High Martial Arts: Grinding for the Supreme Talent

Chapter 190: Chapter 190: Lin Qi’s Plan

”The freshman competition is divided into a team event and an individual event. The team event is also called the Disaster Beast Hunting Competition.”

”The venue is the War Base behind our academy, which was jointly established by our academy and the military.”

”Our academy doesn’t have enough staff, so we need the military’s help in many areas. Both sides hit it off immediately and began to cooperate.”

”The War Base is named Azure Sky Base, and the event grounds are in Fortress 06 of Azure Sky Base. That area has been converted into a Disaster Beast Garden that resembles a Ruins Town, and the annual team competition is held there.”

On the spacious asphalt road, countless electric trams and tour vehicles gathered, rolling mightily into the War Base.

The great sun rose high in the sky, blanketing the earth in sweltering heat.

It was a place of black, steel behemoths, filled with the stench of slaughter and blood. A thick, oppressive atmosphere washed over them.

Jiangtao’s voice echoed in everyone’s ears.

”We’re here!!”

Suddenly, someone shouted, and vast shadows began to appear before them.

They were massive steel walls. Between the walls was a huge plaza with a parking lot to the side.

Many people had already gathered in front of a colossal metal gate. It was a black steel gate, about twenty meters high and two hundred meters wide, covered in the stench of blood and countless claw marks.

From Lin Qi’s position, he could see a pair of massive claw marks over five meters long. He couldn’t imagine what level of Calamity Beast could have made them.

Nine screens were projected onto the metal gate, each marking a different area.

Everyone disembarked at the plaza entrance. A group of them grabbed their weapons. Lin Qi stood at the very front, with Guan Mountain, Wang Qiufeng, and the others standing to his left and right.

A powerful aura emanated from them as the group walked toward the area for the Azure Sky Sixth Institute.

At this moment, the other students from the Azure Sky Sixth Institute saw them coming and parted to form a path, letting Lin Qi walk through.

”Brother Qi!” they all greeted.

”Student Lin Qi!” Standing at the very front was the curvaceous Teacher Luu Wei. Today, she was also wearing a form-fitting blue combat suit.

She greeted Lin Qi enthusiastically.

Lin Qi scanned his surroundings. The students of the various academies were arranged just as they had been on the first day of school, with their Deans standing at the front.

He saw Duan Chuchu not far away, dressed in a red and white combat suit that perfectly showcased her shapely figure. She held a sharp Clear Sword that faintly glowed with a golden light.

Over in the Ninth Institute’s area, the fine-featured Ao Feng wore a silver-white combat suit and brandished a silver Tang Cross Saber.

As for Huo Wanyang, the undisputed number one in their year, he was over two meters tall and wore a red combat suit. A red Great Halberd, gleaming with a sharp metallic luster, was slung over his shoulder.

He exuded a ferocious and powerful aura, much like a Level 8 Calamity Beast, the Earth-Split Dragon.

Besides them, there was also Li Lei, who brandished a War Axe, and the twin sisters from the Third Institute, dressed in red and blue.

A powerful, invisible aura already filled the air of the War Base.

Jiangtao, dressed in a white combat suit, leaned in. ”Brother Qi, we’ve discussed it. We’ll stick to the plan.”

”I’ve checked the records from previous years. The Disaster Beast Hunting Competition is said to last three days, but it’s actually a little over two. It ends at 5 PM on the 12th.”

”Also, in past years, once the team competition’s point distribution has more or less decided the winners, many people choose to withdraw early.”

”We predict that once Huo Wanyang, Ao Feng, and the others build a huge lead over the other academies, they’ll most likely withdraw midway to prepare for the individual competition.”

”This is our only chance.”

Lin Qi nodded. ’This is just what I was thinking.’

The Azure Sky First Institute, Ninth Institute, and Second Institute were all incredibly strong. The top twenty students from their Sixth Institute weren’t weak either.

