High Martial Arts: Grinding for the Supreme Talent

Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Second Killing Technique—Wave-Swirl Strike

Lin Qi’s body trembled uncontrollably. He could feel that the Spear Technique in his hands had undergone a distinct change.

He paused for a second and took a deep breath. His great tendons and muscles, as if forged from steel, exerted force simultaneously, causing his Power to erupt.

He began to consciously guide the Power coursing through his body.

RUSH!!

Streams of Power within his body were like a raging river. He controlled the majority of it, guiding it like a Spiritual Snake from his spine, through his arms, and finally pouring it into the Long Spear.

As the Flow of Power circulated, Lin Qi pivoted on his waist, rapidly spinning his body and brandishing the large spear as he moved.

SWISH!! SWISH!!

As the spear moved faster and faster, Power continuously gathered and coiled around its tip, rubbing against and compressing the surrounding air, forming a vortex of airflow.

At first, the vortex was like a gentle breeze, but it gradually intensified into something like a surging wave, letting out a roar as it cut through the air.

The next moment, when his momentum reached its peak, the Power converged at the spear’s tip. With a sudden exertion from Lin Qi’s arm, he swung the spear’s shaft like a club in a wide arc, and the condensed Mountain-Splitting Power erupted violently.

It was released like a swarm of small snakes, lashing out and Tearing through the surrounding air, creating a howling gale.

HISS~ HISS~

In that instant, Lin Qi unleashed his own strength and the condensed Power, seemingly driving away all the air around him.

Lin Qi spun again, swinging the spear continuously. It was like surging waves rolling out, one after another, as his immense Power was constantly released.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Lin Qi could feel the circulation of his Power surpassing the ordinary, growing faster and more immense.

The solidified Power continuously gathered at the spear tip, erupting outwards.

”Li Qing, you go test it out!”

Mu Hong tossed a Long Spear to him, telling him to catch it and attack Lin Qi.

WHOOSH!!

Li Qing froze for a moment before reacting. He gripped the Long Spear, his figure agile, and leaped up, bringing the spear down on Lin Qi in a Heavy Slash with the force of a falling mountain.

The aura around him changed in an instant. His scholarly air vanished, replaced by an eruption of tyrannical presence.

He didn’t use any Power for fear of hurting Lin Qi, using only the most Ordinary Basic Spear Skill. However, the force behind the descending Long Spear was by no means weak.

”Junior Brother, let me have a go with you!”

”Bring it on!”

Seeing this, Lin Qi’s eyes lit up. He once again spun his Long Spear, the Power circulating wildly, growing smoother and more condensed. It gathered at the tip before he executed a sudden upward thrust.

WHOOSH!!

BANG!!

The two spear moves collided violently in the middle of the Martial Arts Room. The moment the spear tips clashed, Lin Qi unleashed his Mountain-Splitting Power.

An intense vortex of air was released in an instant, lashing out with the spiraling Power.

As the two Long Spears collided, the air seemed to explode with a loud crack.

Li Qing’s expression changed slightly. He felt a terrifying Power travel up the Long Spear into his arm, as if Tearing at his muscles.

Fortunately, his Qi and Blood Value was high, so he wasn’t injured, merely feeling a slight numbness.

THUD! THUD!

He couldn’t stop himself from staggering back several steps.

His expression changed again as he stared wide-eyed at Lin Qi, who was also stumbling backward.

”Junior Brother, did you really master the second Killing Technique?”

THUD! THUD!

Across from him, Lin Qi also retreated several steps before steadying himself, his arms numb.

He looked at Li Qing and exhaled a turbid breath. Having unleashed the Killing Technique, he felt exceptionally satisfied.

[You have had a sudden epiphany and mastered the second Killing Technique of the Mountain Splitting Spear Technique—Wave-Swirl Strike. Your Spear Technique Realm has greatly improved. Spear Technique +5%]

[Spear Technique: Tier Two 73% → Tier Two 78%]

...

