicated his entire life to the Jun Empire, never marrying or having children. His family had all perished in the chaos of war.

Once Elder Shen passed away, even if he wished to locate the Dark Token’s whereabouts in the future, he would find himself unable to trace it.

It could be considered to have found a fitting resting place that way.

“The teacher knows how to handle it well.”

“This…”

The subordinate still hesitated, feeling that entrusting the Dark Token to Elder Shen was simply inappropriate.

“‘This’ what? You’re not thinking of taking the Dark Token for yourself, are you?” The New Sovereign Emperor shot him a sharp look and countered.

“I wouldn’t dare.”

The attendant quickly shook his head, beads of sweat forming as fear gripped him.

Taking possession himself? That would be asking for trouble! The Dark Token was undoubtedly a perilous burden. He might have the courage to hold it but lacked the means to guard it.

Even merely understanding its purpose seemed likely to seal his fate someday in a deadly cover-up.

Luckily, he was His Majesty’s trusted leader of the shadow guards; being silenced was slightly unlikely.

“I’ll immediately deliver the Dark Token to Elder Shen.” With that, he had taken leave of His Majesty and turned to depart.

…

“This New Sovereign Emperor is truly a breath of fresh air.”

Wei Na conveyed the New Sovereign Emperor’s recent actions to An Jiuyue.

An Jiuyue relayed them to Qian Jiyun, and the two started discussing the New Sovereign Emperor’s decision. She curled her lips slightly and praised him with a remark.