However, there was a noticeable gap in the overall quality of their top one hundred.

If they went head-to-head with the First and Ninth Institutes, even his limitless stamina wouldn’t be enough to make up for the overall disparity.

’Acknowledge the objective differences, then find a way to solve the problem.’

Therefore, if the Sixth Institute wanted to achieve a higher academy ranking, they had to take a risk.

”Alright. Everyone conserve your stamina for the first two days and try to maintain a mid-tier ranking. On the third day, after Huo Wanyang and the others withdraw, we’ll make our move.”

Lin Qi instructed them with a serious tone.

”Understood!”

Jiangtao nodded as well. He turned and nodded to Guan Mountain and the twenty-odd other students, and a shared glance told them they all understood the situation.

”Attention, students!”

Just then, a projection of the tall, bearded Vice-Principal Xu Wenji appeared before everyone.

”Welcome, everyone, to the team event of the freshman competition—the Disaster Beast Hunting Competition!”

”You’ve all participated in the Practical Training Camp, so I don’t need to go over the rules in detail.”

”Our Disaster Beast Hunting Competition will begin today at 10 AM and continue for two days, ending at 5 PM on the 12th.”

”During this period, you are not allowed to consume Healing Potions. You may only use the supplies and first-aid kits found in the safe houses.”

”Everyone will be issued a standard smart-wristband, just like in the Practical Training Camp.”

”There is also a difference in the rankings. By pressing the yellow button, you can see the point rankings for the nine freshman academies, as well as the individual point rankings within your own academy.”

Everyone nodded. This was all covered in the competition rules their teachers had distributed.

”One last thing, and it’s the most crucial point.”

”For every Calamity Beast you kill in the Disaster Beast Hunting Competition, you will receive a cash reward.”

”Kill a First-Level Calamity Beast for one point and a reward of 1,000 Xia Country Coins!”

”Kill a Second-Level Calamity Beast for 10 points and a reward of 10,000 Xia Country Coins!”

”Kill a Third-Level Calamity Beast for 100 points and a reward of 50,000 Xia Country Coins!”

”If you want to earn more money, then go out there and hunt Calamity Beasts to your heart’s content!!” Xu Wenji announced loudly.

BOOM!!

As soon as he said this, everyone’s enthusiasm was instantly ignited.

Rankings were nothing compared to the direct incentive of cash. The more Calamity Beasts you killed, the more money you’d make.

Lin Qi’s eyes lit up as well. Although he already knew about this rule, hearing it from the vice-principal still made his blood boil with excitement.

He was short on cash—he needed money badly.

And this Disaster Beast Hunting Competition was his chance to make a fortune.

’Every extra kill means more money.’

While everyone was eagerly rubbing their hands together in anticipation, staff members began distributing the smart-wristbands.

A dense swarm of black metal spheres also began to rise into the sky, ready to be released at any moment.

Time slowly ticked by, and before they knew it, it was 9:59.

Xu Wenji raised his right hand high and announced:

”I now declare the Disaster Beast Hunting Competition officially open!!”

RUMBLE!!

The words had barely left his lips when the metal gate let out a thunderous rumble and slowly swung open to both sides.

It revealed a vast, wild forest dotted with crumbling ruins.

”Charge!!”

With a chorus of shouts, the top students of each institute led the charge, bursting from the crowd like arrows loosed from a bow and disappearing into the jungle.

Nine thousand students charged forward at once, surging into the deep mountains like an unstoppable tide.

Lin Qi also transformed into a black bolt of lightning and shot into the deep mountains.

The venue for this Disaster Beast Hunting Competition was called the Disaster Beast Garden. Its area was several times larger than Celestial Sea City’s Ruins Town, and for this event, it was divided into two zones.

Zone 1 primarily contained Level 1 and Level 2 Calamity Beasts.

Zone 2 was a mixed zone where Third-Level Calamity Beasts also appeared frequently.