A smile appeared on Lin Qi’s lips as he saw the information pop up on the panel.

’I can’t believe I actually mastered the second Killing Technique. My Spear Technique Realm has improved by a huge margin, too.’

’Of course, the most crucial part is mastering the Wave-Swirl Strike. My combat power has risen by another huge chunk.’

”Holy crap!”

Li Qing looked at Wang Zixuan and Mu Hong, his expression one of shock.

”Junior Brother actually mastered it just now?!”

At this, Wang Zixuan couldn’t help but blink rapidly, saying in astonishment:

”It seems we were all wrong. Not a week, not three days, not even two. He did it right now.”

Mu Hong also let out a breath, unable to calm his excitement, and a smile spread across his face.

”Lin Qi, you’ve really given us a surprise!”

Li Qing walked over excitedly and threw an arm around Lin Qi. ”Amazing! Is this the Talent of a Dean?”

”As expected of my Junior Brother. That Killing Technique of yours is truly domineering.”

”Any Martial Artist who hasn’t broken through to the Third Realm would have the muscles in their arm torn apart by a hit like that.”

”Your strength is really immense!” Li Qing exclaimed, while inwardly shocked. ’My junior brother is terrifyingly strong.’

’If I were his age, I’d be no match for him at all. There’s no comparison.’

’Even as the current Dean, if I were the same age as him, I still wouldn’t be his opponent. His future is absolutely immeasurable.’

After chatting for a while, Mu Hong’s expression turned serious and he said:

”Lin Qi, the new student competition is in four days. You need to be prepared.”

”The competition lasts for five days and is divided into a team event and an individual event.”

Lin Qi listened with curiosity. He had thought the new student competition was just a simple tournament.

”The team event is also known as the Calamity Beast Hunting Competition. Similar to your Practical Training Camp, a Space channel will be opened to release Calamity Beasts. Everyone will hunt them to earn Points.”

”In the end, the total Points of the top one hundred students from each institute will be tallied to determine the institute rankings.”

”After the hunting competition ends, the Cultivation Resources and the dormitories’ Source Energy Concentration for each institute will be determined by the rankings.”

”The individual event, on the other hand, is a pure contest of combat strength. You’ll fight in matched battles until a final champion emerges.”

”And Lin Qi, if you want to get a higher score in the hunting competition, you need to be prepared.”

Wang Zixuan spoke up, ”Lin Qi, in the past, the top students from many of the high-ranking institutes would hold back during the hunting competition to save their strength for the individual event.”

”If you can manage it well, you might be able to raise our institute’s ranking.”

”Of course, this kind of gamesmanship is usually only necessary when the overall strengths of the institutes are close.”

”If an institute is too weak, they might as well just give up.”

After listening, Lin Qi nodded. ”Thank you, Teacher, Senior Brother, and Senior Sister, for your guidance.”

This information was extremely helpful to him.

...

「Half an hour later.」

Lin Qi took his electric cart back to his villa and went straight to the Martial Arts Room.

He continuously replayed his epiphany about the second Killing Technique in his mind, summarizing his thoughts on the projected panel.

Only after finishing this did he begin to think about the new student competition in a few days.

He wasn’t worried about the individual event; he just needed to defeat one opponent after another.

But the team-based Calamity Beast hunt was different. It depended on the overall strength of the institute’s top one hundred students.

He was confident in the strength of the Sixth Institute, but only in the top dozen or so students. The lower-ranked ones still had a noticeable gap compared to the First, Ninth, and Second Institutes.

Just as Senior Sister Wang Zixuan had said, if he wanted to achieve a higher ranking, some gamesmanship would be required.

’Take it one step at a time.’

’All I can do now is increase my own strength. I must get a top-three ranking.’

Lin Qi clenched his fists. This new student competition would determine where his strength truly ranked.

He wanted the rewards from the team event, and he wanted the rewards from the individual event, too. Only children make choices.

Adults take it all.
